I get a pop up occasionally that says that my "virtual memory" is low. It says programs may run slow while it is adjusted. What does this mean? Is there anything that I can do to fix this on my own, or should I just let my system repair or adjust it itself?

virtual memory is more then just using disk space to extend physical memory(RAM) size. It means when the RAM on your system is full. it extend it to use space on your hard drive. it automatically adjust the same as per your requirement. but you can too adjust it urself and for that you can use help and support of your windows and search for virtual memory. Hi sissy67! virtual memory is when hard disk space is used like physical memmory. just type that phrase into XP help and support - it'll give you a rough idea of what it is and where it can be adjusted from. If you are unsure read up on Wiki, but the system should manage itself ok.hope that helps a little

It seems its time to upgrade your system RAM. The application that you are trying to run consume lot of memory from your system. To overcome this operating system uses some part of the hard drive and treat is as a RAM. This is just a temporary arrangement the OS is making to run the applications. This use of hard disk space getting used like RAM is called as virtual memory.

That means the hard disk memory is full, and the program can not save a variable data to a memory. This can cause your computer to stop working, when the program is trying to write into the memory is full. Do not let your hard disk is full because of the excessive use of memory, run programs with the appropriate memory capacity.

I checked the system. I found this info: Mem (ram) 512mb sum of hard disk C:D: used - 37.68gb free - 74.09gb I did a disk cleanup, spybot, virus scan, updates, defragment, cleared cookies, cleared cache and history, dumped the recycling bin, cleared start up..... so far, I havent seen another pop up for virtual memory....but, it dont happen alot...just on occasion.

What is the minimum and maximum numbers for your Virtual Memory? For minimum i think that with just 200mb and for maximum is 4gb, because Windows XP and Vista still uses NTFS format (32bit). For full system, your Windows recommended 1gb to load all driver. If you have RAM 512mb, you need minimum 512mb for Virtual Memory. Virtual Memory slower than the RAM on your computer, because Virtual Memory is a kind of RAM made from a hard drive.

It means your system need more memory RAM. Virtually memory is actually your hard disk and whenever RAM becomes full, all new data is then stored on hard disk instead, which also slows down the running of the program. If you havent changed any settings in the Windows control panel recently, it is clear you need more RAM.

If you have money you can purchase a one or two GB ram.Yes you can solve that problem. You need to uninstall unwanted programs from your computer. You also need to disable unwanted programs that startup in your computer. You can also increase the size of virtual memory but i think a computer engineer should do it..

You don't need any more RAM, yes it would make the computer start up fasted, but you can simply take everything of start up, on, it would make proccessing a little bit faster and maybe the internet would work alittle faster, but you can just up the virtual memory to 4096, which is basiclly 4 GB, you have 74 GB of space, there is no problem in doing that, if you want a fast working computer for gaming and mega-multi tasking, you would have to buy a new one, im sure, but i you don't need it for that, just PM me and i will tell you how to make you computer run lightspeen with just a few simple tweaks in the registry :)
