Will We Ever See A World Free Of Poverty?

India

This is one thing that hurts me the most. My helplessness. We look around the world, there is poverty everywhere. Africa,Bangladesh,Pakistan Afghanistan and several other countries. We have the money to manufacture weapons to destroy the world hundred times over. Our technology has taken man to the moon. We have the will and the money to spend on glamour. But we stil dont have an idea how or more appropriately the will to feed the teeming millions with even one sqaure meal a day.Kids and women are dying of starvation. The Red Cross is doing it best to help people in need. It is said that if only the world's richest seven people join together, poverty can be eradicated from the face of the earth.. Why are we so insensitive to the sufferings of others? When we go to bed, everyday with our belly full, have we ever thought of the millions who go to sleep not even with clean drinking water. Will we ever see some miracle happen, by which those who matter, will join hands to put an end to this misery and suffering of people around the world? Or will we remain as cruel as we are forever?

That will remain a dream alone.Actually it is the communist's idea to dream a world like that.Everything for everybody and there should not be any economical difference between anybody. There should not be any stores and only we are given rations. That means the boss and the servant have to enjoy the same thing. How can it be possible? Then nobody will get motivated. The result will be a lazy world. So,this type of poverty will remain in this world.Cheers!

I don't think a super computer can be good solution. What is possible is open doors to all and give each and everybody the chance and let us see how they perform and come up in life.Even great successors go ashes due to their bad habits and malpractices.Sometimes over confidence kills them. So,basically morals should be taught to everyone and people should accept what they have first and consistently struggle hard to come up in life. Then everybody will be happy despite their economical status.Cheers!

i think we will never see a world like that. it's even hard for any country to be totally free of poverty. the richest countries in the world like the US, Japan, UK, etc. even have the poor among them. some are even homeless and cannot eat three times a day. it will never exist. if only every individual will share their wealth to everyone then that could happen. but there is no such society like that. it's impossible to exist as people are innately greedy.

There is some justification for ur pessimissm. But lets be optimistic. May be we will see some sort of a revolutionary idea to tackle this problem..thx

optimism is good but reality is hasher i would like to hear your opinions on how to alleviate hunger and poverty. if you have any idea on how a society can totally eliminate poverty then i would gladly listen to it. if you ask me, the only time that there will no longer be poverty on earth is with Jesus Christ's second coming. that is after all revealed in the bible. but, i'm pretty sure talking about it will be out of topic for this discussion. have a great day!

I am very sorry to say the truth. I honestly don't think that I can see a world free of poverty. One of the main aims of all the governments across world is to bring down poverty and eliminate poverty, but we have seen that it keeps going and we have to succeded in that yet.

To tackle poverty we need to strike it from several angles. Apart from ploughing funds, we need to turn off the tap of producing kids at this rate. Both cant happen side by side.. For this we need a determined government thx

this cycle will never stop preethaanju, as long as there are selfish people, those who love money for their own. greedy people, those who dont want to share... this will never end. there are so many people that are greedy for wealth and power and everything. you know what i hate most, is when those people that have much and they eat in some restaurants or fastfood, and have many left overs, what a waste. and to think there are streetchildren outside. these people dont even think of the less fortunate as long as their belly is full.

yes i have seen in India how people waste food especially in marriages and other functions. The greed to eat more than they can take and eventually to throw them into the dustbin.. thx for being so sensitive to a serious issue

If it is to happen it will not be anytime soon, people are wayy to selfish to donate their money to help these people living in poverty. You'd be suprised at how much people think about themselfs over other human beings that are living in this poverty. When it comes down to it people will steal someone elses food to survive vs sharing the food.

yes the good intent to share is slowly becoming a forgotten virtue. Arent we supposed to be better in helping others with all the genius in us? we just are becoming tooo insensitive thx

I would love to see world without poverty. But now a days I feel that "begging" is becoming a "easy to earn" profession :-). We always cannot blame the rich for the country's or world's proverty. Even if people are offered jobs, very few make use of the opportunity. The rest neglect doing hard work. There are lot of options for people to stay away from poverty, but how many of them take steps to eradicate povery from their lives. I think it is in the hands of the poor to kill poverty and step forward for some better options to work. Many feel happy to lead their life the same way they are used to. Rich or middle class can only help them for a while. The poor should try to come out of it.

yes we all love to see a world free of poverty. Yes there are some who exploit men sentimentally. Some beggers are habitual. But we must remember one thing. Most of these people who beg are illiterate. While some are prepared to work for a dignified living, they just dont possess a skill to stand independent. Sure beggers are partly to blame for their plight. But it is the obligation of the literate and the rich to give them a push and kick start their life into wealth and happiness. thx

I think that people should really take care of their money. If each country takes care of their money in better ways, even to each individual person taking good care, we can make an economy that the world can be proud of. It's sad to see so much poverty, and hear of poverty stricken countries. Those who go to these countries know and see more then those who don't. Those who live there are even worse off with feeling the effects of no money every day.

here it is not because of lack of money that there is poverty.. It is only because the people who have enough are too tight fisted and not willing to let go of their wealth for the sake of the poor thx

i doubt there will ever be a world without poverty because of all the greed that goes on and because it seems that the people who have the most give the least. i am not well off by any means and yet if i have extra of something i will give it to someone who needs it. or if something is still in good shape and i know somene could use it i give it away rather than throwing it away. also i think that as long as people have the attitude that it is not their problem things will never change. i know alot of people who have never really sruggled before are seeing things in a whole new light now with the economy the way it is and it has given them new perspective on how many of us have been living for years despite working hard and never giving up.

