Tips For Keeping Cool When It's Hot

I hate the hot weather, I do not tolerate the heat, especially the humidity and stickiness that we get. It makes me so irritable, and whatever you do you sweat, it's hard to sleep at night and I get so uncomfortable and sticky Apart from buying a massive fridge that I can sit in which is not quite feasible, no room and the expense too Do you have any great tips for keeping cool when it gets too hot and it's humid and you stick to everything, the hot weather is so draining I think I should have been born in Iceland or near the North Pole, or better still live in the UK in the Winter and emigrate to a cold country in the Summer I have got a fan constantly on the go but it's just blowing around the warm air and it's also affecting my eyes which is a double strain on them as I use the computer Damn this weather, anyone else hate the heat and would much prefer the cold weather? I always get like this between June and August, probably why it's affecting my depression more. Roll on September......

I know exactly what you are talking about. Right now it is 2:30pm and it is 100 degrees but with the humidity it feels like it is 106degrees outside. We do have air conditioning but it just runs all day and can't keep up with all the heat and it will warm up soon in the house. We do have ceiling fans that go all the time plus box fans that we can turn on if needed, but like you said, it mostly blows the hot air around. Just keep hydrated for sure. If you can get a cloth or ice pack and put some ice in it and put it at the back of your neck and cold showers help for a little bit. I do not want winter all year round but I sure don't want the summer heat either. The heat does effect our moods. I would love for our weather to be nice enough all year round that we did not need air conditioners or heaters. Keep cool the best way you can my friend.

It's a happy medium isn't it. Sometimes I wonder if it would be great to have Winter all year round but then we'd suffer from lack of sun. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so damn sticky and humid. I am also eating ice lollies as well. I don't have the windows open because of the bugs and the noisy neighbours but there is no breeze coming in anyhow. 100 degrees? OMG..... I'd be on the first flight to the coldest place on earth if I had to suffer that, I am heat intolerant for sure! Shame we can't control the weather with a remote control like the television PMSL!

Do you know about the cold rolls you put into the freezer and then tye around your neck in a scarf? They help because they cool the big blood flow to your head. They are made out of the same thing you can buy to put in your pots that hold your plants. They expand with water and keep the soil moist. When you freeze them they hold the cold, you need to soak them first. I put mine in a cut off panty hose which I tied at both ends. then I put it in a scarf, one of the cotton kinds. I use this and it helps me.

Your jugular vein is in your neck isn't it, that sounds like a great idea thank you, someone once said to me if you run your wrists under cold water, but I can't be standing in the bathroom doing that every five minutes!

You could make these things for your wrists also. I have three which I keep rotating. They are very cheap to make it only takes a very small amount of the jell for each one.

Does Gissi like the hot weather? I guess being a wolf we are already hot blooded and need cooling down. Sadly we don't get the dry heat other countries get, it's too sticky. Love you and my bessie mate ;0)

Another variation (cheaper too) to the first poster's suggestion - I take regular sized bandannas and wet them with water to about 3" from the ends. Put them in the freezer until they are stiff then put them at the base of your neck, tying the ends in a loose knot. The small amount of water that results from the thawing also helps - the evaporation effect will help cool you off a little bit too. I have 3 in my freezer as we speak - it isn't too bad today but in the past week the heat index has been over 100 degrees by 10 AM - come oooooon winter!

I hate the hot weather too! It is so hard to focus on something that is supposed to do while I am heating by awaful hot air! First, I guess maybe we can learn something from the animals like a big dog. Itis 80 degree outside, he is still wearing fur, but his tongue is out of his mouth so as to help himsefl keeping cool! I have been wondered for a long time? Will this work for human-being? Second, I don't like to have air conditoner on! So, it is too cold in the wind! Most of the time, you don't even have a choice! If I can find a way to turn off it, that will be great. Then, I have to eat some ice cream to cool it for a while or drink some ice water! As well as this, you can take a hot water shower, then you will feel much better in the hot atmosphere!

I am hairy my friend, I wonder if I shaved all over I would be much cooler, but then the sun would get to me easier and burn me more, so not a good idea. I would hate to have a fur coat on like an animal in this weather. If I eat too much ice cream I will put on weight again which means even more time at the gym LOL!

