I haven't planted anything yet. But, I am in planting mode. I was just thinking today of all the stuff I want to plant. I really want some tomatoes and I checked and I still have tomato seeds left from before, so I was quite happy about that. And, it says that this month is the time to plant them in my area. I thought about growing some potatoes too. Though, this will be my first time planting potatoes. I have been wanting a rose bush, but haven't gotten one yet. My parents have dozens and keep mentioning they will give me one. I love roses, because besides the fact that they are pretty, they grow a couple times a year which is really nice. Since, most flowers just bloom once. I also love to make rose petal jam out of their petals and make tea out of the rose hips. It is so good for you, full of Vitamin C.

I don't mind at all. You can use fresh or dried rosehips. For anyone who doesn't know: The rosehips are the round/oval parts of the rose, left over when the petals fall. They are usually red or orange. They are sweetest after the first frost. Cut the rosehips in half. Remove the seeds and little hairs from the inside. Cut the hips into a few more pieces, add to a mug and pour hot water over. Let it steep for at least 10 minute. I like to use about 4 or more at a time. The rosehips can be froze or dried for longer storage. To dry follow the seed removal direction for tea, then dry in the sun or in a dehydrator. They are really good when you feel a cold coming on. They have more vitamin C than oranges. I hope you enjoy the tea!

Sorry, I forgot to say to discard the seeds and hairy part and just use the left over hips for the tea. Also, you might want to use a knife or something to remove the hairs and seeds, because the hairs can cause itching.

I keep wanting to plant, but it's still a little early here. It doesn't help that we're having a warm spell! I am getting things cleaned up and ready, though, so the second it's late enough in the year, I'll be ready, seed packet in hand!

Being in Canada, there is still snow on the ground and will be for a while yet, but I'm getting itchy fingers to start some seeds indoors so they'll be ready to put out the 1st week of June. I'm so anxious to see the first signs of the perenials peeking up out of the soil and I'm busy planning colors of the annuals. Last year the front yard was a riot of color and we got so many wonderful compliments. But it was so much work....and the garden went crazy. Way too much canning and freezing to do. So we'll have to cut back a little this year, I think.
