I've gone thru 5 computers since i started dabbling with computers in 1997. My first pc was a gateway pentium 2 40 gb hardrive pc with windows millenium op, then got a gateway pentium 3 120 gb hardrive windows 2000 op, then a gateway athlon 64 250 gb windows xp op, then a custom built athlon 64 dualcore 250 gb hardrive with windows vista, and now an acer laptop 2.5 core 2 duo 160 gb with windows vista. As you can see i loved them gateways. They were pretty solid. Okay so thats my story. How about you? How many pcs have u owned?

Boy I'm feeling old reading all these comments. I can't even count how many computers, I've had. My first was an Apple II back around 1981. No hard drives back then, you booted your OS off a floppy, that is if you were lucky enough to have a floppy and didn't still use cassettes. I was the cool one of my friends because I had two floppy drives and didn't have to swap out my OS disk to run other programs. Wow, the good old days. So let's see, Apple II, Apple IIe, Apple IIc, then my first x86 chipset with the 386, then a 486, 486dx2, 486 dx4. So seven before I got my first Pentium level chip computer.

wow....that bad.....never knew about cassettes...my comp science prof never went back that far with cassettes. The only stuff he talk about was the floppy disks. How much storage did the cassettes use to hold and how much were they then?

No, bad was my buddies who still booted off cassettes, those things were slow. And don't forget; although floppies may seem slow now, an entire OS would fit on a single disk. It didn't take that long to load an os that was under 1 meg in size.

Since dealing with the internet and everything in 2000, I've 3 computers. My first 2 were emachines with Windows XP in 2000 and 2006, now I have an acer pc! This is a pretty good one, though Windows Vista sucks pretty good! Taripre$

Oh yeah, I hear that's supposed to be a good one, though they're still working out all the bugs; right now they say it's suppose to be prone to attacks! Hmm, aren't they all though..? Taripre$

Wow...thinking back on my computers makes me giggle. The first one my family had (I didn't own) was an old DOS computer that's older than I am, I'm sure. It was a really bad computer. Only good to play very limited games on, which is all we ever used it for. And then my mother, the computer programmer, managed to delete Windows off of it, so that ended our games until she put it back on. xD The second computer I ever used was my grandfather's. He got it in 2000 and it was like a revelation from the old DOS. This one actually had INTERNET and that was the first time I used it...lol. It had Windows 98 on it. I think it was a Dell, but I'm not sure. That lasted for quite a while, too. The first computer I really owned is the one I'm on now. I bought it last year for college. It's a Dell Laptop (Inspiron 1525) wich Intel core 2 duo and Windows Vista. :) I love this computer. I'm about to get a new one, too. Well, kind of. Technically this one is my husband's computer, but it's half mine, too. ;) It's our gaming computer. He wanted an alien, but we're settling with a Dell because it's about $1,000 cheaper for what we wanted. :)

yeah...always go 4 cheap ones so you can buy more in the future cuz we tend to hold onto something that we spend more money on than the cheaper ones. And with the technological pace of pcs nowadays....my opinion, its good to buy a newer one every 1-2 years.

Let's see, my very first computer ran on an Intel 386DX processor, then I upgraded it to 486DX, then AMD K6 (I think), then Pentium III, then I started using a notebook that runs on AMD Duron, and now I'm using Athlon Dual-Core. The brands I've owned are IBM-PC compatibles and Compaq (both my notebooks). The brand I've used are Gateway, IBM (only once), Dell, HP and Acer. So I've actually lost count ... :)

The 386 comes in two versions: SX and DX. That was back in 1989-90, and I was using DOS and Windows 3.1 at that time. The only wordprocessor I knew was WordStar. Hey I just remembered that I still have another computer which is earlier than the 386DX. It was a Commodore 64 (a large keyboard) which plugs into the television. Well, I remember playing games with it using a "Datasette" (data in a cassette). And I learnt BASIC Programming Language - the easiest at that time. Yup, I still have the manual and the computer now though it's not working any more :(

Well, I have three. The first one is a desktop, Its actually a Compaq brand. It is still functioning until now but I rarely used it since the processor is quite old already. The next one I have is a Neo laptop. It also okay, but now my son is using it for mostly playing games. What I have right now is a toshiba brand laptop. Its quite good with vista os. Well, I think I'm gonna have to stick with this new one for quite a while since Its really good and very durable.

This is actually my very first computer that I can say mine. Ever since before, I usually use the one at home and there has always been a computer at home to use. Now that I am older, I was able to get a laptop from my dad. Well actually this was his before because I needed a laptop right away and he just bought a new one instead.

I owned at least 2 desktop computer with Compaq and Samsung brand. The latest are 2 laptop Acer and Fujitsu both have Intel core 2duo 2.8Ghz and 1 gig Ram. Bothh run window Vista and Xp. I also bought a external hard drive with 300 gig, to put my movies, music, photos and other important files in case the main hard drives cannot be recover. It serve as my general backup, in case a worms, virus or trojan damage my computer. I also make little repair of my computer such as reinstallation of software and hardwares. As the cost of paying repair is expensive. I get tired of returning it again to the repair shop. I only thankful to my brother who teach me few repair for troubleshooting in case my computer breakdown.

I like to response this discussion that I have tried to remember on past. My first PC, I just build my own. It was running with Jetway Motherboard, AMD CPU, 64 Mbyte of RAM, 7 GByte of Harddisk and OS - Windows 98. Then I just buy Used Compaq PC from My Friend, It is running with Pentium 4, memory 1 Gbyte, 80 Gbyte harddisk, SVGA Nvidia card 128, Creative Sound Blaster, Philips LCD 18", and OS - Windows Xp Home. Then I am buying local brand laptop - BYON, with Celeron, 512 MByte, 80 Gbyte Harddisk, and OS - Windows Xp Home. Recently, I am buying used laptop from ebay, IBM Thinkpad R51 running with Pentium M - CPU, 1 Gbyte of RAM, 60 Gbyte Harddisk and OS - Windows Xp Professional. Totally are 2 Desktop PC and 2 Laptops.

I've owned... oh... 7 including my laptop that broke and I personally never got to use. 3 desktops i've owned have been fried during lightining storms because my parents didn't disconnect the phone line (back when that was the only form of internet) and now I have an old laptop from 2000 or so stored back away with a wireless card for my parents to use, the broken laptop is in my closet for spare parts (like it's small ram cards for laptops or it's power charger) gave my dad one of my two towers to use at his "home away from home" trailer and my gaming tower pc (just modded my case from the "nice" one to a better air cooled case that was older, no need for as many fans now) and that sums up all my pcs, I don't rem the specs of any of them, including the tower I'm using right now, but this one is the only one worth even noting.