Hi ya wolfie34 How ya doin'? Haven't been on for ages I know but life just has been so hectic and I haven't felt like it much. I am not so keen on the warm weather either it has to be said. I can't walk down the street to collect my kids from school without sweating, it's horrible. I only go out in the garden when I have friends around and then I sit under the parasol. Needless to say I have very white legs! I would rather that though than feeling the reprocusions of sun burn for many reasons! My mum screams at me all the time becuase she comes to visit and ends up breaking her back cutting the grass for me and then she comes and visit again it is like a jungle again!! I don't ask her to cut it!! LOL Take care x

Humbug!!!!! How wonderful to see you, here's a big Wolfie hug... Oooops darn it now I've made us both sweaty for all the wrong reasons ;0) I burn easily too so I avoid the sun like the plague. Anywhere I go I sweat, yet I still go to the gym, they do have air conditioning in the gym which is a welcome relief, trouble is the snag comes when you start to actually use the machines then you sweat, well I sweat like a pig on heat PMSL! I hate sweating it doesn't cool you down it makes you more uncomfortable and irritable. Also it's bug season as well and the flaming bugs love poor Wolfie, especially the mosquitoes grrrrrrrrrrrr. Great to see you again! Missed ya

Use a deoderant body powder to help keep those creases from sticking. I think you can hand a damp towel on the fan to cool the air. I actually have resorted to setting a dish of ice in front of a fan. I am not happy in the heat, either.

Did the ice work in front of the fan? I tried putting a pan of ice behind the fan but that did not do anything. I got that idea from when we did not have heat in the winter, I would turn on the stove and put the fan in front of the stove (the heat source being behind the fan)and the fan would blow warm air through the house.

Keeping the windows covered keeps the heat out but you have to leave enough so you can see to work. Lots of heat comes off windows, I also keep long ways rolled up, folded in half, wet, tea towels in the freezer. When they freeze, I put it around my neck ands tuck it into my shirt. It cools my blood and is very refreshing...one tea towel lasts a while...when it's done put it back in the freezer and take the next one. You can have two tea towels on the go at once...one on your neck and one in the freezer.

I feel much cooler already, yesterday was the hottest day this year, grrrr mind you I managed to drive down to the ocean and jump into the sea, it was bliss, absolutely bliss! Wish the ocean was much closer then I'd be there every day, well when I'm not at the gym. Don't laugh I forgot my swimming trunks and towel but I went into the sea in just my boxers, but I soon dried off. They forecast rain this weekend, must be the rain dance I did on the beach to get dry yesterday. Bring on the rain!!!!! wooohoooo

Hi Dear! I also do not enjoy hot and humid weather, however, this is all part of life and wherever one is staying (I mean the place) one is supposed to tolerate the weather conditions. We get extreme weather conditions here in Delhi, it is extremely hot in summers and very chilly during the months of winter. Rainy season also bring lots of rain. As regards, tips for keeping cool, I think taking a bath is the best option. Bathing brings down our body temperature up a considerable extent and it works as analgesic too. I take bath twice or thrice during summer months to keep myself cool.

I can see that you really hate the hot weather! You hate it way more that I hate it.^^;; I don't like the hot weather but I don't think I would want to migrate to Iceland or Alaska or North Pole or somewhere that's freezing cold.^^;; Sitting in front of an open fridge sounds nice. LOL But yeah, it would be a waste of energy and money. I'm also not satisfied with a fan because when it's hot, the air from the fan's hot too. And like you, it also irritates my eyes. This is another reason why I don't like the hot weather. My eyes are allergic to it. They get irritated at times and they would start to get itchy and watery. And yes, it's hard to sleep at night when it's so hot. I often get less sleep during summer. Usually, what I do in a hot weather is take a very, very cold bath and wear light clothes. Sometimes I stay in parts of our house where the wind usually gets in. Sometimes, I stay outside our house where there's a lot of wind.^^;; If it isn't enough, I would be forced to go out and go to the mall and stay there until the sun is no more.^^;;

It is easier to warm up than it is to cool down, and it's also comforting that I am NOT the only one who dislikes the Summer. I didn't know until recently that SAD can affect people in the Summer months, I just thought SAD was the Winter months, guess I am different but I dread June, July and August, maybe in my next life I come back as a hibernating animal who hides in the Summer or I'm born in Scandinavia or somewhere cold but then knowing my luck I'll hate the Winter and the cold, c'est la vie!

Hello wolfie. It is humid and sticky in summer. I think that a better way to stay away from the humid and sticky summer weather is to stay in an air-conditioning room if we cannot move to a mountain area where it is cool. Yesterday I stayed all the day in my office doing paper work from eight in the morning till eight in the evening without coming back for lunch. I feel nice and cool in the office with the air-conditioner on. But you know, effective as it is, it is costly if we use air-conditioner at home all the time. Then we will have to pay a lot for electricity after all of this enjoyment from the cool given to us by the air-conditioner. Another solution to this is to stay in a mountain village where it is cool if you have some relatives there. Anyway, I wish you all the best and have a cool summer.

The climate must have changed a lot in UK since Imoved because I never remember it being that hot 30 years ago. Ihad terrible trouble getting aclimatized here but now I rin and bear it. I dislike the summer months too - July and August are the hottest here but as you suggest it's the stickiness that makes them worse. The wrists under the cold tap is the way I get round it and I keep the shutters (blinds in UK I guess) down when the sun is high in the sky. I don't like air conditioners as they play havoc with my sinus problems and although I have a portable one here, I have never used it yet. It will soon be September and then all will cool down again and then it will be snow and different problems.

