Hi there people. I just need to rant here to let off some steam! I've always been blogging on blogspot. Today, I've migrated from blogspot to my own domain Dot Com. Such a headache. I've always been using blogger. Now I need to use wordpress. I am such an 'idiot' when it comes to all these. Luckily, my friend is patiently helping me out. As the clock ticks, I am getting a little bit better. Hahaha.. such a headache to be running own domain. To newbies out there, just stick to blogspot if you are not familiar with blogs.. Am I right? Or am I wrong? Sigh..

He he... I can't help, but smile reading the title up there. I am actually wondering why did you switch your blog host? I will upgrade my blog sooner or later, but I will definitely buy my own domain from Blogger. In my opinion, it's reasonable and very user friendly, and you are right as I am already familiar with their system, I won't get a headache like you if I do it in the near future... jk! Anyway, don't worry, you'll get used to it. Just enjoy your new 'house' and have fun blogging. Congratz!

Hi submerryn, you should have stayed with using blogspot. Wordpress is one step up from blogger. Once you are familiar with Wordpress, you will find it has more to offer than blogger and you can add more stuff. If on the other hand you want to really go into website building, then you are more into trouble. You will need to know html, scripts, banners, etc, etc. and it can be very ticky. Just learn Wordpress and stay with it. I use websites, bloggers and also Wordpress. But blogger is the quickest but I can't do fancy stuff with it.

Good day kl_blueknight, I must agree that wordpress is one step up from blogger. The wonders it can do is really limitless. With blogger, it is quite limited. With wordpress, I can do many fancy things. Well, I have a long term planning for my craft blog. That is the reason for the switch. For my personal blog, I still retain blogspot. I am very fortunate to have a very good friend who is guiding me step by step patiently yesterday. My point of view is, if we want to succeed, we need to get out of our comfort zone and try new things. I hope what I've done here will bring something good in the very very near future. Bookmark the craft blog and come again in say, this year end. Maybe by then, you can see what I've achieved. (Fingers crossed!) WIsh me luck!

Did I hear it right or I have read it wrong? you said you have a blog in Blogger, and then you changed and manage your own Domain? which is in Dot Com, so how much to you pay for the hosting? and the domain itself? Then you said, your friend is teaching you Wordpress? For me WordPress and Blogger are just the same, you don't need to pay for them for hosting since you blog freely, only that the common denominator here is that you can monetize both. But when you said you have your own domain, you have purchased a domain site of your own be it .Com, .Net, .Info .Edu, with hosting and control. Which is which? I am confuse to what you have said, but I am happy because you get all the fun while doing your polishing in your own blog. Blogger is a site for newbie just like me, it is easy to explore and manipulate. But Wordpress is the best when it comes to designs of templates and advance features for bloggers. But that is not called a domain of your own. When you get a Domain, you rent it for certain period of time like 1 year or so. And you pay for it also. Happy Mylotting.

Congratulation for your achievement to having your own domain for your blog. I think there's should no any problem if we really understand how a website works. The most important thing to understand is about file transfer protocol (ftp). Well, since you're new, and now you have learnt new thing right? It's good to have our own domain for our website or blog. It's more presstige. People will easily remember our blog's address in this way. Good luck for you. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hi cwong77, Thank you very much. I think you can switch to wordpress anytime you wish. You do not need to pay for it. Only if you wish to have your own domain will you have to start paying for the domain yearly. Oh yes, I've seen many nice header out there. I'm not good in all technicality too. So, slowly we learn, day by day! Good luck to you and happy blogging!

Hi ya Hatley, I was once without a knowledge of blogging too. I just started blogging late last year. Not even a year yet! If you want to start a blog, you can very well do so. You can create your own free blog at www.bloggers.com. It is very user friendly. With just 3 simple steps, you will be a proud owner of a blog. Try it, you wont regret it. It's free.

I have been thinking about getting a domain for my blog, too. And, I also use blogger. Do I have to switch from blogger to wordpress to do that? I was following this one girl who used blogger, but had her own domain. Is that stuff really that hard? I am pretty okay with HTML and such, but I think I am nervous to try to sit down and start from scratch!

Hello rebelmel, It's good that you are thinking of getting a domain. You do not need to switch to wordpress if you dont want to. You can just get your domain and migrate. To make things easier, get your domain from blogger themself. You can actually do that you know. USD10 per year. But having your own domain and still using blogger will be like such a waste. There are many things you can do with wordpress. But only if you have someone to guide you. It's not easy to do this from scratch all by yourself. Blogger has been very user friendly, you'll get SHOCKED if you see wordpress!

Hi Merryn. You've seen my Blogspot blog, right? well, i wanted something that has an identity of its own, so I registered a domain for RM50 and paid RM200+ to have my own address and to host my WordPress blog. Yes, I know that amount is expensive - that's RM12 per month. Anyway, I'm trying to see how I could fully utilise this under-utilised website which I'm paying annually without getting any revenue in return. The URL is in my profile; you could check it out and perhaps throw some ideas and test if my WordPress is giving you any problems. Yes, it was a big headache for me, but thanks to the efficiency of the customer support, all my questions were answered, and they have helped me a lot to ensure I had a trouble-free hosting service. Thanks.
