Do You Believe in Ghosts?

Ok this is going to sound really odd. I am a night person I am always up in the middle of the night. Tonight I tried to go to sleep early because I wasn't feeling well. So I lied in bed for over 2 hours, and gave up. I came out to the living room and was sitting in the recliner with the TV off. The remote was sitting on my partner's desk. So I'm sitting there filling out a crossword puzzle online and listening to my head phones, when the TV comes on, and then goes back off. It repeats this about 15 times at random intervals. Each time it is on a different channel. We have lived in this house for about a year now and nothing out of the ordinary has ever happened before. It is a large Victorian mansion and it has a lot of history, some of it less than wholesome, but I have never given it much thought in the past. So my question is do you believe in ghosts? Is there another explanation for what could have happened? I am at a loss. I'm not really freaked out even though I think I probably should be, I am just trying to figure out what could have caused it.

Yes I do. I have had experiences that I cannot understand the one that sticks out most would be from when I was a child. A neighbor and I would play in the woods behind our homes all the time growing up. We were never really afraid of the white horse that we would see back there or the man who would lead her away every now and then. At one point older boys from our street explained that they were ghosts but not scary ones, we of coarse thought they were teasing us. As we grew up we saw the horse and man many times then one day decided we wanted to touch the pretty horse. She let us walk up real close, and we got cold, but some how when we got to where she had been she was gone. Another time we tried to say hello to the man but he never paid us any attention. I am not sure at what point we realized the boys where not just teasing us but fear was never a feeling we had. As we got older we saw them less and less until we just never saw them again. Years later I was sitting with my younger sister talking about spirits and what not and she began telling me how her and her friend would see the horse and it's man every now and then (she is many years younger then me). We decided to dig up some info on where we lived growing up. It turned out the land had been a horse farm owned by one family from 1733 until the late 1850's. There was a clipping from a newspaper about how one of the family's white mares was known to wander away and show up at the school house and would just hang around watching the kids, it was apparently a town joke (the paper was dated 1802) and how the hired man would have to go fetch her from the school yard. We believe this is who we saw, the mare still liked to be around kids as since the only people who saw them where children this made sense. Not long ago we visited and my one child told her Pop Pop that there was a horse in the backyard. I found it comforting to know she was still around.

It's weird the younger you are the more open your mind is so therefore there is a greater chance of you seeing a ghost. Many people say that a childs imaginery friend could actually be a ghost. As we get older and learn many things most people shut the innocent part of the brain off and don't see ghosts anymore. There are some people though that this does not happen with and they continue to see ghosts as long as the ghosts want to be seen. It sounds to me as if you and your neighbour grew up and lost the ability to see ghosts.

Another belief is that child are closer to the spirit world and that is why they can see ghosts. Adults that see them have a psychic power as psychic powers are much more then the ability to see the future.

Funny thing though all but two of us have had other experiences in our adult lives. We have tried to see this horse again in fact we had a little camping trip recently actually because of this post, in the woods where we grew up. There where three of us with spouses and kids in tow. We did not see her at all, but our 3 kids (we had 8 with us) who are between 6-7 years of age where playing together off by the creek and came running back with a story about a horse they tried to touch who ran off. (we did not tell our kids or spouses why we wanted to go back there). Elated we ran off to the creek to find her but of coarse we saw nothing..sigh.. the three of us who went back there have all had adult experiences and believe in ghosts. She just likes kids I think.

I have heard of TV's turning channels by themselves but then it turns out the neigbours have a universal remote control and it's them that are turning it over. Do you have the TV on standby or switched off completley? You said in your post that you live in a Victorian mansion with a lot of history, and some of it is less then wholesome. I'm really interested, would you care to divulge some more information?

Well Jason I'm still waiting to find out more on the history of your house. It's got me really interested. By sharing some of this history someone maybe able to shed some light on the goings on with the TV. Sometimes it can be connected to past events but without knowing it's hard to say. Let us know

That is really freaky thing to happen in your TV set in the middle of the night. I am just curious how old is your TV set. I am thinking that it could be a defective tv set may be the answer why your TV went that way. I have a TV set that when where watching would turn on and off by itself (although not as your case is in different channels). It could be the main board that is really tweaking out on itslef and not a ghost. But I am not saying that it was not a ghost encounter. If I was in your situation I might also think that it is a ghost encounter.

Yeah I am thinking in that lines too. It may be a technical glitch by the TV set you bought. But if it is newly bought then it should have no glitches like that.

I am not normally a paranoid person. I believe in ghosts, but don't give them much thought. We bought the TV just after moving in about a year ago. I am thinking that maybe it was some kind of malfunction in a chip somewhere.... i don't know.

