Do typos, spelling errors and grammar effect our myLot earnings?

I tend to have a lot of typos in my discussions and responses. I probably have some grammatical mistakes as well. When I don't have typos or spelling errors, it's usually because I took the time to run it though spell check before I submitted it. My spelling is "okay" but far from perfect. Most of my spelling errors are things that I could catch. In other words, I know what I don't know how to spell. Does that make sense? But there are times that I'm passionate about a topic and I just get fired up and type away without looking back. I have certain things that I do on a regular basis. I'll add extra letters in certain words or add an "e" at the end of a word that doesn't belong there. Sometimes I think my typos and spelling errors give certain people the impression that I'm less intelligent than I am. I KNOW there are people out there that are extremely judgmental about spelling errors. I've seen the discussions where they complain about it! I do care to SOME degree, what people think about me, but apparently not enough to be careful ALL the time. But, if someone were to say that typos and spelling errors will cause me to earn less, THEN I might make more of an effort!

From what I have heard - spelling and grammarical errors are going to cost you earnings for your discussions and responses. You have to take in the idea that myLot isn't paying us just to post anything. They are paying us to provide them with QUALITY responses. How much quality is truely in a post that has an extreme about of grammar and spelling mistakes. Not much at all. So my advice would be to start checking for those mistakes because most likely it is costing you quite frequently.

I don't think typos would have an adverse effect.I too do get some typos [for example when I wrote 'some' right now I typed it as 'soem'.I try and make efforts to avoid them but sometimes they do occur.Earlier, I used to be terribly perturbed by these[whether others would think ill of me or not , I found it unforgiveable] but once a comment by a valued friend here in my lot changed it.She just said' Kala what is a typo or two between friends?'.After that I do not worry too much-for the most part our friends respond and there are umpteen others who write one liners , and short responses with mistakes.THey have taken the time to respond. That is enough as far as I am concerned when I read theirs to my posts. They do say that they expect quality responses and so we write some elaborate posts. But, whether people who are absolutely perfect would rate us negative or not is another question.I have no idea.

And I was not even aware that people would be so judgemental here.We are just exchanging ideas in this friendly forum earning a bit while doing so.We are not writing an examination after all.If someone is going to be so judgemental , frankly miami , I would not care.Similarly, I feel you write well and so you need not bother.

That, of course , is there Kiran.Sometimes, when the post is totally incomprehensible, then we find it very difficult to participate. But, normally, I just go my way without choosing to answer complicated discussions or when they are totally long winded and disorganized.I choose the topics -after all I spend only a limited time here [though it has definitely increased of late]and just have fun in the course of learning ..We have such intersting variety and observations here.

Hi kala,I tend to agree with you, i feel what matters is what you convey, not your grammar and spelling and sentence formation capacity. But it is better to have some semblance of order and correct use because it makes the discussion easier to follow and understand..

heehee. I Love your point, and I Love your wit. I'm generally anal about my own typos and such, but as you can even see here, I failed to capitalize my very first word, and, sometimes, I, get, comma, crazy...yuk yuk... Anyway, I used to be the anal type about spelling and such, but then I caught myself knocking someone for their typing/spelling and found after posting it that I had typos. Talk about a humbling kick in the proverbial teeth. Oh well, for those who continue to be anal about such things--it's their own health and mental balance that's at stake, not that of the typist. dr...

Hi miamilady..That is something that I have never thought about. I hope they don't deduct money cause I have a lot of typos too sometimes. I know exactly what you mean, we just type away and don't pay attention to the little things. We are merely trying to get a point across, and don't check for apostrophes and spaces. However, with the amount of tasks that they now have to check, I would highly doubt that they check everyone's spelling. Maybe they look over things sometimes and if they see some discussions that are always spelled wrong, then they may pay less but I really dont know. I do know they have become super strict with all grammer, spacing, punctuations, everything, when it comes to writing the task paragraphs. As long as I can read peoples posts and understand their point, thats really all I care about.

I haven't been able to try any tasks. I think the fact that I have dial-up still prevents me from opening the task pages. Thank you for your reply.

english is my second language and it does bother me when friends' discussions (sent by mylot in email) are peppered with wrong grammar. if the discussion (even if with wrong grammar) is short and not that philosophical i tend to reply. but some tend to write a lot. i guess less is more especially if english is a second language. if this is the case for a non-native english speaker like me then i can just imagine how it bothers the native speakers of the language. peace .

I do not know until I read the comments posted in this discussion. I know good quality will make us to earn more money but never know typos will make our eanings lose on other end. While typing I don't see system, I just look at the keyboard and will respond to the discussions. But I am sure I do not make any typo mistakes. Still I'll make sure not to submit before checking it. :)

I don't think errors like what you mention have any effect on our earnings. It would be hypocritical if it did, because the mylot guidelines forbid us to criticize other people's spelling & grammar, not to mention unfair to people from non-English speaking countries struggling. I've had a problem with typos too. It probably won't happen here, but I mis-typed the word busy, & didn't catch it until after it was posted, & it made people think that I, a guy, was a woman with a huge pair.

I sure hope not! My spelling is usually pretty good, but I've got a long list of English teachers who can agree that my punctuation and grammer are terrible. I read constantly so I'm not sure why, but I've just never been able to figure out what goes where when I'm writing LOL.

yes, some are very judgemental. I used to be an excellent speller and could spell most words from memory or sounding it out. Not any more. I find that I don't take a disscussion as seriously if there are misspelled words and such. Yes, maybe we do need a wake up call. Especially if we are moving toward writing professionally. We should be more careful. On here it does seem to be all appearances and expression.

Hi miamilady, good discussion, thought provoking, because I too am forever in a hurry while posting answers and sometimes without checking the entire answer i post it, and later i realise that i have made a mistake. I wish we had the option to edit after posting, at least once after posting. I think we need to be careful with our posting and check it before posting..

Our gramming [grammar and spelling] errors don't affect the earnings, not at all. But hey! This is a good environment to practice all that, so why not take the chance?

Hi first of all I have not seen your post prior to this and this one is without such typos. Yes most of us tend to be in hurry and post discussion, response and comment without previewing and at the end you feel sort of guilty that there were lots of mistake left there. If you are not so sure about yourself do spend sometime in preview and about grammar I do not think it is a big deal. Of course grammar would count when you are posting a discussion and mylot does look into this I feel.

It has to effect earning and that too in a negative way. See making errors lessens the quality of your post and we all know mylot pays for quality and not the quantity. Secondly some mylotter rate posts having too many mistakes as negative and that surely will decrease your chances of earning here. In case you are not that good with spellings, why don't you use a spell checker all the time. I am using Firefox and it has an excellent in built spellchecker. It really helps.

I think it has no sense to decrease earnings beause typos, spelling and grammar errors. Mylot needs QUALITY tips, that's true. But not all the members are English-speaker. Some people just want to improve his/her english by mylot and can earn money at the same time. certainly, they will make more errors than those native speakers. If do so, they will loose enthusiasm. Then, how can mylot bacome a worldwide webstie?
