Since i was in school, every year in our physical exam/check-up i was always told i need glasses. Of course i never listened. One of my eyes was very weak compared to one eye, so i can read perfectly with one eye, i didn't get glasses. But this year, i started having headaches, and the doctor told me i can't run from glasses forever, it was causing me headaches. So i got a pair of glasses but i don't wear them much. waittt.. i have an excuse.. firstly, after wearing these glasses for a few hours, when i take them off, my eyes feel very weird. like weak, tired, too exposed. My eyes get weaker more, i could read perfectly before wearing these darn glasses secondly, i feel this sudden panic feelings that if i wear these glasses my eyes will get worst, i don't want to wear them always.. I got another specialist appointment coming up next week, i really want to tell the doctor, i'm not wearing these glasses. it is doing more bad then good. What should i do? what should i say, the doctor ..erm.. he is kinda scary..? help me out here? should i just give up and wear these glasses? but i panic.. did i mention i fear my eyes getting weak? yeah.. i might have hinted.

For heaven's sake, follow the doctor's advice and wear glasses.I am wearing one from my school days.I had little sight defect at that time but the doctor prescribed to wear one as I was studying then. With the sight good at one eye,you can get a balance for the other eye and read neatly. But that is an extra strain for it.So,you are feeling pain in it. If you start wearing the glasses continously, this problem will disappear. Why are you hesitating to wear one?If you feel uncomfortable go for contact lens at the least.Cheers!

Don't hesitate. There will be some hardships for the eye to adjust with the wearing of glasses. But in due course you will feel good with it and the eye sight will not get affected more. So,just don't avoid wearing glasses. It will sure do good for you.I am speaking out of my own experience.Cheers!

lol. you sound like my mom. hehe. the fact that my eyes get so tired and weak after wearing it is really scary to me. i mean not just a few minutes after i take off the glasses, but generally, the whole day. I was all good, then this doctor gave me glasses that is doing more bad then good. of course i'm hesitating, its ruining my eyes... appreciate your advise.

I guess this is the first time I've came across someone with one weak eye, but I have been wearing glasses for 13 years or so and I used to watch the TV too close and now I use the computer a lot, so my eyesight has gotten bad from those. I do remember hating my glasses and how much they made me drowsy and gave me a headache when my degree kept getting higher, but it's something you eventually get used to. It's a slow process especially if you give into the uncomfortability and pain, perhaps you should see an Opthomologist and speak about if you're a good candidate for LASIK in the future. After, wearing glasses for several years, some of us resort to those and because one of your eye is weaker, it might be something to look into also with the modern technology which wasn't available years ago, it's worth it I say.

how old are these glasses? perhaps your eyes have changed since then? anyways, you need to stand up to the doctor and take charge of your health care. if you do not, no one else will! write down what you want to say and practice, sounds weird, but it will make it less scary.

Eye Chart - eye chart
First, wearing glasses will not make your eyes weaker. In fact, wearing them is healthier because the eyes aren't all worn out from trying to focus constantly. Second, when you first start wearing glasses, it will make your eyes feel weird. That is normal. You need to ease into them by wearing them for only a few hours a day and then gradually working yourself up to wearing them for a full day. Wear them until they start to bother your eyes and then take them off. Just be sure to try to wear them more and more as time goes on. I have worn glasses since I was in 4th grade and contacts since I was in 8th and I am now 19, so I know what I'm talking about. I felt the same way as you did when I first started wearing them, but I am fine now and my prescription hasn't changed much in all these years. Plus my eyes are equal, so the change is just a genetic thing, meaning that wearing the glasses/contacts hasn't damaged my eyes at all. If they did, my eyes would probably have different prescriptions. If any of that makes sense. lol. Anyways, you don't need to worry about it. Your eyes will be fine. Happy Mylotting and have a fantastical day!!

Gotta say, I was given the old "you need glasses" check when I was nine or so. But my vanity wouldn't allow it and my eyesight was fine until I hit my forties. That was when everything started to blur. Have since found out that I am long sited and only need glasses for reading things up close. Not a bad thing. Have a really funky pair right now. Well, actually, they're more chic than funky. Definitely more attractive than the line-up from the sixties. Anyway, you can get other opinions. Go see someone else. Someone you feel comfortable with.

many people have been told they need glasses huh... i wonder why. it could be money these people want. but that's seriously bad, trying to make others wear glasses and weaken their already fine eyes. in my case.. i guess i do need glasses. my headaches are mainly because of my eyes. thanks for sharing. :)

