if so how did that work out for you? did your little buissness go terrific or did it fail miserablly. how old was you then or now. did you charge per kid and hour or just per hour. you see i have tried babysitting before and i failed miserably only one person asked me to. and i only got 10 dollars for watching four kids for 9 hours. but only reason was that they were a freind of the family. and other adults were there to help.

When my kids were little I babysat a couple of different times and I always ended up not getting paid what was due me in the end. One boy tried to set my house on fire! So, no more babysitting for me. There was a woman who lived at the other end of our block a couple of years later who ran a daycare out of her home and she made good money doing it but, man, did she have a lot of kids there!

Hello! Since I love childeren, I decided to be a babysitter. If someone asked me wha do I do and if I say "babysitter" they would go haha. I have been babysitter for a year now for a 4 and 2 year old kids. I am enjoying it especially I have accomplished a lot for myself and for the kids. Appreciation from the parents is one of the reason for me to do my job more better. I earn 9$/hr which is 8 hrs a day. Lucky me for having this job and for having this family. I even have a medical benefits that they have offered and paid by them! hehehe

Just this past year I started doing some babysitting work. I worked about 2 or three hours a week so I earned about $20 or $30 a week. It wasn't a lot but it definitely helped me out and helped my buy what I needed or helped me pay for gas to get home. The job is still open if I ever get to move back to where I worked because the child is rather attached to me and enjoys having me around.

I did. I was really young during that time. I did occasional babysitting for my niece and charge my brother for that. I wasn't making that much money bit it was okay. I just like the idea that i was making something on my own. LOL.

I used to babysit quite a bit in the 1990's. I charged by the hour and by the child. My rate was $7 per hour plus $1 per each additional child. I was much younger then and if I were to babysit now, my rate would be around $10-$15 an hour. But, I don't really have the time to babysit these days. I made a decent amount of money from babysitting, enough to go out and have some fun with my friends. I do have to say, though, that I made more money when I started teaching music lessons instead of babysitting. $10 for 9 hours is unreasonable. Don't be afraid to set your rate and stick to it. If you are working, you deserve to be paid a livable wage for it. You're worth more than that!

I have actually not babysat for money but I do know of a few people that have done it and they actually made a couple of dollars by doing so. It is actually not an easy job if the kids that you are babysitting are a handful but with kids that are behaving and all you have to do is let them watch tv or stay awake and play until it's time for them to sleep that is the easiest part. Although, I have babysat my cousins that is something that I didn't do for money and to be honest it's not easy when they are really young and are running around the house back and forth.

Yes. I am currently working in a big hotel that recently opened. My work is a call center agent for restaurants. Aside from my regular job I babysit children of in-house guests of the hotel. I do it because I like children and you also earn extra for it and aside from that it relieves me from the stress of my regular job. Being with children brings out your child at heart and it makes you feel young too. Actually, I'm not the one who is organizing the charging it's within the hotel. It helped a lot. Almost every month I'm awaiting my salary for babysitting. Aside from my salary from babysitting, hotel guests also gives tip.

Yes, I remember watching the first man on the moon while babysitting. I was probably 13 or 14. I learned alot about taking care of a child and being responsible. I don't even remember how I got the job. Nice family. The dad would always take me home. I got like 75c an hour or something like that. Not much but I was thrilled to get it. They always had the greatest food in their fridge and I ate things I never got at home. It was quite a treat for me. The little boy was a good baby and never had any problems.

I did used to baby sit to make a little extra cash..Not that it was that much but it was still a little extra i could use to buy what my kids needed or even what i needed or even pay bills with. I just gave a set rate never charged that much honestly i wasnt looking to get rich off of it and besides it was my family's kids i was watching and 1 was a friend's kid. So it wasnt a big deal really to me.

i never tried it before but why not if it is an extra income for me and my husband but netherlands is very strict with it coz you have to get a diploma and go to school to become a baby sitter or nanny. it is a descent job and there is no problem with it.

Wow, that's very little for babysitting that long. It's slightly over $1 an hour. But I understand for family. I babysat for free for family back when I lived around them. But yes, I constantly babysat for money before I turned 18. I babysat family for reduced rates when it was on a regular basis and I also had a family that I hadn't known before that was looking for a babysitter and hired me for $30 a week to babysit for 5 hours a week. It was lots of fun and the kids were so well behaved that I actually felt bad about taking the money (I was 16 at the time, though, and did need it). :) Babysitting is a really good experience, I think, but it's certainly nothing that will make tons of money.
