Childhood Favorite Foods

Here's another off topic subject to get you thinking of something you may not think of too often: Are there foods that you use to love when you were a child that you find gross now? Our tastes can change tremendously as we get older, to the point where we can't even eat foods that used to be our favorties. For me? Twinkies. LOL I could eat the whole box of them when I was a kid. Just recently, while I was working, one of my coworkers had brought a box of Twinkies to work to share. I grabbed one up-remembering how much I used to love them. After the first bite, I was so disappointed-it seemed overly sweet and greasy! I am not sure if Hostess changed their recipe and the quality has gone down, or if my taste buds have changed, but either way, I will probably never eat another one again!!

Yes, for me, it's "Chiki". It's a brand of children snack in my country and it's very popular snack when I was child. I like it, it's salty and my favorite flavor is cheese. At that time, there's a song for chiki and I like to sing that song while eating chiki My babysitter like to gave me chiki it I cried,,hehehe.. I got sick (bad cough) because too much eat it. Then my parents disallow me to eat it anymore. Now when I see it in supermarket, I still wanna buy it eventhough I don't like the taste. It's too salty, too much MSG and it still make me cough..

There are many reasons, but mostly because of injection from my doctor or my mom didn't buy certain books or magazines for me.. 1 pack each day for 3 days can make me sick.. I think it's salty, especially the one with cheese flavor..

What!! I have always loved peanut butter and jelly all my life. In fact, I think I like it better now than I did when I was younger, but it's probably because I don't have to eat as much as I did when I was a kid. I used to only like strawberry jelly when I was a kid, but in the last couple years, I have switched to grape. Yes, it is high in fat and high in sugar, but it is classic, and so simple. Gotta have it!!

I have noticed a lot of the junk type foods are now in smaller quantities (not everything junk though-cereal boxes are quite a bit smaller, yet still the same price now that I think about it.) I am not sure if this recession is hurting companies where they are putting less product in the packages or if the country is fet up with the fattening foods, so the smaller quantities make it look a little better health wise. (Maybe you wouldn't eat a snack if it had 10 grams of fat, but with the smaller portion, 7 grams of fat doesn't seem so bad?? Who knows.)

I remeber during my childhood, I love to eat everything that's sweet. The chocolates, eggpies, leche plan, ginataan ( variety of rootcrops with coco cream and sugar) even the spreads for the sandwiches, I love peanut butters, coco jam and others jams like guava, strawberry and many more. Good I'm not a diabetic.

What are chicken puffs? I have never heard of them before! Are they like chicken nuggets? (Breaded chicken pieces, usually deep fried?)

hi princess my favorite childhood foods, hot dogs with lots of mustard, tomatoes fresh from gaden, watermelon,a big big hamburger with pickles and a slice of onion on it in a whole wheat bun. that is still one of my favorites at my age. also I loved those big shredded wheat bisuits, they with some milk and honey were my most favorite breakfast.hostess cup cakes and twinkies were so good, and now the sound of them makes me feel nauseated. odd our tastes change so much on some things. I still love a good hamburger on a wholewheat bun, and oscar meyers hot dogs with lots of relish, ketchup and Frenchs Mustard, it has to be Frenchs;not the store brand, and mayo has to be ranch dressing from HIdden Valley those I didnt like as as kid. My this is making me starved and its only ten oclock here.

I have a similar experience but with cheese. It's the kind that come in a slice size piece and you get them in a pack. I used to eat them all the time by themselves but I can never do that anymore. The only times I can seem to do that is when I am eating the cheese with something else such as in a burger or pizza and pretty much with anything other than by itself. Perhaps not with bread alone though.

Well, if I understand correctly, you are referring to American cheese, which is aprocessed cheese made with milk and oil? It is one of those cheses you either love or you hate. I like it for grilled cheese sandwiches, and my youngest son likes it, but my fiance and my two older kids cannot stand it either!

Not sure if that's American cheese but what you have described is pretty much it.

You have brought back alot of memories. I guess my favorite was those pocket rocket candy. The candy you put in your mouth and it popped. My sister and I love that candy. O I forgot about the candy ring and necklace. Now, that candy is just to sweet for me to even try to digest. Some of the item we used to eat have changed. For example, salt is just not like it was. You have to really put a lot to get the taste. Thank you for the little walk down memory lane. Keep on mylotting.

