I know one of the reasons I cant get hand tattoo's is due to sanitary reasons. But I mean, why couldnt I get that, just wear gloves. Oh, and how do YOU feel about tattoos?

i've thought a bout getting a tattoo but i'm afraid it will hurt so... personally, i would not get my hands tattooed. i would get it somewhere that i could cover it up if i needed to. and yeah i think you would have to wear gloves for sanitary reasons.

You should get one! It doesn't hurt that bad, I promise.

Heh. It's not exactly the most comfortable feeling in the world. But it's totally bearable if you want the tattoo bad enough. I would rather sit through an hour of uncomfortable than never get all the tattoos I have and love.

My husband was making a funny face & squeezing my hand when he got his tattoo! I asked him if it hurt & he said not really. That sure didn't make me want to get one!

I don't mind tattoos as long as a person is not covered in them. My husband has a tattoo & the only time you see it is if he is shirtless or wearing a sleeveless shirt. One thing to think about with getting a tattoo on your hand is that it might affect you getting a job in the future. Some employers might look down upon their customers seeing your tattooed hands.

That is true too. I have a bunch of tattoos, but I made sure that if I just wear a long sleeve shirt, they're all covered. I live in a city that doesn't care very much if you have tattoos and piercings, even if you work in a professional place, which I don't (no kitchen cares what you look like), but I don't know where I'll live ten or twenty years from now, and in some places, I want to cover them.

see that's what more people should do...get them in places where you would be able to cover them up if needed.

I doubt that I'd ever get a tattoo because I don't like needles. Although, if I were ever to get one, it'd be the fake ones. If I were to get a tattoo on my hands, it'd be a henna tattoo. I think that type of tattoo is of the hindu culture, maybe? I'm not sure on that one.

Tattoos to me are a single form of self expression. I have always felt that way. Your body is YOUR body, and how you choose to dress it, including accessories like body jewelry and tattoos is a personal choice. I do not feel that it ever has to do with another person, or that someone else's view, opinion, or bias against it should change or affect what you want or decide to do. Like I stated in another discussion, everybody has the choice and right to do what they wish with their own body. I would never tell someone they HAVE to get a tattoo, but neither should that person have any right to tell me I cannot, or attempt to prevent me. My life is my life, your life is your life.

I'm not sure where you live, but I know a lot of people who have tattoos on their hands. I think you just have to find the right artist. One drawback to a tattoo on your hand is that it fades really fast, even if they do a good job. Some artists might not want to do it because they would have to touch it up every couple of years. Also, it would be really hard to keep away from things during the healing process. I recently got a tattoo on my shoulder, which I thought would be easy to keep safe, but I still messed it up a little at work while it was healing.

May I ask how you messed up your tattoo? My husband has one on his arm & he wore sleeveless shirts & kept ointment on it the whole time it was healing. I can't remember how long that was now, I couple of weeks, maybe?

I work in a pizza kitchen, and when it was in the stage where it's peeling, I still had to go to work, and the strap of my bra rubbed against it and peeled it off too soon. Now that it's fully healed, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. If you look really closely you can see a couple places that are lighter black, but if I get it touched up it will be perfect.

I know several tattoo artists who flat out refuse to tatto on anyones hands, faces, and some won't tattoo on the neck either. They say the reason is that these are areas that are to hard to conceal or hide. I have several tattoos. I like them. However mine are in places that can be concealed for certain occasions.

Yes, I'd like to get one - call it a mid-life (well, LATE mid-life) crisis . I have to wear a short sleeved uniform top for work and we are not supposed to have tattoos that show so the hands would be a no-no. I'm told its least painful on fleshy areas but there doesn't seem much point in having one that no-one would ever see so I guess it'll be the upper arm.
