I've just realised what caused it! Stress from my Boss.

I"ll come clean. No big deal. Felt sick last week and had an ECG as I hace an enlarged heart. The heart showed no significant change in size so this is good but what not is good is that I have now developed an irregular heart beat and this leaves me frequently breathless. I was in Church a while ago and it came to me what caused it. Is is working for a not very nice human being who stressed and freaked me out so much this past year. My doctor asked if I had been under stress and I gave her some vague answer. But it is him. He has caused my heart to be damaged as he is the only stressful thing in my life. He knows that I could not get another job at my age in this recession and had been trying to get rid of me for nearly a year.so my point is, has anyone ever caused you to be sick? Please don't tell me to leave as I have to finish pay for my house and car before I can retire. I do not have that option.

I do not look at life that way, that people make me sick, situations yes but not people, do you see yourself responsible for making somebody else sick? Of course not but somewhere down the line someone might say that you have, and you may have very little do with it because that person would have gotten sick whether or not he or she ever knew you, so I don't say people make me sick because they can't, unless they took poison or shot me or did something directly to cause harm. Yes you can get sick from stress but everyone handles stress differently, what is stressful for one person is not stressful for another, here is a bit of info on enlarged heart The term "cardiomegaly" most commonly refers to an enlarged heart seen on chest X-ray before other tests are performed to diagnose the specific condition causing your enlarged heart. You may develop an enlarged heart temporarily because of a stress on your body, such as pregnancy, or because of a medical condition, such as the weakening of the heart muscle, coronary artery disease, heart valve problems or abnormal heart rhythms. While having an enlarged heart may not always be preventable, it's usually treatable. Treatment for enlarged heart is aimed at correcting the underlying cause. Treatment for an enlarged heart can include medications, medical procedures or surgery.

It's a pity one can't inflict the stress one receives on to the person who is at fault for causing it. I guess even if your boss somehow saw that report he would still be mean? I can think of about five different ways he would "accidentally" find out, or perhaps you could think of a reason to tell him without any trickery in the first place. It would be my hope that he would care. But it appears that is a faint hope, huh.

Thanks for your idea but if he saw the report hen he would use it against me as I have reached retirement age. He would say to the other members of the Board that I should not work as zI have cardiac problems. He is very underhand and used to getting what he wants. No, if I want a job then I have to keep quiet. Thank you so much for your ideas though - I appreciate your concern

I have had stress make me sick before. I was already sick all the time when I was pregnant with both of my kids, but the stress that their fathers put me through while I was pregnant just made it that much worse. I hope your boss stops being a jerk and that you start to be less stressed in your everyday life.

I think that it is so cruel that your boss would push you so far and cause you so much stress so that you would quit. I would think that'd be illegal and he could get in trouble for it. He'd have to have a legit reason to fire you and then fire you! Maybe it's more paperwork to fire you vs. you just quitting, either way I honestly don't think it's right he's done that to you. I hope you can make some good money online so that you can retire sooner then expected. Is there anyway to get help from your government? I know there were times I was very stressed because of work and I quit that job, my fiance made me. He said there's plenty of time for me to work for benefits! Lol, well now we're getting married so we have to find a job that we can make enough money to get benefits, lol. In any case, I do hope that you can find some stress relieving tips etc. If you work in a place that you can keep candles, tea, or anything that smells good I would definitely do so. I have a bottle of tension relief lotion that has chamomile, peppermint and lavendar, it's great for tension, and such a great smelling lotion that I instantly feel better. Plus it's a cooling lotion. In any case, Good Luck to you, sorry this was so long.

Good Luck With your appointment, and I hope that you can retire sooner then expected. I know that the world needs to help one another out, but often times countries are so concerned with themselves they don't think about others. We all could use each other's unique wisdom!

No, I am already receiving my retirement benfit and remember that I live in a Third World country - it is not enough to live on whilst I am paying mortgage and car loan. when I finished paying these then I could retire as I do have a well [art time job. I have no recourse to anything because I should have retired already. I can get hold of a lavendar lotion and will buy some. I do already drink herbal teas - keep a selction in my office. Pleae don't apologise for the length of your response - I am so happy to receive a caring resaponse from you and others. I just have to deal with it. I have an appt. with a cariologist att he end of th month to assess the damage. Learn from me and don't let anyone make you ill. Blessings

I'm so sorry for the stress your boss is putting you through. Too bad you can't hit him up for the doctor bills and for the medicine too. I'd have to let him know in some way what is happening to me due to the stress. That even in work it needs to be less. It's too bad that we have so many bills to pay and have to put up with crap like this from a jerk. I've been there and done the same thing. Stress at work is harder on one I think than having it at home. We must have money to pay bills and to live, that's the final result of the way of life. I sure hope things get paid soon for you and you can tell him to shove his job.

Yes.....this gentleman wanted to hire me to write his life story....a very small book....well I met with him and the first time I met him he did all the talking...had a list of how he wanted things done...and was basically treating me like a 16 year old that needed a few bucks to buy a new pair of jeans....well I am a professional writer.....the gentleman had a very high opinion of himself...so I read his manuscript and when I met with him again about what I was going to charge him he acted like I was asking for the world when in reality I was just a little less then most would have charged him.....he was so nasty like he was doing me a favor that when I left I had an anxiouity attack and thought I was having a heart attack....I never called him.....I had the feeling that there would have been a discrepency in what the charges would be and I don't want to waste my time doing someone elses work for little or nothing...once I got rid of him I was much better! I understand totally what you are going through.....

Oh, he was disgusting - no wonder that you had a panic attack! I don't know if you have high bp or not. The problem is that my bp is under control under he attacks me tand then it raises and of course does damage. I'vew been working ion this job for 10 years and have had heart problems for six. The irregulat heart beat is a new thing though caused my stress. I am not in any pain but just become breathelss. I amso cross with myself that I have allowed this to happen but need the job so badly.

Based on my experience, its the relationship or lack of it with your boss that makes or breaks an employee. Most employee resignations i've since(even from big multinational companie with big salaries and benefits) are due to the BOSS factor. I've had my fair share of %%%%%### bosses. But also, been very lucky of getting to work with(take note - note work for) 3 Bosses that we're very helpful to my career. That's why i always try to keep in mind the things i learned (both from the good ones and not so good ones) everytime i deal with those i work with.

That's too bad- just try to not let him affect you. Just think that he has his own boss and problems too. Might be that he's just asfrustrated as you are and doesnt know how to handle his problems. Getting to stressed out will really lead you to get sick. Everything has their own way of working out sooner or later. But of course, its better that its sooner.lol
