If you still think the US has been safe in the years following 9/11, read this. According to a report by the Government Accountability Office, at least four times ivestigators managed to get passports using fake documents. -One investigator used the Social Security number of a man who died in 1965, a fake New York birth certificate and a fake Florida driver's license to receive a passport. Then he used a 5-year-old boy's information to get a passport as a 53 year old man. Another investigator used fake documents to get an ID card, which he then used to apply for a passport. A fourth investigator used a fake New York birth certificate and a fake West Virginia driver's license to get a passport. http://home.peoplepc.com/psp/newsstory.asp?cat=TopStories&id=20090313/49b9e850_3421_13345200903131580662408 I'm so glad Bush kept us safe, aren't you?

Well it certainly sucks that there are still so many incompetents that let this happen. I remember a year after the 9-11 attacks Muhammad Atta was officially approved for a student visa. At least now I have a heads up in case I ever need a passport to flee the country. "I'm so glad Bush kept us safe, aren't you?" I'm VERY glad. Tell me, how many times did these guys test out their ability to get box cutters onto commercial flights? What was their success rate at that? How about sneaking explosives onto a plane through their shoes? Did they have any luck pulling that one off?

At the time the 9/11 terrorists got box cutters on the plane anyone could, it was not a prohibited item. They did not have to sneak them on board. Also while the Israeli airline had reinforced cockpit doors , American carriers did no such thing and resisted having a locked impenetrable pilot cockpit. This neglect led directly to the deaths of thousand so people as the terrorist just walked into the cockpit and took over.

Well this really takes the cake as far as I am concerned. Because I was due to fly from the UK to the USA right after 9/11 and didn't it means that when I visit my husband in the UK I now buy my round trip ticket here. I had a round trip ticket when I came home last May. My husband followed me in June and we were married in the USA on June 28th. I came back to the UK on Nov 7th on my old passport to save me having to pay AA a bundle of money. I filled out all the forms and sent my passport in to the US Embassy in London to change my name on it. I sent a certified copy of my marriage license and two new passport photographs on Feb 24th. This past Thursday I got a letter which included the passport pictures - and a letter telling me that the copy of my marriage certificate was not suitable - they wanted the original and that the pictures were not the correct size - even hough they were the exact same size as he ones snt when my passport needed renewed last two years ago. I guess it depends who you are etc - because I sure followed what it said on the application and here I am - more expense and more waiting. The application said that a new passport would be received in approximately 15 working days - well mine is taking a lot longer than that. I sent everything back they skedfor by registered mail this morning. Lets see if I have my passport within the 15 days. That should be no later than April 3rd.

Fake documents are so easy to get. Using someone else birth certificate is the easiest way to get them. My sister used a friends birth certificate to get a fake ID when she was underage. Anyone can get a birth certificate and go and pretend it's them if the age is about right. OK using one to get into bars when your 19 is one thing. It's wrong, but not evil. But if it is so easy a person can use it for bad things too.

I have to echo Xfahctor...I hope no one buys into how the DHS is likely to use this an excuse for Real ID -- this is actually PROOF for how much we don't need Real ID...because Real ID would make that method *points to your discussion* EASIER. Safe? Pah! His administration, and likely he knew about it, has been proven to have knowingly tortured innocents. Their memos spoke like dictatos would speak. As far as I can tell, he knowingly endangered us...if only in matters of liberty, and not in other ways. UNFORTUNATELY, I'm not sure if Obama will have the wisdom not to follow his example to whatever degree is likely during his time in office. It sucks that we have to live through times of such uncertainty. Fun times, fun times.
