The world's a scary place any more

Do you ever get scared leaving your house to just go to work or the store? Over the weekend they had a bunch of shootings and some home invasions here in Vegas. Sometimes I wonder if I make it through the day without something happening to me. You shouldn't have to be scared to leave your home to go anywhere but lately things are bad. But I guess you can't just hide at home all the time. Do you ever get scared leaving the comfort of your home?

I suffer with depression and anxiety issues, but I force myself to go out, I am not sociable and I don't like mixing with people but I enjoy exercise so when I do go out I go to the gym, I prefer to walk as I don't like getting on the bus, I feel safer to walk. You do have to be on your guard and we are always double checking that we have locked up the house at night and when we go out. You hear of so many burglaries, attacks and assaults. The trouble is that the justice system doesn't work, the punishments are no deterrants and if people are caught for crimes they are not punished severely and get away with it to continue hurting people. I also blame technology as well, back in the 50s and 60s the world was a much safer place and certainly a happier place too where everyone looked after each other and you felt safe in your home. I don't think we'll ever have that again and it just gets worse, when the world has become a dangerous place it makes everyone feel anxious and stressed out. If you don't leave your home for fear of going out, it then becomes a prison and you feel caged in, so what is the solution? You have to go out but you cannot relax and you just want to get where your going and hope that nothing will happen on the way there or the way home again.

That's all you really can do. I'm always very cautious about my surroundings and if something doesn't look or feel right I avoid it.

I suffer from social anxiety and don't want to go out sometimes, but I don't live in a place where there are shootings so I can understand your fear. The risk of being stabbed or mugged is not very high in the part of England I live in either it's worse in the big cities. Also try to remember the media often make things sound worse than they really are too, the incidents you mention are probably quite rare really they just want to make a good news story.

I'm glad you live in a safe place. My side of town is not as bad as some parts of Vegas.

I think, everywhere now is scary specially in big cities. People are becoming crazy maybe because of hardship. This is the effect of our bad economy. People are becoming sick mentally and emotionally. I would say, it is not much in the country area. It is peaceful in the country. You can seldom hear killings and theft of some sort. I love the country living.

The world is a crazy place, but you can not live your life afraid to live in it. Just take all the precautions you can. Try shopping in the day and not at night. Keep your doors locked and put a stick in your sliding glass window. Buy some mace and keep it on you. I am in the DFW area and there have been a lot of those reports on the news as well. I just take all the precautions I can but I do not live in fear.

I've always been fearful, but I don't let it stop me. i do tend to stay inside if i hear of robberies going on in the neighborhood. This last weekend there was three robberies and three different banks and so I stayed in til I knew that they caught them. It was only because it was right down the street from where I live.
