When in doubt, take a walk...

Of course being madly in love and making love every day is a big help for depression. But if you don't have that, walking helps. Yep, getting out into the fresh air on a nice day really can get you out of a funk pretty quickly. Not to say that is a cure for clinical depression, but it helps me. What do you do to un-grump?

I try to do it (walk, that is) every day. Not just when I'm feeling sad, but for the exercise, to get out in nature, etc.

Dawn- I work on my martial arts forms when I'm grumpy. The focus helps my mind stay in the present moment and whatever was bothering me soon disappears. I also have a gripe journal that I keep which I write in quite a bit and say all the things I would like to say. It helps me work through the issues at hand. Namaste-Anora

I never did take up martial arts and I probably won't at my age, but I would like to get back into yoga.

What I would really like is for my body to be 20 again. But I guess getting back into Yoga (and other things) is the next best option. :-)

Dawn- You can do martial arts at any age. You may enjoy Tai Chi. Definately get back into yoga. I really enjoy it too. Namaste-Anora

I play music very loudly and I dance and dance and dance. I dance alone or with anyone who is in the house with me. Still love to dance - old as I am - I just move! From ballroom dancing to R&R to reggae or soca - I dance!

I don't care that I am a senior, overweight or quite possibly may look stupid. I just don't care. I dance and feel great in no time at all.

Hello Going for a long walk seems effective to me as well.I have had many up and downs in recent years and whenever I was alone and depressed I went for a long walk and tried to think of good things. Change in place is necessary. Staying house whole day alone can increase depression instead of decreasing it.Apart from it being with your pet is another thing which can cheer up mood.I have one dog and one cat and they so understand my mood change. When I am depressed they try to entertain me to cheer up my mood.

The weather is beautiful here... I don't like housework at all. Hurts my back. but I do like a clean house...

When having a "bad day" I find going out often makes me worse Seeing people out and about looking happy and as though they "fit in and are normal" doesn't really do much to improve my mood. I'll do something with the kids, curl up with a good book, watch a film, listen to some music, anything to escape reality really

I don't normally even notice when I'm slipping into a bout of depression, but I think it does have something to do with being less active. For the past couple weeks I've been very active. If I wasn't cleaning the house then I was out and about finding things to do. But these last couple of days I haven't wanted to do anything, and I've been sitting here playing games on my computer. I'm not even getting any laundry done, it's that bad. I did force myself to go to the store yesterday, but as soon as I got home I was right back to the games.

I think it's easier to fall into a depression when you're less active, definitely!

I like to sing, singing raises my spirits and makes me feel good. Now I'm not saying how it makes the people who have to listen to me. That is why I sing in the car by myself.

yah, i agree with your opinion about that matter, but it only helps you temporary. for me the best way to take away your depression is to turn your attention to something you can be busy, focus to it..

Either I count to ten, or think what's my weakness and do what I can to improve my strengths and all. Or even Jog..I'd have to agree, Jogging does it right too.

Exercise relieves stress and helps with depression, but it's also a good therapy for anger, too! When I get really mad I just take a walk (usually a pretty brisk one) and it helps me to cool down. Providing service or help to others also helps take our minds off of our own problems.

hi, i think there are many ways to remove ones depressional thoughts out of ones mind.. 1) unless the person has a will to actually remove it he/she may not be able to come out of it ever.. 2) to do sumthing which attracts an individual like walking u said...is one of the best...dancing...playing with kids or playing outdoors..doing some physical acitvity ..keeping oneself busy. 3) working a lot..being in among alot of people or among few friends who actaully know you well ...
