Looking for Crochet Motif Pattern

United States

I've looked through all my books, and online, but can't find "just " what I'm looking for. I am looking for a free crochet motif, that has a octagon center, then ends up being a square. Or in other words, a granny square with an octagon center. I'm wanting to use up my scraps for the octagon, and white for the rest that will make it square. I can never seem to find a beadspread that I like for very long in the stores, so I've decided to make my own of various colors with the same color border. Thank you for any suggestions. I know how to make an octagon, and a square, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to combine the two.

Have you checked both the lion brand pattern finder and the Bernat finder? or looked on Ravelry? These are all good places to get patterns. Other than that I don't know if I can help, I am still trying to make my squares come out square.

I dont recall seeing one like that but I am not real fond on doing squares either. You might want to try freepatterns , they have alot of free patterns.

I think the solution that you are looking for requires triangles. Lion Brand and the otehr yarn companies have a lot of information online for making blankets and items from odd shapes. You have to look at what you are doing similarly to forming a quilt. This way you can easily create your own pattern by filling in what shapes you need to give you the desired finish. Good luck!

Have you tried Crochet Pattern central? They have a directory for patterns and for instructions so if you can't find anything on the patterns page maybe you can find a way to combine the two things you do know how to make which is an octagon and a square. Also there crochet.about.com, and crochetnmore.com. I've talked with the lady from the latter link and she is very nice! She's helpful and her newsletters are marvelous! lol! I hope you can find what you are looking for! Ofcourse don't forget lionbrand.com, and ravelry.com.
