A technical question? To a techniphobe.

Okay this will gurantee a laugh for anyone who knows me, a new friend just pm'd me asking for a bit of technical advice on a mylot feature. For those who don't know me I'm sure someone can supply the hours it took to talk me through uploading an avatar and a photo. Kind people offer advice on how to copy and paste and then make some excuse to desert me into the fourth hour of trying to talk me through it. No, I still cannot copy and paste a link. The whole thing bores me rigid. So what kind of questions on here have cracked you up to?

learning computer on your own can become fond memories. i don't remember any particular one but initially i did fool around with the computer. on at least two occasions i had to get my computer reformatted. 'cannot paste'..? try UHU...it might work.......

Sunny, there' no point in talking to me in computer language, just try and stick to English or Greek please. How can anyone in their right mind have fond memories for something that's made of plastic? and listen to yourself sunny - Try UHU, it sounds like a kind of milk which doesn't go off but put yourself in my shoes. Totally bored by the whole computer thingymi and someone comes along and says try UHU. It MEANS NOTHING. Nada, zilch, mithen, you are talking computer talk so I don't understand you. Meepos esi katalavnete alo emena teepota. Then mairesi komputers. Okay you may get the point but the Greek keyboard won't plug into the laptop for some reason. Now if anyone could explain how to do that in idiot proof language I'd actually be keen to give it a go.

Are you still talking about computers Sunny. Please spare me, I have to hop across and be nice about bunnies in a minute. Remind me not to post anything technical again as when I answer I'm in a technical stupor. Luckily my good friend Alice has helped out with the bits which would make me glaze over.

hey!...i was just kidding....UHU is a glue and nothing geeky about it. when i recall some of the stupid things i did with my computer...it does make me laugh. like the time my restart button was stuck, i simply opened the cabinet and cleaned the entire thing but no result. then i took it to a technician and it took him an hour to find the problem...we laughed...we still do when we recall that. learning on own is a time taking process and you learn as the need arises. you are just doing fine with the things you need to know....so cheer up and leave some things to time...

No, thank you artistry for inspiring this little piece of rambling, all true I hasten to add, and the reason you could read I'm sure the exasperation in my pm. Now if you do need to know how anything technical works the yellow blob, otherwise known as Mys, in the top box, is the one who guides so well on these technical things, with perfect patience I may add, so send her a F/R, she takes on all who ask. But I do know about the art of mylotting and you really need to stick in four sentences, post count does not count for anything, quality does.

Now you just might not believe me but... none at all. I just remember back to when my son got his first computer. I was scared stiff of it and didn't even want to go near it when dusting as I thought I could upset it. Then I started getting interested, started using it and I will never forget the first time he ran the ant-virus and did a clean up after I had been using it. He called me to watch the screen and the default Windows screen with field and then told me to watch the grass... 'could I see all the garbage that was in the field?' What did I do? I got closer to the monitor and looked umph! We were all new once Thea and I will NEVER forget my first attempts at learning things. I am self taught and go by trial and error but once I learnt that if I upset things I can do a reset... the sky is the limit

Mys, how could you not bring yourself to mention those painful two hours of me loading a photograph with your patient help. I really enjoyed the extra avatars you put on that day. Well I tried to do it again last week, three times on one discussion, and what did I end up with, three Greek flags and no photos. By the way I sort of zoned out in the middle of your technical talk up there, why would you want grass and rubbish all over your screen, I just have a lovely photo of my son stood under some rather fetching plants.

I have my cats now Thea It is amazing what I have learnt to do since then. I can even manipulate chat bots and mess about with HTML now Even my son is not convinced I haven't had lessons

Alice, I actually haven't got a real clue how to clean the thing and I must admit the keyboard is feeling the effects of my yogurt. And Mys, it would be much easier if Mylot just sent me one of those little men round who know how to do thest things, like there were in my office in England. I never once sent a fax as I had people to do those technical things. They enjoyed it. I don't. No one told me before I signed up here that technical things would be involved and one day I will post a list of questions about tabs and lists and things which daily annoy me.

I do not know how to copy & paste either. NOONE would dare ask my opinion on technology because they realize what a dork i am when it comes to the computer & its workings.

Yassou Aunty, why is Alice doing that here, these persistant attempts to make us copy and paste are a strange trait she has. Joking Alice. You are way better than me Aunty as you managed to connect your new monitor, I wouldn't have even bothered to take it out of the packing unless there was someone here to do it for me, and I certainly wouldn't have carried it from the shop to the car.

