Newbies Section: what do you think?

Philippines

I was just thinking, do you think it would be good if there is a newbies section here wherein the new members can introduce themselves and the old members can greet and welcome them? Other forums have this section on their board. And it's a great feeling when the oldies would greet and give their warmest welcome to the newbies. It would inspire the members a lot. A member can create just one discussion each, just a sort of introducing themselves to the site, like how they got here, who invited them, or they just searched it, and a little about themselves. what do you think, would this be a good idea?

I guess, even without the newbies section, most of them will tend to introduce themselves via a discussions.. hehe ^_^ IN a way, they get to earn, as well as being welcome by whoever responded to that post.. hehe BUT then again, with a newbie section, it might not be a bad idea after all.. For at least, newbies will know where to go, and how to start off.. haha =D IT's a faster way for them to get around in mylot, rather than searching for ways to get started.. hehe

hi kun! yeah some newbies start a discussion in the mylot section, but most of the time it would be hard for them to navigate the site and find some friends. with the newbies section oldies can even give them some tips to earn more here!

hi red___amethyst I think thats a fantastic idea, wonder why'mylot hasnt thought of that before. You newbies could get together a nd we olderones could be a welcoming committee and give you a helping hand learning all about mylot. it could be a lot of fun as we all exchange names and ideas and say hello to each other.I know I could have u sed some help from older ones when I first came here.I was completely lost until one of the older members gave me some helpful information. so we could all get together and it would be fun.

Hi Hatley, even without such section u all have been great with us. Mysdianait told me when Sharon Bucks loads her tasks and I gained quite a bit. Sharon Bucks has helped me a couple of times. And Mike has been warning us off and on about what kind of discussions would have mylot admin breathing down our necks. So I feel quite welcome actually. :) I wouldnt like to be differentiated as somebody new out here. :( I just want to be accepted. Even u have given such wonderful comments sometimes on my posts. I'd feel discriminated! But if all are indeed ok with that, I guess u all have something better on ur minds.

Ya know - I think that is a brilliant idea! I can't believe I never thought about it. lol Maybe you should email Mylot with this suggestion. It could be like an automatic interest when they first sign up!

hello Jennlk, That's a good idea also, to make the newbies section as an automatic interest. And maybe there are links for the guidelines, so the members won't miss reading it. thanks for responding!

It's a good idea but I am thinking if this section is only about introducing and learn on how MyLot system works - then it will be zero counting post are, means all post here are not accounted as your posts (as seen on brackets besides our name) and MyLot will not pay for every response posted there. I guess it may be improved if several successful myLotters come up with few testimonials about myLot and wht they love myLotting. Their testimonials will be pinned as default topic and the newbies are welcome to comment and interact on their posts.

Hi Amethyst, I have to agree, I think it would be a great idea. I would have loved to have had a place to come and introduce myself, and then to see what other members were like from what they said there. It would probably have made me feel at home much quicker as it would have felt more normal to just go and say hi. I never felt it was right to do that on any other boards so met people about asking about how mylot worked, so it took a few weeks to feel really welcome and like I belonged. Away from my own experience I love the idea of welcoming other new members as well and helping them out. it would be fantastic, and will help me see whether they could be potential friends too. I hope mylot likes this idea and adds that board or interest Dranz

Hello DCLehnsherr, some of the new members here would be so lost when they first came here. Actually, the first time I visited mylot, I didn't like it, I just got confused with the layout, and there was no one to guide me. that's why I didn't register. good thing a friend told me she would help me here, that's why I decided to join. and I guess, I did a right decision. thanks for responding

That isn't a bad idea. I think myLot could improve their website in many ways. A search option to find other memebers couldn't hurt anybody. Or an english dictionnary to help out members who have trouble expressing themselves in english. I'm just giving examples. But your idea is also very helpful I think. Because the newbies are the fututre of this site. Take care

You mean as an interest? Because you do realize there is a tab that says "new user" to the right? Underneath where it says photos and earnings? in between "no responses" and "best responses"? Didn't know if you knew. I like that tab, I go there occassionally and greet the newbies. Wow, I remember when I was a newbie... I can't believe it. I remember 3 years ago I was sitting at the computer late at night and early in the morning writing about the new life that was kicking the heck out of me inside. Awaiting for May to come, sharing every doctor's appointment and ultra sound. Wow! I can't believe that baby is going to be 3 in May. I met so many cool and helpful people. Do you remember when you were a newbie?

