Do you have lots of containers for keeping bits and pieces in?

In every room of my house I have all sorts of random containers for keeping things that I can't find a good place for. I have little baskets, old mugs, paper mache boxes, bowls and empty containers of various types. These have pens, pencils, scissors, paint brushes, nail files etc. all stuffed in wherever there is a space. Every now and again I go through them and throw out the dried-up felt pens and things like that, but they seem to build up again. I suppose it's handy being able to reach a pen or a pair of scissors easily, but I wonder if other people do this. Am I alone in doing this, or do other people have odd containers dotted around?

i have an outed love affairwith boxes! they're all over the place with all kinds of things you can imagine, old bills, letters, pieces of coored paper than may cme in hand, old pens, out of dated maps, music cd's i no longer enjoy, filled notebooks, envelops, stamps, out of use coins andpretty much anything i find an can't bring myself to throw away... i go to a 99 cent store and buy pretty paper boxes, and just store everything i can in them. Sometimes i also buy pretty wrap paper and line paper boxes!

I am the one who keep things (even that has become trash to others) I just thought that I might need to use them someday. So, I need of lots of containers to keep them. I use boxes, plastic containers (that big tupperware) and bags. I never have enough containers!

I have quite a dozen of small containers and all packed with miscellaneous things and most of them are not even necessary. I unpack all when i need one of those things packed there as i am not sure in which container which stuff is packed. Keeping containers tidies up the mess a bit, and i don't like things to be thrown away so i keep everything even if its old.

I am so glad that there are other people who don't throw things away - it makes me feel more normal!

you are not alone. my wife makes some baskets out of old news paper and when it is all painted up we use this to store some pens ( well actually my pens and my stuffs). i like buying a lot of pens, a lot of markers, a lot of pentel pens. i also buy a lot of colored pencil and pencil as well. so my wife puts it inside this weaved baskets and store them on easy to reach for me.

I had to smile a bit when I saw this discussion, because I do have lots of little containers strewn throughout the house to toss things into. My sister was worse, I think, because she would just keep a big old box in each room. Her plan was when something ended up in a room it didn't belong she would just throw it in the box. Then when she actually did her weekly cleaning the box would be gone through and things would be taken to the right place. (I don't know if this really happened on a weekly basis though.)

I suppose that having small containers is an advantage, because things are easier to find than in a big box!

You are not alone with this my friend. I have an array of baskets (mostly wicker) which are handy in keeping all sorts of things. I keep several up my cabinets which are used for all purposes - filing of papers, depository for books and magazines, keeper of arts and crafts, fruit trays, food servers, make up keepers, medicine baskets. I also keep all sorts of ceramic jars for my pens and pencils, toothbrushes and toothpastes, plants in the house (my husband's hobby), key containers, knick-knack holders, spices storage jars, cooking utensils holder, cookie jars, candy jars, tools holder... name them I have them. How about fancy holders for girl accessories - hair clips and pins, fancy jewelries, real jewelries, broken jewleries, toiletries, cellphone holders. I feel these odd containers make our place more homey and lived in. It is also a good way of training your children to being neat and orderly as they will have containers to stash away their things - toys, books, board games, baseball bats, etc.

I have been in homes where they don't seem to have any little containers on surfaces. They must just put everything away in drawers.

For me, I love to use boxes. There are 7 boxes in my room. There are not the ugly plain cardboard boxes. I think this is the best way to organize the many things in my room.

katsalot, it is a fantastic idea, I do not do it but I find it practical and must be even appealing to have all sort of good looking containers around a room that not just organize but help to decorate. I will be in search of containers that suit my decor.

Hahaha, you're not alone on this one mate...I too often find that even if i organise my stuff, there will always be some other stuff that doesn't have a place. Usually i get one compartment for them, but then i end up having to get more than 1 of those compartments because most of them are needed regularly. So the place semes to forever be in a mess no matter how i organise them -.- haha ^_^ take care~

There always seem to be those things that you have to put somewhere, and you end up putting them in a thing for putting those things in (if you see what I mean)!