We don't have the luxury of dry heat that some exotic countries get, ours is more humid and sticky, the temperature doesn't always need to be high to be unbearable, I guess I am heat intolerant, I don't feel the cold, but boy do I feel the heat and it makes me doubly grouchy!

Hey wolfie! Again, dear brother we are the same in our feelings about the heat too! I do not do well in the extreme heat! It makes me physically sick! I get dizzy and very uncomfortable! I have to be very careful or I can get heat exhaustion and pass out! I have to make sure that I don't over heat or get dehydrated too. And here in the US in NYS it gets very hot and extremely humid in July and August so not a good combination! And the electric bill goes up to begin with in the summer before you even turn on a fan or AC! And I also keep the fan running which does nothing but blow the hot air around! It puts me in such a bad mood and I think the heat does that to alot of people and that makes it dangerous! I believe that the crime rate goes up here in NY too in the summer! So far it hasn't been hot yet, so since July is coming in the next few days we will see how bad it gets! And what's worse is I have to take a trip to Florida to see my Mother (long story-but if that isn't bad enough!) where the temps are unbeliveably hot and humid and since they are closer to the equator the sun is deadly hot! You feel like you are in an oven and can't even be outside for a minute! Everything is is airconditioned there, but I'm not used to that extreme heat! Should be miserable! Along with my fear of flying....Stay cool if you can~

Yes heat affects people in different ways, makes them moody, irritable and short fuses too. I have always wanted to go to New Zealand and they're seasons are the opposite to us, so if I had enough money I think I will visit New Zealand in our Summer and in their Winter, now there's a plan. Or a plane ticket to Iceland, Wow you fear flying too, I hate it too, although I did get on a plane on my own in 2007 to Rhodes but that was desperate measures that drove me onto a plane, escaping the ex! I would have done anything to get away from my ex, so flying was nothing. I still can't believe I got on that plane alone. Fear does strange things to us, so does the heat to me! Grrrr I'd love some snow right now!

I think the heat really gets to most people, wolfie, and I am one of them!I also have a skin condition that bothers me to no end if I start to sweat. The best tip I can offer you is to keep the cold drinks flowing because they do afford a feeling of coolness coming from within. And wouldn't it be nice if you could hire some fanners to stand over you and do nothing but fan you?

Yes you should keep your body cool in some hot conditions. Use some fruit in your food this will make your body cool and also give you some calories to your stamina. Also using some oil in your hair will also reduce the heat in your body.

There is this spray in the UK called Magicool, which stays cool no matter where you are.. and you just spray it on your face & it keeps you amazingly cool! If you can't get hold of any of that stuff, I'd recommend that you just drink lots and lots of water.. that will cool you down! Or buy a pool! If you fill it with lovely cool water and then swim in it, that will cool you down wonderfully! Other than that, all that I can recommend is sit in the shade as much as you can, and fan yourself with a piece of paper.. there's very little we can do to control the weather! Oh, suck on ice cubes as well! That's lovely too!

I live in the UK, thank I shall look out for this, maybe Boots will sell it?! I would love to have a pool, but expensive, I wish I lived nearer to the ocean, it's cooler by the ocean and it would surely cool me down for a nice long swim, although the sea isn't as clean in this country as it is abroad or clearer either. Trouble is if I went to Cyprus where the sea is beautiful this time of the year the heat would be even more unbearable! I can't win! But I do have plenty of ice lollies to suck on to cool me down.

Do you have a cooler? it is cheaper than AC if you don't have a budget on AC, you can rely on Air coolers. It is really difficult to stay in a place where humidity is high and there's no breeze of air coming. We are just lucky to be in a place where there is breeze during hot summer season. We use to open our front door, and windows and let the air come in and it circulate in our small place. Getting an ice cube and put them in a bowl and then place them in front of your fan is also an alternative way to cool yourself. Just make sure you drink plenty of cold water so that your body can already lower in its temperature and once you get to do this one, it will help you so cool down.

In my country, it is always either hot or raining. I am already accustomed to hot weather. When it is summertime here, I always know how to keep cool. For example, I always take a cold shower three times a day. I also turn on the air conditioner for maybe an hour or two every day. As for the rest of the day, I just turn on the fan to the maximum level. I also eat ice cream once in a while. Lastly, I drink cold water every 30 minutes. All these things I mentioned somehow helped in alleviating the hotness of summer.

Put some oranges in the freezer overnight. Then when you get really overheated, you can put one under each armpit. Make sure you have sleeves on your shirt though other wise it might hurt. But that will cool you down fast. That and cold showers.
