What happened is they got damp. That's what has caused them to stick together. You MIGHT be able to separate them by gently steaming them, but the surface of the photos will still be marked and damaged.

I think your photos may be ruined. You might try and take them to a company that does photo restoration and see if there's anything they can do to help keep your photos intact and do as little damage as possible. The only thing I can really recommend is backing up your photos to prevent this from happening again! If you have film photos, save your negatives! Keep them somewhere safe! And definitely back them up digitally by scanning them! If they are digital photos, save the digital files on your computer, and/or back them up on a CD or DVD! That way if your photo prints get ruined, you can just print out another copy!

You might try putting them in a very moist area and see if they separate. The problem is the ink may be water based and will dissolve or run when they get damp. Good Luck.

Hi charblaize. It's a shame that your pictures got damaged but as I see from your responses you have these pictures on your computer. Since you are having a problem with copying them to a CD, you might want to consider some alternatives. Since you live in the US, you might consider contacting a few of the stores that provide photo services. In my area I use Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc. Some of these stores will actually order your prints online & let you upload them to their site to get printed. Then all you have to do is pick them up and pay for them. You could also consider buying a flash drive. Depending on the size you get these can range from $10 and up. You just plug it into your computer & save the images to the removable flash drive. Then you can easily transport the flash drive to the photo store and have them reprinted. Many of these stores have consoles that can allow you to select the size so you can get a bigger picture of your favorite shots. I have used both of these options myself as I was restoring my brother in laws photo collection after he got flooded. I have also taken advantage of free online photo storage sites. Some, like PhotoBucket, allow you to create online photo albums so you can share your albums with others without paying anything.
