Differences between laptops

I notice that laptops run on Windows Vista Premium and some run on Windows Vista Basic. I see that notebooks run on Windows XP. I have found that laptops vary in weight. The light and expensive ones can be 1 to 2 kg. Normally priced laptops can be 2 to 3 kg. Notebooks are usually about 1g in weight. Laptops can have 1,2, 2 or 4 GB. Notebooks typically have 1GB. Screen sizes differ from small to large. Prices vary considerably. If you got a new laptop what qualities would you look for? A laptop or a notebook? 1, 2, 3 or 4GB? Heavy or light? Would you carry it in a bag, case or backpack? Do you prefer any make?

I have no idea what the differences are between laptops other than that my sons' and boyfriends' (who have the same type of laptop) are an HP touchscreen and it reminds me of an iphone. I like it much better than the older types of laptops since you can just touch the screen for what you want rather than using a mouse or the keyboard.

when i buy a new laptop i will consider all characteristics before buy it!!normally i consider dimensions or weight but in relation to the configuration so it is normal that if you will buy a lapnet it would be so little and light but the configuration is really poor and so for that laptop should be a bit more expensive but have a much better perfomances and so i would be a bit heavy than the lapnet as well!! so normally i consider the ram..so now i think 4 gb of ram should be good..if i can configure with 8..mmh really high end performances..the disk space i think about 128 or 256 gb should be ok but it should be ssd..such as solid disk space than disks placed on different channels!!a good graphic card..may be an nvidia getforce, the screen resolution, how much of the usb ports or hdmi port as well,sd reader ,optical drive and so on..surely the first things i will be very careful is the processor..the real core of your computer..it should be really good to ensure you that your pc will be really fast and good performances...

I prefer laptop even it's heavier because it has a bigger screen and I feel more comfortable with the wider space esp in the keypad area.

Get as much ram as your can. This is the most important thing because then you will be able to run programs faster. I can not stress how important this is. After this get as big a hard drive as you can afford. I think most laptops come with at least 120GB, which is more than enough. After this everything else is just preferences.

yes there are many laptops which are run on windows vista basic, premium and ultimate. i have the laptop which is running on the windows vista ultimate. i prefer the laptop with highest clock speed, minimum of 4GB of RAM and 1TB of HDD. laptop must have the 2Gb of Graphic card memory. i prefer the laptop with new technologies like bluetooth, wi-fi, gigabit LAN, firewire and E-sata ports and many more features.

Wow, I have always thought that laptops and notebooks are one but now I now they aren't. Thanks for your explanation on this. I have a laptop that I have just purchased less than a year ago. It's 15.4" and it's more than 3kg. I wish I had a notebook instead because I want to carry it with me when I go out. I don't mind if it has more or less memory as long as I can get connected, view and save photos and sometimes watch dvd. Notebook would have been the perfect one for me and not this bulky laptop.

I have 3 laptops. Two of them are Acer and the third is a HP. All are 3-4 years old. But recently I bought another one . Its a UMPC or Ultra Mobile PC. It is sometimes referred to as a netbook. I presumed you are talking about UMPC's when you mentioned notebooks. UMPC's have 7inch, 9inch and 10 inch screens depending on the make. Mine is a 7 inch. preloaded with Windows XP Pro. HDD is 170GB,Random Access memory 2GB, built-in WiFi and video cam. I use it 100% of the time and don't use my 3 laptops anymore. It is so small and lightweight I practically carry it everywhere I go. When its in the carry case, it looks just like a lady's handbag instead of lugging around my usual 2.5 kgs laptop. It works perfectly and suits all my needs. I will never go back to laptops again.

when it comes to nettop there is not much to talk about (in terms of utility). they have become popular only because of the price and size. it is good only for light applications. i do not travel much and i am very much content with my desktop and even if i consider, it would be to replace my desktop only. so weight would not matter, but specifications will have to be on the higher side.

Well, notebooks can be useful in the sense that they're more easy to carry, but they're also typically a bit more limited when it comes to expansion (Not that laptops are too great on that field though). Personally though, if I was to get a new laptop, I'd go for something with at least 2GB of RAM, 3 maybe. I plan on sticking to 32bit XP for a bit more, so, the 4th GB isn't too useful. A decent hard disk, 320GB at least. A good VGA wouldn't be a bad thing, but, it's not a gaming computer I'd be looking for so it wouldn't need to be top end. Light, of course... there's no point in a heavy laptop, however, weight is inevitable with a larger screen, and I'd like 17" at least. And obviously I'd carry it on an appropriate case.
