well, i think it is. i mean, you have to be able to keep up a rhythm and have an accurate pace...you have to make sure that you are getting the words out without stumbling around. its much harder than you think...try rapping and record yourself. i assure you that you will sound horrible because its not something that can come easily to everyone. it does take some talent.

this is nonsense let me say this it is very complicating to try to rhyme sentences and make them make sense not to mention doing it at a very fast pace. so i think whoever wrote this discussion should try to bust a flow and see how well you do. also one more thing if you like to dance the beat to rap is so much more rhythmatic that a beat from rock or any other genre of music. you have to have a little soul in your blood or you are a boring individual

Its talent - you are right. I just prefer to dance to a genre of music that is for the soul :)

Anyone, to me, can be a rapper. I do not think that it is at all a musical talent. Now being able to reach a High C without almost passing out, that is a musical talent.

Singing and reaching a high C is talent because it takes a lot of training to do what a professional singer can do, and by the way singers who write their own music have to do some rhyming, so it is talent. Rapping requires that you talk or speak on key and that you be able to rhyme, which is not hard to do if you have a rhyming dictionary. Singing requires that you learn how to manipulate your voice on key. Professional opera singers go through many years of training before they can go pro, and they start from the time they are three to five. My grandmother wanted me to be a Diva at the Metropolitian Opera and she began training me when I was three. I went to the hospital several times for throat infections because I was singing so much and my vocal cords would get worn out. I trained with at least 10 or more vocal instructors in my lifetime, and by the time I was 19 years of age, I had it with singing. I was done because I had been through so much Hell with my voice. These people who are out their now singing at the Met, have to go through so much Hell to do what they do, and I respect them for it.

Anyone can be a rapper huh. seriously. Ima rapper. I bust crazy flows, and when I do, I dont see everyone in the room say "Oh I can do that" no. Being able to reach a high c is just being able to make your voice sound annoying as hell. rapping involves rhyming, timeing, rhythm, it has to make sense and it has to flow together like the words were ment to be in that order. singing is changing the tone of your voice at a very slow pace

I agree, there are some rappers, heck, there are even some singers out there, who don't have any talent at all and they somehow get famous, and I have no clue how they do it because they aren't that great.

The only reason why someone would say rapping is not talent is someone who can't do it.

There is no talent in rapping. The only art form there is poetry and rhyming. They can sing, talk, mock, make sounds, look silly, or whatever. Where are the insturments. They all use machines and talk...thats all. I would like to see puff daddy or jay z paly a guitar or other musical insturment. Hidee Ho neighboreenos

I started this post, and a few of you say I can't rap, I honestly can, but reread what i said, I said MUSICAL TALENT, and it definetely takes a lot of talent, but I've been hearing on the streets that rappers are more talented than jazz musicians! In terms of "music skill", wouldn't you agree that it aint so? Don't get me wrong, rap is an art for sure, painting stories with awesome rhythms, but I reckon anyone who has a creative mind, has good control of speaking, and has a sense of rhythm can do it. Playing the guitar, or piano or instruments is another story.

I think so, It however depends on how clearly I can understand the artist and if the message they are passing around is truely a good message of not. The Only rap I do not like is where they sing about degrading women or themselves. - DNatureofDTrain

I think it is cause rapping is not as easy as singing. Cause you need to sing fast while rhyming words and thats hard!!

rapping IS a musican talent. Lets see you create a song and sign it. Have you ever heard of 2PAC? go look into it. Don't disrespect the art because you think its not a talent. Its not a talent if you think everyone can do it, it is a talent because you have to know where to hit your lines at based on the music beats. You may not know much about music, but I do, so I am speaking from experience. I am not a rapper, I create the art of music.