Wow i will sure be freaked out running around and screaming if that happens to me. I think it might be some ghost that is bored and try to put a trick on you, either that, you are too tired and your eyes are playing tricks on you. Or, you are dreaming ;P Did your partner knew about that? maybe your partner is the one that switch on the television? [:

The problem is I'm wide awake. If I was half asleep I would be in bed. I went in the bedroom to tell my partner about it but he was still asleep. He snores really loud but denies it so if he was faking I don't think he would have been snoring. Another odd thing is that I have always heard that animals will try to attack or hiss at ghosts. If this was a ghost, then that isn't true. As soon as the TV came on the first time my cat ran out of the room.

hahaha, your cat is cute ^^ anyway, it might just be your television. Sometimes radiation(infra-red) waves from other electronic items can affect your television. So many some infra-red waves from a nearby electronic items has a similar wavelength as your television remote control, causing it to switch itself on and off in different channels. happy mylotting :D and +1 for your interesting story you share to us mylotters [:

I don't believe in ghosts! It's just a perception! Always have a positive thought and don't believe in these kind of superstitions.

I am a superstitious person. But I am also A positive person, I am not afraid it was a ghost, I am curious if it was a ghost or not. If it was then there has to be a reason for it.

I would say that if you believe that god exists as a symbol of goodness and purity then the evil powers also exists and its quite a 90% sure thing for me as 10% ambiguity is always there.I would like to ask if u have really ever seen one.

Yes,i do believe in them. i think they are real. I haven't actually seen one nor hope I'd see one in the future. I like my ghosts only in television or in the movies or in books but not in real life. But based on accounts of people I know and who are close to me, I think they really exist. What happened to you, i don't know what to make of it. Maybe it was a ghost. what else could explain what happened?

my friends and some of my relatives believed it because they have seen ghosts! me, havent seen one, they just told me stories of ghosts in their school or houses or everywhere they encountered. to see is to believe for me, so i have to see a ghost first for me to believe that they really exists!

yes i believe in ghosts.. thou i have not seen one myself, i feel that they exist. If you are looking for other possibility of what is happening, then i would say faulty tv? some would say that there is irregular current that night and causes a surge in power supply hence it turns on/off. haha much more unbelievable.

When I was a kid my grandma's house was always having weird noises and people walking on stairs and things, but that was 20 years ago i haven't seen anything since then. And this is the first time I've had anything happen in this house so far. I think you're right, the night current causing surges seems more unbelievable than the simple explanation of ghosts. :)

I didn't believe it before. Maybe because i have seen some horrible movies , now i don't deny the existness or admit it. I will be freaked out if this happens to me. There's much in the world you can't explain. Some need time to find the answers and some are mysteries even for scientists. I don't know why that have happen. But i don't think it's because of ghosts.

Yes, I beleive in ghosts. It's possible that the tv turning on could be a ghost, it's possible. But it could also just be interference from other electronics in the house or room.

I never believe in any kind of ghosts or even god. It is just a superstition world wide. Ghosts doesn't exist. the happenings whose reason have not been discovered by science till date, we generally call that is due to any ghost or god or evil power or super power. For example, Raining was due to anger of god of sky according to ancient humane, but now-a-day we all know the exact reason for that. People also in modern age talk about ghosts or god, because these kinds of things probably give him some pleasure or taste of exclamation, as process of thinking in human mind also follow genetic paradigm. But actually nothing happened abnormal. Whatever going on in the world have certain known or unknown scientific reason behind it. Don't think much about that night. There will be some temporary electronic complexity within your TV or remote control buttons or some connection faults.

Honestly speaking,I do believe in ghosts....This one is a real freaky incident.I was scared after reading it.Thanks for sharing it with all of us..But before coming to a decision, you better be sure that where your partner was at the time it happened. I had never experienced such kind of paranormal events.there may be many things that we can't explain with our knowledge. But i do feel a bit spooky and creepy when I heard about such instances.Ghost stories are very interesting. But,from now on you should take care and be alert always.

Just because our eyes cannot see ghosts, it does not mean they don't exist. It's just that we don't have the ability to. Someone said before if we swipe the dogs' eyes and apply some on our eyes, we are able to see. That's why dogs howl. They see. Then again, our eyes never see God physical, do we?

With all due respect,I don't believe in ghosts at all.Maybe it's just your imagination that calls illusion.Ghost is out of question. They don't exist. We cannot explain some natural phenomenon is attributed to our ability to preceive the world.Just take a good rest and have some chocolate.Wish you a great day!
