Should Teachers be trained-

India

Hello everyone here Ji, Once more a student has been tortured to Death. If trained teachers do not have any patience while teaching, un-trained is better choice. Following is a eye-opening incedence in Nation's Capitol . Please Log On:- http://in.news.yahoo.com/139/20090417/808/tnl-punished-by-teacher-11-year-old-girl.html"Punished by teacher, 11-year-old girl dies in hospital "Fri, Apr 17 03:45 PM New Delhi, Apr 17 (ANI): Shannoo Khan, who had slipped into coma after she was hit by her teacher and made to stand in the sun for over two hours, died at a hospital here on Friday. Shannoo was undergoing treatment for "ventilatory failure" in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Lok Nayak Hospital. She was a student of Class two at the ND Primary School in Narela, North Delhi. The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday when Shannoo failed to recite the English alphabet in class. Angered by this, the teacher allegedly hit Shannoo's head against the table and made her stand in the sun for over two hours. Unable to stand the heat, Shannoo fainted and was found unconscious by her younger sister, who studies in the same school. The girl then informed their mother, Rihanna, who rushed Shannoo to Maharshi Valmiki Hospital. Shannoo's father, Ayub Khan, who works as a waiter in a catering company, was away in Haryana for work."Doctors at Maharshi Valmiki hospital told me that Shannoo's condition was critical and she might not survive," said Khan. The 11-year-old was subsequently shifted to the pediatric ICU of the Lok Nayak Hospital on Thursday afternoon."She was brought to our hospital in a critical condition. We have examined the child and her blood pressure is very low due to which she remains in a state of shock. Her pulse is very weak too. She is on a ventilator and we can comment on her condition only tomorrow," said Dr. A. P. Dubey, head of the department, pediatrics, Lok Nayak Hospital."The child was admitted in with severe seizure and her condition further deteriorated before she slipped into a coma. She was shifted to LNJP in critical condition," said Dr. KK Deuri, medical superintendent of Maharshi Valmiki hospital. MCD officials, however, denied that the girl was punished and said she suffered from frequent seizures." In your views, be frank to share your views. It has happened many times earlier as well. May God bless you and have a great time.

This is really hard to hear this. Maybe this should be done when this happens to stop or prevent it.

That sure was an eye opener! How could a teacher overreact like that? Hitting a student in the head for not reciting the english alphabet. And the girl was only 11 years of age! You say that that has happened before which is quite disturbing. It gives me the feeling that teachers aren't trained in the most proper way. Regardless of whether the girl survives or not, the teacher which inflicted that horrible deed needs to be charged or sentenced to jail. I think this goes beyond mistreatment or punishment but rather more of torture.

Hello my dear gloamglozer JI, So nice of your sympathetic response. Your expressions would help heeling the woum nds of the family members. At the same time Govt is taking due action. But will that child become alive due to barbaric act by the teacher. It is an scar on the education. Only dedicated teachers are required to take up the profession. May God bless You and have a graet time.

Many years ago, when I was still a kid, only those who were passionate about teaching and wanted to impart knowledge became teachers. There were a few 'bad' teachers but most were dedicated in nurturing the minds of the young. From my observation, at least in my country, the majority of those who become teachers nowadays are not actually interested in teaching. Some had no choice. Some sees it as an easy job with long holidays. Many of them try to put an image of dedication and seriousness in front of certain officials. They are more concerned about getting good results from their students and have no qualms in punishing the students. So as an answer to your question teachers should be trained in human relationships. Any failure in psychological tests should not be tolerated. Teachers like the one in the story should be suspended from teaching and sent to a rehabilitation course. Any repeated offence should merit a sacking. all the best, rosdimy

This is an appalling incident and no child should ever be physically punished in this way for any reason, but I do not think it can be considered as somethng "trained teachers" do in comparison to the untrained. ONE trained teacher has done this so it doesn't make a case for using untrained teachers in preference to those who are trained. Perhaps you didnt intend to suggest this? In which case, I apologise for interpreting it that way. I realise that similar incidents may have occurred in other schools, hospitals etc & I am sorry to say that there are probably individuals in most jobs who are really not suited to their position. There are trained doctors who have murdered their patients but that doesn't mean that untrained doctors would do a better job. It means that those who are in such positions should be more closely vetted.

I do not know where do we live. Teachers leave bigger impact on every one's life. Kids spend more time with teachers than parents. I am not able to bare all this. Those who go crazy has to be punished severely and taught a lesson.

I guess teachers should really be taught the good qualities of a teacher before teaching. One good quality of a teacher is patience. When one chooses this profession, a teacher should be aware that instances will come where some of the students cannot learn as fast as they expect them to be. It is the duty of the teacher to motivate the students to learn. Punishing them only makes teaching harder. Encouraging them would be more appropriate. Also, instead of punishing the children the teacher should be professional enough to determine what's the problem on the student's side and make a creative way to help the student learn lessons faster.