Hi I have been wearing glasses from the age thirteen and I would like to say to you that you should try to wear your glasses. For me it was relief when I received my glasses because at school I didn´t see what the teacher wrote to the board and I had all the time headaches because of trying so hard to see. Even Tv I had to see from the floor and about 30 cm away from it. But that changed when I got my glasses and also the headaches didn´t come so often. And your eyes don´t get worse if you use glasses, this happens if you don´t use them; that is what I have heard and I believe it.

oo.. now that you mention it, since wearing my glasses i can't see the board much either... before this it was ok if not great. signs that my eyes are weaking. hmm.. but i've heard it many times that glasses do weaken eye sight. we'll agree to disagree then. lol. thanks for sharing.

Two things. First, it takes awhile to adjust to glasses, it even takes awhile to adjust when the prescription changes in strength. Secondly, I don't want to scare you because if you need glasses, you're not seeing well, but I have read more than once that using glasses weakens the eyes because they depend on the help from glasses. That's why people's eyes keep getting worse. At the same time, I've known people whose eyes got better instead of worse, so I don't know if there's anything to it or not. Also, your eyes may seem weak or worse because you're adjusting to the glasses and realize how badly you see without them. That's not much help, is it? :) I would say maybe wear them for a month or so, then decide.

Hi...dex I am wearing glasses from the last twenty five years. Even one of my is very weak than other one. I had no problem of reading or watching the TV. But the letters of a long distance will not be clear and the objects cannot see properly. So when we are walking or travelling it will give strain to our eyes. In such cases there is a chance of developing it as squint eye. So it is better to wear a glass . There will be irritation for a week . Later it will be ok. Wish you all the best

i also have been wearing glasses since school when i was in eight grade. I actually though wearing glasses was cool and wore my mother's glasses to make sure doctor would prescribe one for me..lol. but now i don't like it. Well my glass power have increased only little since i had worn them. But its completely same since 3 years. Maybe because i do regular eye exercise. I also heard that yoga can cure your eyesight. Maybe you can find more about it. If it doesn't completely remove your glasses it certainly maintain your power. you can also try contact lens if you don't like glasses. well all the best and happy mylotting dex1007

I was wearing eye glasses when I was in my secondary school. But after I realized that I really look like a nerd, I decided to shift to contact lenses. However, my doctor advice me that my eyes are too sensitive to wear contact lenses. I decided to practice not wearing glasses and I even deveoped my sight. I actually love how I look now because I can handle myself even if no glasses. Keep posting. Happy Mylotting. Have a nice day. Best regards, Jeff

If the doctor advice you to wear glasses means, please wear it. Try contact lenses with prior prescription from the doctor. Glasses will get practised if it is all the day. I am wearing for more than a decade. Not really bad. Infact it gives me a nice look. LOL... Dont panic. Nothing to panic here. Have a nice weekend with your glasses.. Cheers..

lol. its just something new.. maybe that's why i'm panicking. i've always been very sensitive when my eyes are concerned. i don't think contacts are an option in my case, i can never stick my hand in my eye. lol.

You should tell to your doctor what you really feel.I know what you feel and we are closely the same situation here but the doctor advice me not to wear glasses he says that I need to undergo surgery..That was so shucking!! and I need for a second opinion. so I consult to the other eye specialist and he advice me not to undergo surgery..now I am so confused.I have feeling that the first doctor only wants our money..If I were u I'm being honest with my feelings and u should speak out don't be afraid to your doctor he/she wont eat u besides your paying him for the consultation right?!

yes, you can't trust doctors 100% these days. I'll try my best to open up to my doctor. haha. thanks.

I don't think this is permanent. I've had glasses for about 7 years and recently started wearing contacts. Yes the eyes feel slightly 'weak' if you take the glasses off but this is only because you're not used to it, i don't think that there is any real damage done. I say this because when i'm wearing contacts now i don't really feel any weakness or anything, it just feels normal. by the way, contacts are AMAZING (just a little bit fiddly to put on/off to start with)

I can't.. i once had an eyelid surgery.. something growing on my eyelid, since then i'm very sensitive with my eyes. i don't think sticking my finger in my eye and putting on and off contacts will be easy. lol. but thanks for sharing.

I have been wearing glasses for as long as I can remember, you should tell the doctor what is happening because maye the prescription needs to be fixed. One time they messed up my prescription and I was getting headaches from wearing my glasses. Also, maybe you need to let your eyes adjust to the change of having to wear them. I sed to not wear mine and now I need them for everything because my vision kept getting worst.
