I'm Going to Miss the Strawberries

Well, the farmers market season is almost over. And normally I really don't like strawberries much, but they have the best strawberries ever! I am going to be sad that in the coming months I will not get to have any strawberries. Already the raspberries, blueberries, and other such berries are gone out here.

Hi Pigglies, well the strawberries finished a couple of months ago out here so that's it until next May. I'm not a huge fan either but enjoy them with balsamic on. When they are in season I buy them from the market in town an hour away and as it's always hot when the strawberries are out the whole car smells of jam all the way back home. We have neither raspberries (my favourite) or blueberries here. I also thought we had no blackberries but my son said they were out in plenty up on a mountain he was up this Sunday, so he was able to gorge on them, but unfortuantely didn't have a bag to pick extra to bring home for me. He does say he remembers where they were thought so we may go up together at the weekend.

Hmm, I've never tried them with balsamic. Sounds pretty good. I was going to go get one last batch today, but now I feel like I'm getting sick with something. And then there's really no point in buying something tasty.

On the contrary, something tasty might make you feel better. Hope you are by the way. Strawberries with black pepper are also good.

Wow, that sounds like an interesting combination. I'm actually feeling a bit better now, knock on wood! One ear slightly hurts and the lymph node is swollen, but it doesn't seem as bad as I was fearing at first.

I love soft fruits. In Spain, the season was over in July, and I don't buy soft fruits out of season, so it's a long wait for the next lot around April/ May. In season, they're very cheap - just over 1 euro for a kilo, so we eat lots of them. Next year, I'm going to make some jam with strawberries and also apricots, then I can enjoy their lovely flavour all year round.

I don't buy fruit out of season either, since I don't really like frozen fruit. But maybe I should. I could always use it to make smoothies or something.

When I was pregnant with my baby daughter I had a craving for strawberries. I felt like that in the summer and the supply of strawberries were plentiful. Now it is the winter, the month is November, I can still buy strawberries at a higher price. The current ones have been imported from Egypt. Yesterday I bought some strawberries that cost £1.99. I bought some cherries for £3.99. Raspberries and blueberries are still for sale. It is a shame you will have to miss strawberries maybe they will be back in the spring time. Good luck.
