Major causes of road accidents?

Almost all day we can hear news about people who suffered accidents on the roads, streets, or interstate highways. Various reasons are said to be the causes of these accidents. What do you think are these reasons. How can we avoid being involved to such accidents.

The major cause for road accidents is the quest to earn more and more money.
Now a days people consider time as money and therefore become impatient, drive fast and disregard the rules. They have no little consideration for others on the roads.
If everyone follow the rules properly, and road accidents will come down by 95%

Being always in a hurry on the road is really life threatening. We tend to have the tendency really to be impatient, and do whatever it takes to race to our workplace specially when we are dire late. What simple things should we observe when driving on the road to prevent accidents besides avoiding impatience. Thanks for your response.

I agree with the other responses that point to driver distraction and driving too fast for the road conditions as major reasons for automobile accidents. I have had so many near misses by people who pulled out in front of me or changed lanes without looking. Fortunately, I live in an area where there is little traffic but, even here, there have been some terrible accidents.

I think there are various reasons, with distractions such as cellphone usage while driving, eating while driving, kids misbehaving in car. Also accidents do happen as a result of vehicle failures such as tire blowouts, etc. I think carelessness plays a big part such as DUI, underage drivers who are inexperienced in the rules of the road and vehicle safety/operation. I always watch all around me, scanning in front, behind, left and right of my vehicle, I am especially cautious around intersections.

In drivers ed, my teacher once told me that there are two major reasons car accidents happen. Either the driver is..
a) not paying enough attention
or
b) is driving too fast (above the speed limit).
And, thinking back, I have to agree with him. A lot of accidents are caused by people who are busy doing other things (on their phones, messing with the radios, putting makeup on, eating, and so on), and therefore aren't paying enough attention to the road. I think we can prevent accidents by following all traffic laws to the best of our ability & by putting our full attention on the road, rather than trying to multi-task.

There are many reasons why all of these happens such as the driver have drunk, not paying attention to what he is doing, using cellphone, thinking of his or her serious problems.That are just some reasons why they encountered road accidents. We can avoid road accidents if we will not do all the things that we know it could cause accidents.