Cant generalise that people who have more give less.. if that were the case people like Bill Gates wont be contributing to many researches being conducted on cancer and Aids around the world. Yes the rich and the famous need to more and do it united to take this scourage out of our planet thx

As long as greed and laziness exists, that will never happen. Not all rich people plan to share money with people other than their own family. The truth is poverty will be part of us until the end of the world.

Yes so long there is greed there is very little hope to see poverty go.. tx

Theoretically, that is possible, because we definately have the necessary recources for that(so everyone could live more than decently). We even have enough money, but they are not 'honestly' shared.
• India
28 Jul 09
yes in theory it is possible. it is possible in practice too provided we all join together in an unselfish deed to stop a halt to this...thx

It is a difficult question to answer here. We hate to see people always suffering everyday of their lives, but we can't do anything else, except watching them suffer. Our world is never been fair to everyone who inhabit on it. Some get rich, while others get poor and poorer. That is our lives.
• India

Yes the rich get richer and the poor poorer.. how sad that even though nature has given us everything we just dont have the mind to share thx

Poverty happens in every country especially in India (no offense to you), Indonesia and Africa where the population is either too great or the economy is bad due to mismanagement of government, or both! Don't get me wrong, even countries like Malaysia, UK, US, China have poverty too. This world will never be free from poverty as long as the governments of each country do not have good policies. China, for instance, tries to have 1-child policy but it didn't go down well. First and foremost, the world's population has to come down or discourage people from having too many children. This of course will cause protests by various human rights organisations. Secondly, governments should step up measures to overcome poverty due to overpopulation. We have lots of wealthy people, wealthy countries, wealthy businesses. What have they done to eradicate poverty? I seriously don't know. All I know is these people earn more money. Yes, it's all the HUMAN factor... greed, selfish and not so helpful.

U hit me right on my head.. I intentionally ignored India from the list, because i didnt want to spit on my own face.. yes there is poverty in India too. But it is not where poverty exists that matters. The pain of an hungry man is the same everywhere. we need to find something to solve this problem fast thx

A reduction in poverty is possible. A total eradication is not. In my country, the poverty rate was reduced from a high 58% to a figure that is less than 10%, after more 3 decades. Once, eating proper meals was not possible for some families, but now less suffer such fate. But there are still those who don't have proper incomes. Why poverty would continue? New disasters, corrupted leaders, global climate change etc. These can contribute to the reason.

yes if ur leaders managed to bring poverty down from 58 to 10 percent, surely its not impossible to bring it to nearer zero if not zero..thx

Poverty is a major issue in many developing and under-developed countries. One can do nothing much about this, unless our politicians and governments take a strong stand towards corruption. The rich becomes richer and poor becomes poorer. I wish that changes.
• India
26 Jul 09
yes its more severe in developing countries. One another reason i find for this is the huge investment on un productive things like weapons.. hope commonsense will prevail...thx

The other major problem in the developing countries is the selfishness and corruption of our leaders. They do not care about the people's well being but they only want to enrich themselves.

There will always be poverty. Simplistically what happens it that there are a billion people in the world and agriculture and farming improves to feed all these people. Then there are a billion more, and it gets harder to feed the teeming millions. And then there is a billion more, then a billion more, then a billion more, it never stops. Until there is some sort of equilibrium of people to resources there will be those that are left out.

Well it will never be extinct unless the world fights for it as one unit......in my country the politicians earn more than their salary, the opposition fight against the good that is being done by the leading party(that's because they wont earn anything from it)......everybody is selfish......and is interested in filling their own bellies.......how can you expect that the country will progress like this....... If you see most of the European countries the people there get free education, the old people are taken care of......and hence they have a good life......if only the political leaders of poverty stricken countries try and make things work in the favor of the people the country would have been so much better by now....... well we can just hope and pray that things get better in days to come...... Have a nice day !!!!

Yes it is greedy thats the cause for all the poverty. Mahatma Ghandhi once said- there is enough in this world for everyone's needs but not enough for everyone's greed. How right he was..thx

Unless we eradicate jealousy and greed from each one of us, we won't care for others needs. Kill the devil in us. Let our children grow with better human values. Let us all be good to everybody, irrespective of religion and location. If such values are instilled in everybody, then perhaps a day will come when there will not be any destruction of humanity and poverty will be totally eradicated and happiness will be allaround to be seen and felt. Earth will become heaven. Nothing is impossible for human.

Yes jealousy and greed.. but will these two traits ever vanish so long there are human beings surviving? May be we will still find a way to eradicate poverty inspite of these two evils.thx
