Do you believe that animals have souls?

Have you ever looked into an animals eyes and see a soul there? I do. The church teaches us that animals do not have souls. I disagree, but then, lately I have trouble believing anything the churches teach us, that'll be a whole 'nother discussion. Animals have personality, likes, dislikes, feelings, intelligence. Why not a soul? I don't think their thought processes are like humans, if we take the time to understand how they think we can relate to them better.

They certainly give us soulful looks, don't they. Well, someone will be annoyed by this but I will say it anyway--it seems to me that if we have souls, then so do they. So I am uncomfortable "owning" an animal. I do like to eat meat, though.

Ah, those eyes, who can resist them? My animals own me, not the other way around, they have me wrapped around their little toes/claws. I enjoy having them here, they fill my days with laughs and affection.
