Where did you get your student loan from?

I'm curious to know where a lot of my fellow myLotters are getting their student loans from. Did you get yours through a bank, a credit card company, or through the government? What kind of loans do you have out? And did you need a co-signer? I tried applying with US Bank, which I hear is good with student loans, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'm in desperate need of a loan for school. Where'd you get yours from?

I got some of mine through FASA, pell grant, state grants, then when I had to take out my loan it was through Sallie Mae. I would try and see what other financial aid resources you may qualify for and see if the school has need based grants or scholarships before you take any loans out. For me, I did need a co-signer for some companies so I couldn't get them.

If you're going with the government's financial aid - then you don't need a co-signer. You just need to apply through the school. Different schools offer different financial aid packages. I do suggest going with the government IF you're low-income because they will give you a low rate. If you're not low-income - you're better off with a private lender because you can negotiate a rate. At the time when I was applying for financial aid/student loan - my parents weren't making a lot of money. So I got a good rate on my loan. Now that they're making a fair amount, my sister can't qualify so she's going with a private company. Good luck!

I got my study loan from a local bank. In my city, almost every bank offers study loans, some are more competitive than others. I'm still servicing my loan though I've graduated for 4 years. Some of my classmates loaned from the government, which is basically money set aside by the government for their parents retirement. I am not sure how easy it is to get study loan in your country but it is quite easy to obtain study loans in my city as long as we provide all the necessary documents. On the other hand, getting personal loan is much more difficult.

It was my mother who inquired from the local office of our Department of Education back in 1980. I was able to get to college and graduated from a five year course through our government's Study Now Pay Later Plan. I got the loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines, and i have paid it back with interest. If not for my mother's determination and loving support and without that program i don't know where i would be now and what i may have become.