Haha, that is so funny that you mentioned the candy necklaces because I used to love those as a kid too! My daughter, who is almost 7, had me buy one for her a couple years ago, and she was just like me when I was her age-munching on her delicious necklace. I couldn't help but take a "gem" from it, as I remember how yummy they used to be-that wasn't as good as I remember either-it was pure sugar, and not a lick of flavor to it. Bummer....another child favorite food gone to waste LOL.

One of my favorite foods as a kid that would make me barf now is cornbread with buttermilk. I ate that stuff all the time. Just the thought of it turns my stomach now. Also as a child I loved chocolate...that never changed! My mother tells me I ate so many carrots my skin got a little orangish. I hate carrots as an adult.

So you put buttermilk over the cornbread and ate like that? I am not a fan of buttermilk, unless it is in biscuits or pancakes. I love cornbread, but I didn't when I was a kid. It is so yummy on the side with ham and beans or chili. Yum!

To eat cornbread and buttermilk properly you crumble the bread in a tall glass, fill with buttermilk and eat with a spoon! Enjoy!

Cheese. I still love cheese. I am going to India this Dec. and when someone told me there isn't cheese I actually pestered my fiance until he showed me the Amul website. i also found out about paneer which is awesome and apparently not that hard to make.

As a child I loved pasta, my favourite being good old macaroni and cheese. To this day I still love pasta. However strangely as a child I never liked sweet food e.g cake, ice cream or chocolate. Then as a teenager waitressing I started to crave sweet food, probably after serving customers dessert after dessert. However thankfully I only eat dessert in moderation as I try and maintain a healthy diet. There are other foods that I didn't like as a child that I have found I quite enjoy as an adult some examples are blue vein cheese and salad. I guess as we grow older our palettes change.

I loved macaroni ansd cheese as a kid too, and I still love it now as an adult! My 2 boys love it too, but my daughter is kind of picky with it, and only eats it sometimes. She would rather a different type of sauce on her pasta.
9 Aug 09
Well my first answer is kind of the opposite, as a child beef repulsed me, i just refused to eat it but now i am older i absolutley love it. Foods i did like as a child include things like honey, my grandad used to give me honey on my toast for my breakfast every morning and now as an adult each time that i eat it i think of my childhood.

That is not uncommon-to have foods become more tolerable as you get older. I used to hate Swiss cheese, which now I love especially rolled up in a piece a salami-another food I disliked when I was a kid.

I don't believe anything has changed with the Hostess Twinkie recipe, but I agree, there are foods that were liked during childhood but not tolerated now in our adult lives. Tomatoes....YUK! Loved them when I was younger, now the closest I get to them is ketchup. Tomato Soup.....Oh let's not go there as the thought alone of that makes my stomach spin. Bacon was another thing that as a kid I loved. I went through a stage where I couldn't even stand the smell of it but now as an adult I love it again. It is absolutely amazing how our tastes change.

I can't beleive you don't like tomatoes! I love tomatoes and use them off both fresh in dinners, and also canned for things like spaghetti sauce, chili, and other casserole type dishes. My oldest son used to love tomatoes so much, I seriously had to buy at least 2 pounds a week, because he would often times grab them out of the refrigerator and eat them whole, like an apple. He still likes tomatoes, but it's been a while since he has eaten them like that.

I found many snacks were delicious when I was a child, but I don't think so today. Perhaps at that time there were no more choices, so any snacks tasted well. Today there are many options. The food is enough. So we become to be picky today. I remember I liked to eat the candies a lot when I was a child. I like the candies today, but I just don't eat so many like before. I love China

When I was a child the lady next door used to make what she called butter cups. It was a piece of toast with a slice of bologna on top and cheddar cheese. She would put it in the microwave until the bologna turned into a little cup full of greasy cheese. We loved them! Yuck the thought of them now makes me gag. Also my taste buds changed after I had a baby. Some of the things I used to love... like sweet and sour chicken... I can't stand! When I was in high school I didn't like mango's but now I adore them. They are the most delicious fruit in the world!!! I especially like them on top of yogurt at the Red Mango. If you haven't tried Red Mango... you haven't lived. So YUMMY, and good for you too.

I can see why the butter cups would be adored by children but not by adults. Bologna seems to be accepted predominantly by children. (Although my kids hate bologna!) I could eat a bologna sandwich every now and then, but after one, I think I would have my fix of it for a while, that most likely the rest of the package would go to waste. And by the way, I have never tried Red Mango. Is that a restaurant?

Of course!!! Weird thing, like my two favorite foods were cheese and pepperoni's when I was younger. Now I can tolerate pepperoni's, but cheese I hate!!! I nearly throw up when eating yet. It's a bit weird because who doesn't like cheese!??
