Would you eat 7 meals and at least 15 eggs a day?

Eggs! - Eggs, eggs and more eggs

Hi, I am reading this article about an Indian rugby team who will participate in Commonwealth Games next year October 2010. According to their coach they are underweight as they weigh 72-77 kg on an average whereas the international players weigh between 88 and 100 kg. They need to make up for that weight so he told them they need to eat 7 meals and at least 15 eggs a day! "I have told them (his players) they must eat at least 15 eggs a day, six for breakfast and the remaining nine any time, any how, during the day," the country's South African coach Norman Laker told the Telegraph newspaper on Friday. http://www.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUSTRE56U4AR20090731 This is really funny some people try to lose weight and then some others will have to binge to get more weight. I guess all those eggs will get the cholesterol and is not good for one's health. I suppose he wants them to eat like this for a year, that will surely make them sick in my opinion. What are your views on this? have you ever eaten so much eggs a day? I would love to see your comments on this. Have a great day!

Hi dolphin, it makes you wonder exactly how much this team coach actually knows about nutrition to be giving out advice like this, it is not healthy to eat like this at all, usually they recommend protein but in a variety of things not just eggs. Personally I love eggs but don't have them even every day, they are a quick option when time is short or something light is fancied.

Alice I thought you ate eggs to lose weight, didn't Nigella Lawson's husband eat them every meal for a year or something and shed many stones. Maybe he just didn't like her cooking!

That would be insane, you could harm your body to go from a normal diet to something drastic like that, it should be a gradual transition, but still, that is just an overdose of eggs and other food. Who cares if you weigh less, they can still play rugby, right? Maybe gain a little weight by the deadline more naturally and gradually, not go all out and harm your organs. It's weird how athletes should be very healthy, but in reality they have bad diets and just wear their bodies down, by the time they are old they are basically crippled- it will be interesting to see how modern athletes will be in about 40-60 years after all the steroids (for some), diet issues, and overused bodies (from injuries, and constant stress). I prefer my way of just eating healthy and working out here and there hah, I will live longer!

ah the average age of longevity is decreasing I guess. Well I thought that as well and in my opinion they must train more and be fit, they can also go to the gym and do some weights. Fat will not get you anywhere you need to be strong to play rugby since it is a bit rough.

15 eggs a day ? it's like killing me ! I don't hate eggs but I don't think I can eat so many on one day. 15 is good enough for me to consume a month. Anyway, the diet seems too radical, I don't think I have much confidence on that.

I don't eat 15 in a month either, let alone everyday. I like eggs but only once in a while either boiled or fried.

Oh, it is amazing news to me. It seems terrible for a person to eat so many, even for the special need. I usually eat one or two eggs everyday, meals for three or four. I think this is common method for most of us, and according to science report: a person must not absorb too much cholesterin(which eggs have) in one day, otherwise it will do harm to health a lot.

Of course that's what I was thought as well. surely that will not help their health and will have problems later on in their life if they eat all that for a long period of time. Thanks for your comment!

That is ridiculous! There are many healthy ways to put on a few pounds before you stuff yourself all day! It isn't just the consumption of food but the kinds of calories you take in and how much of what kinds of fats. These players are going to develop some bad habits that will be very hard to break if they are not careful.
