United States

I speak 3 Language. One is my national language (read, write, and listen 100%), 2nd english (read, listen 100% but write 80% - cuz i am not good with grammar) 3rd is Spanish. This Spanish, I can speak and listen only... about writing I never learn. So, how many language do you speak? how well can you speak? I wish I can learn another language... that's would be Chinese :). What about you? any comments, would be great.

In India it is customary to speak few languages apart from your mother tongue. I speak, read write and think in English, apart from Tamil, Telegue,Hindi,Kannada, and a little bit of Malayalam. Language as a communication builds up bonds of relationship with people to whom you can speak their language. I often make it a point, whenever I go for shopping to speak in a language of the person who attends to you, they very often give you the best of attention. So language as a tool of communication makes the world smaller and closer.

That's wonderful. I always speak spanish to Spanish customers and they are so happy with that... I agree with you, language could make other closer to you once you know how to speak their language and also they will be easy to do business too.

I can speak only four languages. My mother tongue Tamil,English,Hindi and Malayalam. It is a pity I lost touch with Sinhalese which I used to speak very fluently when I was a kid and living in SriLanka. My Sinhalese got rusted and slowly forgotten with no one to speak with after me coming to India. But I am sure that I can pick it up fast the day I meet a Sinhalese.

I know my own language but I do admit that I still need to learn more as there are still words that are too deep for me. The second language that I know how to speak, as well as write, would be english. I learned it through the unusual way of watching too many videos as my father would always like to watch them during earlier times. I tend to try to pretend and act the scenes that I get to watch. The third language that I got to learn would be spanish. I know how to speak as well as write. There are still more that I have to learn in this language as I was only taught the basics and without constant practice, my skills for it has diminished as well. Among other languages that I could speak would be along a few phrases and not complete sentences that I would like to know.. sometimes, the syntax is different, that's why you can literally translate one language into another language. It would be a great advantage if I knew the two languages very well though (^_^ )

hi My mother tongue was Spanish and Catalan (a dialect from Spain). But i haven't spoken the latter since i was 11. Although i can still read it and understand it. I am also fluent in English (both written and spoken) I can speak and write French as well. I speak a little Italian, and i am able to translate from written, although i don't write it myself. I can also translate from written Portugues, and am able to understand it, but i dont speak it. I can translate Latin, some ancient Greek, and Medieval English. I would love to learn either cantonese, mandarin or japonese

I think mylot is great for me to post and read other's posts. The process of participating in mylot is very good for improving English. Wish you could master English smoothy. Have a good day.

Its not about slow learner or anything. U see as a child its easy to learn. And tell u what my partner tried his level best to teach me German but I was not able to do it. But then he was so demanding. When I learn a few he will come up with a harder then that word or sentence and I was not able to do it. Although I met a person yesterday who told me I can learn it in 10 days. Now I am waiting for the book and all.

Spanish is my mother tongue, so I can speak and write it well. English I learned in school, but then I migrated to an English speaking country, so both my speaking and writing improved. I also learned French in school, but I can only understand and write a little now! I moved to a German speaking country, but the language is difficult and I am getting older, so I can understand, but have difficulty speaking it. So the result is like the 3 wise men (or monkeys), who have their hands over their mouth, ears and eyes! In my case though, my eyes are the only sense that is wide open and ready to receive information!
