Connection Problems!!!!!!!!

Where we live we have the choice of wireless high speed internet or regular dial up no highspeed. Since dial up is so slow that nothing can be done ever we signed up for wireless. It works well in the winter when there are no leaves on the trees and I think there is also less people accessing it. Right now it is extremely unreliable. I was unable to make a single post on Mylot yesterday because the connection kept crapping out. Connection was just good enough to frustrate me. Most frustrating thing is that my wife is here while I'm at work and during that part of the day it works just fine. Anyone else suffer like me? I think I'm going to buy a big chainsaw and cut a path all the way to the tower. I know that would be wrong but it might get the frustration out of my system. Now I'm about to enter this and I'm not sure it'll work.

I actually like the way wireless works my little sister has a laptop and when we goo to the park I will ask her to take her computer. Because the Library is next to the park we go to and I could actually use it there. It works good most of the time some times the signal will go but after a few minutes it comes back. It's fast but some times it takes a minute or two to open the web site.

Wireless connections can be very convenient. We have a wireless router in the house and it allows my wife who finds the cool and dampness in our basement to work on her laptop anywhere upstairs. My personal computer along with the four we have for the children are all in the basement because of space restraints. When our wireless connection from the local tower is working it is very fast. We are able to operate all six computers at the same time provided we don't all start working with graphic rich content.

If you feel up to it you can build your own antenna using a Pringles can and have an increase of up to 3X the signal strength. There are many websites giving a tutorial on this matter. Have a look at this site http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/has.html Sorry but I am not sure on how to get the link to be 'kive'. Since I am not using wireless I have not actually tried it but I think the site is quite informative. all the best in having an increased signal, rosdimy

Disregard my apology. I did not know that the link becomes active after submission.

Thanks for the link. I am going to have to look at this closely. What I saw at a glance last night was a lot of talk about WiFi and I am not sure that is the animal I am actually working with. There was a lot of info there and once I know more about the technology I'm working with you might well have helped me find a real solution. We have a ten foot commercial antenna on the roof of the house. We are in a gully though and that in itself might not be enough. I'm just a little confused because I only seem to have trouble when school is out. During the day it is usually pretty good. During the early part of spring, winter and the late part of fall I usually don't have a lot of trouble either. Summer is a nightmare though. Right now I have trouble in the morning before going to work and in the evening when I get home. Appreciate the info though. Thank you very much.

This is actually done by some people in my country. A group of students who are my son's school mates built an antenna using the cover/top of a pot. This improved the reception of wireless signals. If I want to build one I would use a wok, a Chinese frying pan/pot. It is shaped nicely like a satellite dish. Many people used this to hugely increase the reception of radio signals but its use has been banned. The population and acitivities in the school could have either strengthen the signal or deflect most of the signals towards your abode.

Yes i think when you want get an activity on the net and your connection is really poor or you can't connect and so you need to wait much time to load contents or webpages i think it is really boring for you that you are waiting for a good connection too!!Surely using wi-fi normally it is ok but there are period where is really slow or it is not stabel and this is bad for your activity!!anyway i see your connection is muh better today:)):

Cutting down that tree made a difference. I just don't think it is the whole issue. By the way the tree was slated to be cut down later in the year anyway. It interferes with the use of a small field I own for growing crops. We still have lots of trees. Just that one was in a really bad spot.

I haven't had that connection problem so far during i connect and browse any site including mylot. Dial up really slow and in my experience in it, every three hours it disconnect, this maybe due to depending to the company you apply for connection. Now i am using dsl ( you can use the phone while you are in internet ) connection and it is faster but sad to say the computer i am using is not as fast as the connection of the modem. If you can afford it why not having a try other kind of internet connection and see the difference then you can decide what connection you are to use. Maybe there are times that the connection fails because of weather. I am also experiencing connection problem, like i am connected but i can not open any site. I have to repair the connection so that they will renew the ip address, when it doesn't work i restart the computer and restart the modem and it will work.

That really big problem because you have no other choice but dial up, and that is slow according to you, so you have nothing to do to have good connection. The only way will be stick to it to have internet connection, and you will accept the things that because you are using dial up you will no expectation that you will have faster connection. Dial up also doesn't always slow and made your internet connection problem as always, i think if you are using it and you are in mylot it is not slow all the time.

Regular dial up works but it can't handle a lot of internet content. I doubt if it would work well with Mylot. It is not terribly reliable either. Our phone line does occasionally have serious problems. Mice get into the control box about a mile up the road and chew on the wires. When the weather gets damp we'll start getting interference on the line and the internet connection will not work. It was very hard to convince them that there was a problem needing to be repaired. Then it was very difficult to convince them that the problem was not with the lines in my house. When they finally came and repaired the problem I suggested they find a way to keep the rodent life out of the control box. The repairman actually told me that if it wasn't for the mice he would be out of a job. Thanks for inspiring me to have confidence in the system.

DSL and highspeed cable are not available in my area. The only alternative I have is dial up which for me is slow to the point of being useless.

I was in a similar situation that yours lately. I get full connection in the office with no problems at all and when I reach home to connect to the internet the connection ic never reachable then, I get angry because in day time the connection is perfect. I cannot chat online at home nor can I sen email so It is depressing for me, well thankfully there is internet which is very rapid in the office but still we cannot be doing all we wanted to o at home. There are some restriction while using internet for personal purpose in the office.

I have cable connection for my computer and the only wireless internet I have used is in my phone. And the internet in my phone cannot be compared to the wireless internet of a computer becasue is not the same capasity. The internet in my phone was not good it was slow and to be honest I did not know how to work it but my kids had fun with it.

I wish cable would be available here. We live out in the country and the cables just don't travel that far out of town. If I had highspeed cable I honestly think I would be already working from home full time instead of doing customer service from an office. Oh well, we do the best we can with what we have.
