Why are we interested in the lives of celebrities?

Hey friends, please won't somebody explain to me why most of us have such great interest in the lives on celebrities. Seriously, would you miss it if the media no longer hounded celebs for pictures and such? Personally I don't think that I would miss it a bit. I think I could live perfectly find even if I didn't hear another thing about them. But when somebody messaged me and told me that Michael Jackson was dead, I was in complete shock and utter dismay. As far as I was concerned all of the rest of the celebs could go away on a long vacation on a deserted Island and if I didn't ever hear from them again, I would have been okay with it. But once I heard about Michael. Well let's just say it was too close for comfort. So tell me how you feel about celebrities now that I've shared my true feelings with you. Happy mylot. Peace.

I love entertainment news. xD I recently read "The Mirror Effect" which kind of explained why celebrities and narcisism are so fascinating to us.

Celebrities,,,,,,,,, Well more power to you my friend, as far as I'm concerned I could take it or leave it but I would much rather prefer to leave it because they don't have very much influence in my life. I tend to view most of them as Princess Di or somebody of that category, the clothes they wear are often too expensive to try to immulate. The places they go are nothing like the place where I go to hang out at so what good are they to me? I'm just trying to make a point here. What does night and day have in common? Wh at does celebrities and the average american have in common? Probably nothing, so what good are they to us?

I get so tired of celebrity news. I really do not care who is cheating on who with who and I think it is pathetic the way the public just drops everything to listen to that mess. The whole MJ memorial was past silly for me. People should really get their heads out of the holes they have them in and concentrate on the greater issues facing the world today.

Celebrities......... Well I'm with you there my friend, I mean I do feel like they need to do an autopsy on MJ's body to try to figure out if there was any fowl play involved but as far as making the big outlandish memorials and all of that over it, I really didn't feel like it was necessary. Now if he walked on water that would be a different story because that is what Jesus did. So yeah then I might just start to view the whole thing in a different manner but the bottom line is that we are all only human. We all know that one day we have to die. Some girl was boo-hooing as if Michael was her best friend or her brother. She probably had never met him before a day in her life. Now that I didn't think was necessary. Don't get me wrong, I had a fondness towards him myself but life goes on! And seriously, I feel like we all just need to stop trying to make God's of people. There is but one God. And other than him, well let's just say he is the only one that I will bow down to. Happy mylot everybody!

Hi Citychic, to be honest I'm not actually interested in celebrity lives and don't even know who most of them are, I just don't follow it. I will read or watch something about say an actor I really like but it seems to me that most of them are just famous for being famous, or marrying someone famous, without actually achieving anything important in their own right. My young son who had never heard of Michael Jackson knows more than he wants to know about him right now as even here in Greece he is still featuring on the daily news.
