Do you go back to discussions to see if someone answered you?

I like think of mylot like a huge dinner party with many discussions going on at different tables. You can mingle as much or as little as you want. You can listen in and participate actively if you feel you have something to contribute or ask. Or you can start your own discussion. When I think of the word "discussion", I think of one person launching it. You listen to what they have to say so you can best answer them and if you do respond, you'll want to see if they answered what your response. It may lead to an even more interesting discussion, more in depth - or perhaps enlightening - or fun. Same for those who respond to your discussions - they might have something to say so interesting or they may have a question for you. Do you go back or speed on to the next? There is no rule that says you have to respond of course.

Your dinner party analogy is a good one artemis. I try to answer responses in discussions that I have started as long as there is enough for me to work with. I feel that when someone has taken the time to try and add to my discussion, then the least I can do is reply or attempt to answer their question(s). I feel that it is more a series of unrelated posts than a discussion/conversation if nobody is reading and reacting to the comments being left. You can't expect others to follow everything that goes on in a discussion that someone else started. They may not have the time, interest or inclination to do so. I don't always have the time to get back to everyone right away, but I try to respond to as many people as I can eventually. Also, I try to start only as many discussions as I can handle responding to. Some discussions get fewer responses but, if enough catch on, you can quickly become swamped. Cheers.

Yes you can become swamped. Do you return to discussions you replied to - especially if its an interesting topic? Sounds like you're the perfect mylotter, you really want to have conversations. I call the series of unrelated posts on any given discussion - hit and run mylotters. Those who are speeding through just to try to rack up posts.

Yes, sometimes. If the OP replies to my response, then I try to at least come back to read the comments left. Whether I respond depends on what I have to work with. Whether I come back to a topic depends on how much time I have and how interesting I find the topic and the discussion around that topic. It's nice to hear that you get that impression of me. I'm here to engage in meaningful conversation first and foremost. Earning some money on top of that is a bonus. Fly-by-nighters are here for the cash alone and it shows. The funny thing is that this approach is usually a waste of time. MyLot openly states that they pay for contributions to discussions. How much money can you make if you are disconnected from the discussion and are adding little to it?

You can't get bored, in fact, sometimes its quite the opposite, I get so addicted I'm on much too late, even though I should go to sleep because my little one will be up before I want to! Or I am on through his naps when I should be sleeping!

Yes rude jerks are everywhere - my little one is sleeping and I should join him soon or I'll regret it in the morning!

When I leave a response to a discussion, or even a response to someone else's response to someone's discussion (did you follow me on that?), I always get a notification from mylot about the comment made back to me after I left my own. And I always go back and read and rate it. Along the way I read other people's responses and I may add my own two sense to them as well. But that is how I keep up with who commented back to me. I don't go back to the discussions to check, I just wait for mylot to notify me.

Oh yeah... that too! Do you know, I don't know how to set notifications for all of my friends - at this point I only get notifications for pyewacket - she is prolific and it fills up my mailbox. There have been entire days I've spent just answering her very interesting discussions! I too put my two cents and sometimes my quarter in as well to others discussions!

Sometimes..depending on the discussion....I really am a bit disappointed that so many do start discussions and you never hear from them....like they didn't even read what you responded....so sometimes I do....sometimes I don't!

And so much can be missed. Sometmes half of the responses are just the hit and run posters but if you don't take the time to wade through them you may miss the responses with substance! I think the fact that you give such great responses is why you have discussions with many pages of replies!

oh a btw, I've been guilty of not replying because I take a break! Or at one time I used to get pages and pages on each discussion and get overwhelmed!

of course i do but when i open my email i can see all the notifications there. i also check so i can give them comments and answer there questions if ever their responces are with question. i do also enjoy responces that i learn a lot as well not just they responded because they like to response. sometimes i dont comment on them all but i do read every response i have. i hit the positive rate if i really leanr something from that response.

I hit the positive too if they really shared something about themselves or gave a thoughtful answer. The thing is, I don't just mean for discussions you start - but all discussions. Like will you come back here to see if I responded to you and added more to the discussion or even asked you a question?

I agree it is a way to start a friendship and keep the intersting conversation going - or even learn something new as you say!

like i just said artemis i will see it all at my email that is the easiest way to rack it all down. like your comment i saw it on my email so i read it and now i am commenting at it back. sometimes i wait for some members to comment back at me but sometimes they dont. i am really happy to read that people comment back at my responces it is also a great way to start friendship.

I certainly do cause I might miss something. May it ba a question for me or an added information I just want to check back. When you look at the discussions I started, I always have a reply for eveyone. I don't know why but i feel like I'll give them the impression that I don't give a damn to what they've said so I make sure I get back at them.

sure, i will. i know i will know the knowledge that others told me. i think it is necessary for you to appreciate others. you will know what other's mean. may be you can reply other's anwer ,then you may be a friend of others. so i think go back to discussions to see if someone answered you is necessary. my pardon

Yes i do! I think that is a good habit here in myLot because it promotes interaction and healthy discussion. Sometimes we learn something new this way and sometimes it's kind of addictive. I think it is also a good way to thanks then topic starter and going back and responding kind of sends them a message that we appreciate their effort. Though there's is no rule about it, i willingly go back to check for new comments. Some people come here just to earn so i really can't blame them.

I guess in the US, although the little extra is nice, perhaps we don't have the perspective. But I do appreciate those who go back and check - both discussions they've started and those they participate in. I also will participate - reply to other people who respond to a discussion I'm interested in. You must be a great mylotter - have fun posting!

well yeah i read all those who respond to me and i respond to them also. so you have the point there that if you start discussion and somebody respond, it may lead to more interesting discusion. happy mylotting.
• Abernathy, Texas
21 Apr 09
Yes that can happen. Of course you also get hit and run mylotters, those who speed through - sometimes just reading the title or the first line and not really getting the topic at all. OR those who just say, I wouldn't know or something of the like. Those not interested in adding to the discussion but are just racking up posts.

What about discussions, like this one, that you reply to - do you return if you've been answered?

I go back and check for replies, of course. It wouldn't be much of a discussion if you just have your say and then leave. It's supposed to be give-and-take. I'd really like to know too if somebody had something to say about what I had to say.

You are so right. Like a live conversation - which is what a discussion is - a conversation - there is a give and take. You must be a great mylotter. Have fun.

I would love to hear what others have to say about the discussion I initiated. Personally, I post discussions that I am really interested in. I check responses and rate it whether positive or negative as a sign of my appreciation for those who bothered to comment on my post. i love Mylot. Im quite new here but I am already hooked to this site, The exchange of ideas and information is fascinating and fun.

I like going back and reading all the responses because everyone has a different opinion and something to contribute. I have always been curious about what people have to say about different things and myLot is an excellent place to share points of view on every topic that comes to mind. I have been replying to everyone who has posted something on the discussions I've started so far and planning to continue. However, I guess how long I can keep doing that will be depending on how many responses I receive. Cheers!

Just wondering how many do this. A discussion after all isn't one sided, its give and take. Mostly this discussion was created in the hopes of getting the attention of those who don't go back to discussions they replied to. Mostly these are the drive bys. Those who look at the subject line without reading the discussion and give an answer that has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion! So funny how people answer personally - I wanted to see what others do - I wasn't claiming that I didn't. But people will assume because of your question that you don't.
