Well, any doll collector out there knows that it was Barbie. She looks great for her age right? Barbie arrived on the scene in 1959 and has been so many things since then. I am not sure of how many careers this lady has had but I know of several. The original doll sold for $3.00 and now some of them are ranging at $30 and up. The original Barbie wore a black and white swimsuit and the birthday anniversary doll is also wearing a black and white swimsuit but it is a different suit and Barbie does look differently now. Did you have a Barbie when you were younger? I had several of them and my kids have both had them.

I had several barbies growing up as well as the convertable and the jeep! I also remember having these pink plastic boxes that were portable closets! My grandmother made my barbie clothes and I had beautiful ball gowns made from left over material where she would make prom and dance dresses for my aunts and their friends. I even remember her making me a "flower girl" dress that was just like the one I wore in my Aunt Linda's wedding! It's amazing what you remember when someone brings up a memory isn't it?

Well, it does sound like you had a lot of fun with them. I remember my mom made sweaters and skirts one year for me. They were cheerleading sweaters for Barbie and I think I had more than one squad of them.LOL! Anyway, it is nice to have memories like that. I wonder what other toys would bring up a lot of memories.

I remember those. I think that I had one too. It is interesting to think that we stressed over things like that as a child and yet there are so many bigger issues for us now.

Do you remember the barbie heads on a stand that you could fix her hair and do her makeup? I know I had one when I was little because I remember being really irritated when my cousin cut her hair all off. But when I looked for one when my girls were little, I couldn't find one.

I have had quite a few barbies when I was a very young girl. I am now forty one and if I had know any better then I would have saved them. Wow. They are worth a lot of money these days aren't they? I heard that Barbie had turned fifty recently. That is amazing the staying power of a doll like that. I also had the campers and vans and other gadgets which came with the Barbies of yesteryear. I was a child during the 1970's and Christmas was wonderful waking up to my Barbie dolls!

I was a child before Barbie. What we had were ballerina or fashion dolls, the predecessor to Barbie. They sat on ones bed and they were fancy gowns or you could dress them in ballerina costumes and make them do poses. If you had money, you could get a collection and some of my friends whose parents had more money then mine, had them not only on their beds, but on the window sills and dresser. I got two larger versions of the Fashion dolls for my birthday a few years ago. They are sometimes offered for sale around Christmas and are just to look at. .

I was in Safeway a few years ago around Christmas, I saw these beautiful fashion dolls, taller then what I have. They were about a little over half my size and I am just under 5 ft 4 inches. They had them in styles from the 16th to 19th century and there was this beautiful one all in red, with a beautiful dress. And I kept hinting that I wanted that for Christmas, but my husband just gave me a kitchen appliance as usual.

I think that your husband should be grounded for giving you a kitchen appliance for Christmas. My husband doesn't do that unless it is something that I have asked for. I usually end up telling him to get me something like that as I like to have all the latest gadgets.

Those are cool dolls. I have a couple of those that my mom had. I love dolls and wish that I had the money and room to buy more of them.

I was going to celebrate barbie's 50th by putting all my collectable barbies all over the house. Barbie got me through my childhood. My girls had them and all the accessories. I enjoy the shoes most of all. I wish I will look that good at 50! lol!!

That would be a good idea. I have several collectible Barbies. The last ones that I purchased where the set of Lucy and Ethel working in the candy factory. I love it!! Now, I want the anniversary birthday edition one. I wish we could all look that good at 50.

I still love them too. I like paper dolls too and was wondering the other day what has happened to the ones that I had a few years ago. I would like to have them again. My youngest daughter is interested in paper dolls too.
