Linux Anyone?

Does anyone here use Linux? If so, what distribution do you use? I've currently got Ubuntu on my laptop and I'm liking it. Slax seems pretty cool, too. --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. The way she projects herself and the fact that she is so obviously vacuous. yeah i say its good but one must have some level of knowledge about computers to be able to install it properly. i did use linux red hat and it needed me quite some time to figure it out and get it running thou there are still some bugs which i cannot really figure out to get it working. greetings. : )

I wonder if it was a long time ago that you tried Linux, because it is quite user friendly now. Of course it does help if you have an alternate machine to use for Linux, because you still need to get used to it, just like you did when you first tried Windows.

One can always dual-boot, too. If you've only got one computer. Also, there's those Live CD's like Slax, Ubuntu, or Knoppix. --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. I agree that it helps to have another working machine close by so that you can quickly and easily look up solutions to get through the initial install and configurations. Otherwise, you'd end up doing a lot of rebooting with the dual boot method.

Hi, I am experimenting with Debian on an old laptop. I like the security, lack of system resources used. I dislike problems selecting drivers, lack of ability to change some things on the fly all the best urban

I'm using Debian--the less pretty Ubuntu; basically the same as Ubuntu since it's based on Debian. I couldn't get Ubuntu to install properly on my older machine; I think the driver for my graphics card was causing problems. In cany case, I got Debian installed on my 8-yr old Pentium III machine and it's rocking now. The Synaptics Package Manager is great too; so easy to add modules to the O/S. If Linux continues to improve at this rate, I can't wait to see what it's like in another 5 years :)

Cool. Is it your primary OS or do you use something else, too? --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. The way she projects herself and the fact that she is so obviously vacuous. I use Kubuntu, which is ubuntu with KDE. I'v used many other sidtributions like SuSE, Debian and Mandrake, but I liked Kubuntu the best. It's simple and works out-of-the box, yet you can customize it like any other linux.

Have you ever heard of Linux and would you ever consider trying it? --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. Count on Linux - Linux Tux with abacus
I have Xandros Desktop 4 installed on my laptop. I have not used the system for very long so I am still rather unfamiliar with it, but it is a useful and stable environment. I have tried Slackware, SUSE 10 and Vectorlinux so far, each one has proved to be a decent system.

Linux is better than Winblows in the sense that it's more secure... among other things... --- --- --- "I certainly think Britney Spears is the devil. I've got Linux Dapper Drake. It works best with my system. I've got Windows XP too cuz my machine has parts that don't like Linux. (My scanner, printer & stuff.) I can't afford to replace them. * As for Ms. Spears, she's not the devil. She just has an 'elevator' that doesn't go all the way up. The people who market her need to be taken to task.
