Does keeping lots of tabs on browsers uses more memory?

tab - Firefox tabs. If i keep many of them on my browser, will it affect my RAM? Will it slow down my computer?

Does it utilize more RAM than using only one tab? or no matter how many tabs are opened, the RAM it uses is still the same? I need to ask because sometimes i keep still keep tabs even if i'm done with the site. I'm wondering so maybe i can maximize my ram if they're closed.

from what I know yes it does. As my son tells me Mom close this or that. And then I tell him your the reason my computor is slow as he put all his games on mine. I took them off. Wait till he finds out.As he told me to clean up the comp. and take things off I don't use. His fault. Have a nice day. Your friend onlydia

I've been asking myself this same question too. I am using the office PC and everytime my co-worker tries to download a movie through the internet while I am mylotting, the computer always slows down. My co-worker insists that it is impossible to have any effect on the computer speed. I do have another question and I am hoping someone could enlighten me too. Our computers here are connected to one internet server, and when someone is downloading something or playing a game in one of the computers, or watching youtube, the other computers also slow down. why why why

It defend what sites do you open, if there many picture or flash software it need a lot of memory. For open more than one tabs, it will slowdown your PC performance. That is not enough to close an tab, because it still use in background screen. I need to closing my browser, and open again.

I think it's Youtube that's eating up a lot of memory. I usually open too many youtube videos then pause them while they load.

Yes, the rule is very simple: More applications, more RAM usage. New tabs are actually new processes but the tab representation makes us believe that its in the same window. You cab check this for yourself. Just start your computer, and open your browser. Now check the RAM usage from Windows Task Manager. Now open several tabs and websites, and then check the RAM usage. I am sure this small observation will resolve your query.

I just checked out opening task manager that when you are opening multiple tabs then memory utilization is increasing slowly but it increases. On the other hand if you will try to open same multiple tabs in multiple windows then it increases at higher rate. So if you want work on multiple pages simultaneously then it is better to open multiple tabs rather than opening different window for each page.

You can also free up memory by closing any unneccessary programs that are running in the background.
