A food to die for -- literally

I am always amazed when I read the news. A young woman in Florida stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the chest over get this a pop tart. Now pop tarts to me are not something to get excited about and certainly not worth stabbing someone in the chest over. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517045,00.html What do you think? Are there any foods worth dying for? Or stabbing someone for? Has the US gone crazy? What are your thoughts on this wave of violence?

It's not just the US, my goodness the whole world is going to hell in a hand basket. I think there's just too much stress in this old world.

I must agree...it seems like we need a way to build up immunity to craziness

No, nothing is worth ruining or ending a life. For a pop tart or anything else! Kind of sounds like something else was going on and this put her over the edge.

Oh definitely...something else had to be going on. But at the time, they were fighting over a pop tart. Maturity is obviously not high on their personality hit list.

I think she just wanted an excuse. She must have been building up resentment for a long time. I cannot think of anything worth stabbing or being stabbed for. Certainly not Pop Tarts. I do not even like them.

Some people are absolutely unbelieveable, and it's crazy the things they will do, and the reasons they will give for doing them. If you ask me, this lady need some serious mental help. Here's hoping that those reading this never find themselves in this kind of relationship.

I agree, she does need some mental health help, but I get the idea there may have been more at stake here than a pop tart.

While I do enjoy eating, I can't say that I would want to die or kill over a food. I do think that violence is growing in al parts of the world, although I wish it wasn't so. I wish the world was a better place and that we could end all violence. Why not promote kindness, accomodating others, putting others ahead of ourselves? Might be a better world!

How do we promote kindness. It just seems like so much of what we see is violence - tv show, video games, the news and people don't see and alternative to their unhappiness.

We could promiote kindness if that would be the mindset. We could put on the news stories about people that do kind deeds. Our tv programs could feature upbuilding things. I'm just hoping and longing for a better world. One day things will be different! Debs_place (6162) ranked 107 out of 33,163 in life 23 hours ago How do we promote kindness. Yes, crazy but what if she was emotionally and mentally abused? People can take that kind of chit for years then suddenly just plain snap.

obviously the issue is not pop tarts, there were problems that were never addressed in that relationship and it came to a head when she stabbed him. Yes I have heard of this, once I heard of an elderly man who stabbed his wife because she burned the toast, or something stupid like that.

That's crazy. The big issue here though is the fact that she decided to stab someone over something like a pop tart. This woman has a lot of pent up anger and if she'll stab over a pop tart, she'll stab over anything. Of course we can't be too quick to judge, we don't know the full story, he could be a real a$$ and maybe he deserved it but this story reminds me of a case we had at work a few weeks ago where the husband was whipper snipping his grass and his dog was barking at it. First he tried to strangle the dog and when his wife yelled at him to stop he went inside the house and grabbed a knife and stabbed the poor dog. The dog had to be euthanased as the wife couldn't afford surgery. There are manydangerous people living around us, it's unnerving.

Sounds like someone was a victim of mental or emotional abuse, some people can take stuff like that for years then suddenly snap.

LOL and it had to be over a pop tart heheh Actually from reading the article I get the idea that what kind of food it was didn't really matter. The refusal to allow her to eat anything in there might have been the main reason behind the whole thing. Nothing is worth dying for - or at least very few things are -so I will tend more towards option b) US - and indeed the whole world - is going crazy. People are indeed acting really strange nowadays. tempers are high, people act selfishly and impulsively, consequences do not deter anything, and it's like we're in the middle of some weird game. Violence breeds violence. People that grow up in places where violence is high, seem to have developed some sort of emotional immunity to violence. It doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary. But then again, there was always violence in the world, some gratuitus just like now. So maybe this is just normal too. Maybe we aren't supposed to evolve. Or maybe for each evolution we have to go back a few steps in other things.. maybe that's how we evolve - 1 step forward, 5 or 6 backwards :)

I wish I could still read that article but it's already gone. It sounds to me like she had taken a lot and this was simply the last straw, things like this do happen.

Could be he'd done more than a few things that was hard to take and perhaps this was just the last straw and she lost control ..... of course anyone of sound mind would have simply walked out.

Oh my gosh... No, I don't think any food is worth dying for. There has to be something wrong with her, if she stabbed him over a pop tart... seriously. The human race is getting scarier by the year.
