What's your favorite "rainy day" meal?

When the weather turns wet and nasty I like to make either a big pot of beans or a home made soup or stew for supper. All it needs to go with it is either cornbread or a side salad and you have a wonderful comfort food meal that is warm and very filling. So what is your favorite rainy day meal?

I like a pork cazuela. I cook pork with big peeled potatoes, carrots, onions, a clove of garlic, a couple of oregano leaves, salt and pepper. When it´s cooked, I thiken it with coarse corn meal (polenta or chuchoca). A salad on the side completes this meal.

That sounds really good. I had not thought of using corn meal to thicken the broth. I will have to try that! Thanks for the idea.

Yes, I had forgotten about that but breakfast foods also make a wonderful rainy day meal. The kids love them too!

I like soup too on a COLD rainy day more than just any rainy day. I like the cornbread too!! Sometimes we will just have a "breakfast supper" and eat biscuits, bacon, and eggs.

I love lasagna. Of course unless it is on sale at Superstore and it tastes good, or unless it is the one with the oven ready noodles, I will make it from scratch with ground beef, tomato sauce, onions, oregano, bay leaf, mozerella cheese, cottage cheese, and eggs. Ricotta is a bit too expensive, and I am not that fond of spinach. I will then make a salad of romaine lettuce, spinach leaves, tomatoes, green onions, green and red peppers, and maybe some shredded carrots and celery to go with it. You do not need any bread and you can put the leftovers either in the fridge or the freezer and have it some other time, preferably when there is not much time for anything else.

It has been cold and rainy the past few days. Yesterday we had homemade chili. The day before I made a yummy, hearty lentil soup. Perfect weather for this!

I agree with you. I also like to use my fresh veggies from the garden for home made soups, stews, etc. I also will can quite a bit of them so that we can still have the fresh taste of summer even in the winter.

Hi Mehale, I would enjoy having spicy soups like the Thai tomyam, or hot beef or chicken curries. It really warms me on a cold rainy day!

As long as they are not TOO spicy that sounds really good! I just don't like really spicy stuff. I do like chili and some spicy things, just don't like it when all I can taste is the pepper!

I drink a lot of hot tea and coffee in rainy or cold weather as well. The noodles and soup sounds good too. Sometimes I will make home made chicken noodle soup. I also sometimes make my own noodles. They are really easy to make and taste a lot better than store bought.

I usually make a beef and barley stew or potato soup and always with cornbread. Salad sometimes, but cornbread, always. I like to make potato soup, then put a can of tuna in it.

Sounds like we think alike! LOL, I love home made potato soup. I made a big batch last week. And beef and barley stew is one of my winter staples. I even canned some this past winter.

The rainy season in much earlier here in the Philippines it is supposedly summer here because of climate change here is the result. My favorite meal during this rainy season is chocolate porridge which called here "champorado" and "arroz caldo" is also a porridge with chicken. My most favorite is dried fish it is suitable during rainy season. For now my mother prepared macaroni soup for us.