Hi dramaqn, No I did not notice the new user button (note to self - get eyesight tested). Once you pointed it out, however, I scooted over and had a look. Primarily it kind of looks like just more discussion posts to me. From newborn to 3 in your child's life is like the blink of an eye, isn't it?

We already have one of these. The tab is new user. It may need to be extended but it is a way to see who is new.

Yes, I think that's a good idea. And it would be even nicer if mylot would reward newbies for making an introduction of at least four lines long. I think 10 cents would be enough reward, but it would be better if it would be a bigger amount of course. This would ensure that new members would introduce themselves properly.

I believe that would be a good suggestion. It would serve as an incentive to newbies who joined to do more posts here and participate.

oh, I think I am just as lazy as you. I don't read long FAQs hahah, unless I want an answer to my question, I just jump around the sections of the FAQs.

I think that is a terrific idea. They have a mentoring program at another site I was on and the more experienced users could actually get a penny or two every time they helped a newbie. That was a win-win situation. The newbies got a helpiing hand, and the mentors got a posting credit for their help. I am newbie, and I could sure use a helping hand; feeling a little blonde now and again - lol. Off-topic, and forgive my terminology ignorance, but what is a troll? I read that on another post and don't have a clue what it refers to. Good day, everyone

hello red_amethyst, I am actually kind of neutral about the matter; as I personally would value a resource to find out information, but from a logical stand-point I do not believe that such a section is necessary. Unlike online forums like www.twoplustwo.com, archives can actually be researched by key word, unlike the forums where you can only find an article through searching an intimidating archive page. Basically my response if yes and no, I think it would be a helpful section but not a necessary one :P

You may be interested to note that many of us here prefer to respond to the discussions they create, rather than be usurped in their responses by those who can't be bothered to create their own discussions. What is your own particular experience of Greek Life Style I wonder. May I suggest that you follow the normal expected courtesy of either responding in one box on your own behalf, as you have here, or make your own discussion to respond to, rather than land uninvited to respond on someone elses behalf, a sure way to guarantee unpopularity.

I think it could be a good idea. this way newbies can get to know each other. Also it would be awesome if we could have a section that people can give each other tips on how to make money here on mylots, because a lot of new people always ask that; how to make money on mylots and what it's all about.

I think that would be a good idea. And yes I have seen other sites wherein there is a welcoming section for newbies. That would sever as a welcome treat to those who just join the site. We were once newbies. I would love to be welcomed as well.

hello, red, how are you? that kid is probably grown up by now..regarding your topic, i am sorry to say but i may have to dis-agree with you. have you noticed that all discussions of the newbies and oldies are in one place called discussions. there's already some troubled discrimination o some other users not adding a few because they're a newbie. if we allow the newbie section to exist, they might have trouble adding people like us because some are very suspicious and not fond of adding a newbie. i have seen it. no offense but am a bit uncomfortable with the idea.. have a great day

Hi Red, I think that's a great idea. I'll vote for that! :) Us newbies always have a lot of questions. I got a lot of help from oldies on mylot. So, yes I think this would be a great idea. :) Happy MyLotting! Olivia~

Well, as a newbie myself, I would certainly appreciate some help. I stumbled across myLot in an attempt to merge two complete opposites: wasting time and making money. If I'm going to waste time on the internet, why not make a few bucks off it? I rummaged around for a few minutes and discovered that there are many topics that I could post in, so I wouldn't have to force myself to write. It would just come naturally. Granted, I would be interested in receiving a few pointers on how to make my experience a more worth-while (and how to make it more profitable).
