My kid is turning 4 years old and I will be sending her to nursery next year. she knows her alphabet, the shapes, colors, can count form one to ten. i was the one teaching her since she was only 2 years old. i am so pressured because her clasmates might know how to read. but she can recognize some words but she can't read a sentence. i am the one nervous for next year. i am a first time mom. i want her to be the brightest among the class but i never force her to study everyday. i just teach her when she is in the mood to study.

Is she mature enough to sit for long periods of time? Is she mature enough to work on her own after being give an assignment? Have the knowledge that you have taught her is not enough to go on to say she is ready to go to school. Most schools are very structured and the kids need to be ready for that structure. I wonder why your in such a hurry to send her to school. It used to be that a child had to be 5 by some time at the first of the school year to be allowed to go. I keep reading on here about mothers wanting to send their kids to school as young as 3. What is the hurry. I really want to understand.

I srarted schooling at the age five. But that was long ago. Kids now are being sent in school here at the age of 3. So I am worried because other kids at her age are already in their nursery. I don't know why I'm tensed or something. i can't really explain. The nursery here is only 2 hours and it involves a lot of playing. I want my kid to grow smart that is why I am so worried about sending her to school. But she is kinda excited about it coz I asked her if she wants to go to school next year and she said yes. She wants me to buy her a new bag and pencils. She can write her name already. The enrollment here is June so she wants me to start buying her new notebooks and stuff.

i went to school when i was 2+. and most children in india go to school when they are 2+. but some how i feel it a burden for kid to go to schol at this age. i feel children must go to school only when they are 4-5 years of age. this gives them ampe time to grow at home and also spares them from homeworks and routines. but if the child is shrap enough and extrovert then the chail can be sent to play school at an earlier age. this helps in the development of the child.

i agree with you that 4-5 is the proper age of sending a kid to school so they can enjoy their growing years playing without any responsibility yet.

Four years old is the perfect time for pre-K. Your child will not have to worry about being surrounded by other kids who already know how to read. The average child in Kindergarten, at least in the United States, can't even write their own name. It is one of the first things they are taught and believe me it is a real struggle. The requirement to sit still for say 15 minutes at a time is a national for Kindergarten and though it is important that one thing alone will not keep your child from matriculating. Starting school at 4 is important to the child's development, it gives the parents a break on having to be home with their child and the kid starts to develop social skills and make friends. Literacy is such a huge problem in the world that if kids can start school at 4 years old they should. Most programs for younger kids do not run a full school day. There isn't the homework you would see for say a third grader and the child can actually have fun.

frankly, i'm not sure what the best age for schooling is. in europe rich kids go to school as early as 2. what the scientific reason behind that is, i want to find out. the only thing i noticed with my only chid at 2 is he would have this sad face sometimes when he has nothing to do and i was thinking that's why children as early as 2 are now being sent to school.