You bring back memory pal, remember when you are asking how to copy and pasteon myLot? I try patiently to tell you step by step, but you still not figure out and than you told me that finally you ask your son (may be if I'm right, kinda forget the detail) and the boy show you the way. It's fine for me, I am also not very advance on technology, but I like to help other understanding how things work. It feels nice inside

Hello flaredust, were you indeed there on that one, Strongheart actually gave instuctions which I understood there, and my son helped me with the practical side of making everything highlighted at the same time, but I can still only copy from the box above and quite honestly it's just quicker to remember it or jot down the odd word with pen and paper. But kind people here do indeed offer all the time with my phobic tendencies towards technology, and I'm glad to hear you were there with your advice on my first fumble.See though, I mastered smilies.

You wouldn't say that if you knew what technical things I've endured today which has now ended up with me balancing a totally pink screened, and therefore unreadable laptop on my knee, hooked up to the old computer monitor, using the laptop keyboard to type on, it's really slowing my typing skills down a lot because I can't look direct.

Oh yeah thea you have improved, now you can insert the smiley, congratz! It's kinda little bit tricky to find out about smiley's place, because it is hidden not showed up directly in response column. Anyway, keep close to the computer, cheers!

Hi thea, today somebody asked me to save part of the content in a word file as text file. I am lost! I am hoping this discussion will help me resolve it. :)

Hi vandana, why would this discussion help you to resolve it. It should be obvious my now that I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and zoned out completely when I heard the words save and file. Personally I will have nothing whatsoever to do with text as believe it is nothing more than teenage folly and people should learn how to use language in its rich fullness. If you were actually being serious then put a question in the computer bit and someone will come along with a totally incomprehensible answer.

Hi aliceinwebland, thanks a million.:) Is it also possible to change the format within the file? And thea, sorry for hitch hiking. It would be so silly to start a new discussion just for one point. I saw alice clarifying on other problems, so I thought she would come to my rescue as well.:) And she did.:)

I am no computer savvy either but copying a link is simple. Go over the link while pressing the left side of the mouse, then press the right side of the mouse and press copy. Press the right side of the mouse again to paste where you want to paste it.

Hi Zandi, no no no, what I had to do was much more complicated than that. I was trying to send the title of a discussion over to someone and I couldn't find it, but I think I might have found the browser. I need at least another week to recover before I can ever try such a thing again. But look, I mastered smilies and I'd never used one before in my life.

Virtually everything posted by James (plus a few numbers). Fjaril too, but he's not about as much as he once was. Essentially anything that is not quite what it seems.

Oh there's nothing like the smell of rotting flesh in the morning. The cheery smile from last night's scalp as you close the door and head off to town. No sense of humour some folk. LOL.

Hi Plkefish, congratualtions for actually being the first responder to notice the question at the end and answering it without the need to teach me how to copy and paste James is funny I agree. I used to do quite a bit of not how they quite seen ones, but they all went pear shaped. Hiding the interesting saga of freshly severed heads being nailed to local walls not so long ago, some of them belonging to the neighbours even, in a topic entitled what would you choose to decorate the outside of your house with, resulted in lots of plants and ornaments, and the severed heads were regarded as unmentionable.

Maybe it takes a more warped humour to appreciate the glistening sight of severed head than an ornnamental plate,

Unfortunately, I haven;t receive yet any question enough weird to reach the point of "take one step back and read again .." As about copy/paste, is very simple: line-up the text (or whatever you want to copy) exactly in the center/middle of screen then press simultaneously "alt", "ctrl" and "del" keys. (disclaimer: the last phraze - the one above I mean - is meant to put a smile on people's faces ..)

Hi wmraul, if I had the time to waste attempting to make everything you'd said go blue I would actually be capable of putting it into this box as it's on the same page. It might take me about 3 or 4 attempts and a little cursing but I could do it. But then I'd forget to delete it afterwards. Actually looking at it though that's not the way I was told to it, I followed Stronghearts instructions on copy and paste on the same page, and they don't look anything like yours. Anyway your language is far too technical for a technophobe.

I just painstakingly wandered through this whole discussion, to find out how to upload an avatar. I saw cut, copy, paste, link highlight, control, alt, delete, english, greek, paint dry. and grass grow. Have headache, please send tablets.....please!

Hi malamar, I think others here could be in greater need of those headache tablets tomorrow than your good self so be prepared to share then around. Having spent a fraught week attempting to work out again as I'd forgotten, how to charge up the digital camera, onny to fail miserably, I have now finally obtained this evening the much awaited new avatar photo to represent 'Greek Life Style'. Tomorrow I intend to work out how to put said picture into laptop and then get it somewhere onto mylot for someone else to then put in the right place for me. Expect a very quiet day on here tomorrow as everyone runs for cover at once.

That is indeed you and not me, I never ever throw things, reserve the cursing for being stuck behind tourist drivers, and shrink into frustrated coma when technology is involved,
