Is my home in a flood zone?

We have lived in our home for about 9 years. We have never needed flood insureance. We recently put on a large addition to the back of our house, and were never advised we are part of a flood plain. Although there is a part of our neighborhood that IS considered a flood plain. We just received notice from our mortgage company that we mus obtain flood insureance within the next 30 days. How can we determine if our specific home IS in a flood plain?

The list is actually revised every so often to anticipate dangers. There are areas in my city with the same situation. They were flood proof before but now they could get floods. I think it's even unfair that some car insurance no longer accepts "Acts of God" coverage to those under the flood zone (when they weren't included in the list before). Have a great MylOt experience ahead!

Well maybe you can ask your insurer where he got the information that your land in in a flood prone area. I think they do have a reliable source why they decided to have your land insured with it.

That happened here recently. The city government declared a good portion of the city a flood zone a few years ago and never notified anyone.
