When I just got married to my husband last year we did a list shopping when we did our weekly shopping. However now we don’t do it. There are two reasons. One is we have very routine life so we know what we need to buy. The second reason is we did not follow our list when we saw some offers on supermarket. But I do see many people holding their list when they are shopping. I suppose they must very busy and also they can manage their life very well. I wish I can do like them, but I always easily to be attracted by new products and my husband always tries to stop me. How about you? Do you have a shopping list when you go shopping?

list - shopping list
Hello sblossom How are you doing today? I do have a shopping list that I make out every week before going shopping. I do this so that I don't forget the things that I need. You know stuff that you normallly don't have to buy every week.If I don't make a list I will forget what I really need. Here is my problem, I forget to take the list with me..LOL..

It happened to me too. Back to the time when we had our shopping list, we made it but we forgot it at home. then we came back to check the list we found we forgot something. recently I find it happens so regularly that I forget something. I can not beilive it. before I thought i had very good memory and I can remember many things in detail. now maybe I'm getting older and I found my memory is getting worse. I love your picture. It's really lovely. Best regards.

I don’t feel very well today because I called the tax staff and they made a mistake about my tax return. Now I’m still waiting for it. I have bad memory to remember good things or important thing. I always have good memory about bad things. It’s my selective memory. I will go shopping tomorrow. Now by my suggestion we have half shopping list.

yes, we always have a shopping list when we buy groceries every weekend. we buy the next week's supply and we feel that we shouldn't miss on something because it is only once a week that we do shopping. it seems a routine already but we still need the shopping list to prevent missing out something.

we always have a list when we go grocery shopping just because we plan our meals ahead of time and therefore need special ingrediants for these meals. i also find that shopping with a list is cheaper than not because you are not tempted.

I totally agree with you. I found an interesting thing connecting shopping list. People from Europe or North America prefer to have a shopping list, the reason is similar too. But to people from Asia most of them don’t have a shopping list. To them it’s very casual to shop grocery any time if they can. But to us doing weekly shopping is normal style. It’s also the change in my life after I moved to the UK from Asia. Before I did shopping any day during a week. Now I just go to shopping on Sunday morning.

Hi sblossom. Sometimes I use a list, but for the most I don't. Especially if the things I'm getting are the things that I usually get on a regular basis. However, if there are things that I hardly ever get, but need to buy, then I may use a list for that. But I won't add the usual things that I get to it as it just clutters up the list and makes it more confusing to search through. LOL When my husband does the shopping, which is rare, he needs a list. If he didn't use one he'd never know what to get! LOL Happy mylotting!

I have to have a shopping list when ever I go for shopping. Otherwise It is for sure that I miss something I planned to buy. Even it is a three item list, I do make it and note in the phone. If it is an elaborate one like grocery shopping, I make a long list of what is need in what quantity and of which company or brand. It helps in saving time and also from not sulking after coming home ha ha

Ha ha I know how it will feel like, here in stores, it will be difficut to get back to section with alread billed products. You will have to exit the store and enter again!! I make list according to the things which are placed in rows...Like first sectionis electronics, then comes cosmetics, household items, grocery, bakery on on the other side is crockery, kids section...it is well laid out and I go in that order while making list...you never miss an item then.

I'm the same as you, when we first got married we always made a list, but now I pretty much know what I need. Also, as you said, I tend to look what is on sale and buy that so the shopping is based around what is available that week to try and save money.

At my first year I was surprised with the sale at supermarket. Before I was used sales that maybe just 10% or 20% off. Here you can get buy one get one free, even more than half price off. So now when I want to buy something, if it’s not urgent I always wait for sales. Until now I always can get the sales I want. I also use loyalty cards when I shop. The rewards are not bad too. Every month we can save £10 on our food shopping. I feel I’m a clever consumer. The feeling is good.

i never have a shopping list when i go shopping... but i have quite a good self control and i hardly make impulse buying... i did make impulse buying once in a while if i really like the item... but not really that often... i try to control myself as much as i can when it comes to money as i have a limited budget... take care and have a nice day...

We try very hard to write up a list several days before we do our shopping to make sure that we're actually getting the items that we planned on getting. It saves money and it helps save an extra trip to the store because we forgot something. I think we stick to the list pretty well. Sometimes we stray but I think the items that we do stray from the list and buy are useful and not wasteful.

I wish I can do as you did. I agree it’s a good way to save money and time. My problem is I’m new to the UK. My husband always does more works on shopping than I do. I don’t think he’s a good shopper because he has no idea to save money. I always told him if I do shopping for our family we can spend less money and have higher life quality. However he doesn’t believe in me. It’s his power he doesn’t want give it up. Now I just bit by bit influence him with my shopping philosophy.

Hi sblossom, of course I take a list as it's a long drive to the shops and I don't want to forget anything. It is the best way to be organised to and plan ahead. I buy extra of things I would normally buy as well which are non perishable but on offer. Also if I have a list I don't get distracted by other things and end up buying things I don't need.

we also need to drive long distance to shop. it's the one thing I feel uncomfortable with. When I was in beijing, shopping food is very convinent. there are a few supermarkets around and you just need 5 minutes to walk there. here in the UK we need drive 20 minutes to get there and another 20 minutes back. if the traffic is not bad. driving is also a cost. shopping on Sunday makes our sunday like a work day.

i usually make a shopping list when i go shopping because it stops me from make unessecary buys, it helps me save money, i dont like to send to much and i am trying to save some money for christmas, so when i shop i just get what i need which is why i make a list before i even leave the store. i find that it just helps and stops you form getting side tracked.

You are right. shopping list does help us to save money and shop wisely. the problem is my husband and I both are not very keen on it. at begining we had a shopping list in case we forgot what would buy, later we found we always buy similar things, so without shopping list we still can remember what we should buy. gradulately we have no shopping list. now I found we spent too much money on food and we both put on weight. so I suggest my husband to have a shopping list then we can control ourselves. next week we will back to life with shopping list. we will see if it works or not. thanks for your response and happy mylotting.

my husband and i will sit down and do a shopping list as well.. but the day we go to the grocery store even though i have my list we dont even attempt to look at it.. we just do our shopping and grab what we need what we think we need and what we want.. most of the time it works in our favor.. if im not calucalting what our budget is we usually do pretty good we usally stay under the budget and get all but like a handful of things we need, plus a bunch of stuff we didnt.. sometimes its bad though we get rarely what was on the list and junk that we didnt even need. we get home and i fianally pull out the list and it will turn out we didnt need mayo we have 4 alrady in the cupboard we needed mustard or something silly like that!! LOL

I do not have patience to make a shopping list. The shops are nearby hence going again to the shops is also not a problem. Since I am in the kitchen, I know what I need.

Hi sblossom I usually do have a shopping list when I go shopping but that is just so that I don't forget the important stuff though a lot of it I do from memory. I go up and down every aisle anyway looking for inspiration and special offers as they wouldn't be on my list.
8 Oct 09
Well, I think we do alike. In my past, I used to hold shopping list while I was shopping, and apparently neglected every single offer the shop had. But in times, I started forgetting the shopping list and use my 'sense' and 'heart' to do shopping. It's not that necessary for us to hold shopping list as long as we know what to buy, and quite frankly, we sometimes buy the usual things so the use of shopping list can be neglected. =)

Seldom do I have a shopping list in my hand. I normally do some random shopping, to be exact, impulse shopping. The result is I often buy lots of things never used even once. But there is something to note, when you get down to buy something, let's say, a pair of loose pants, light grey, on a given shopping day, you might not lucky enough to find one you are thinking. As to some groceries, I can perform accoding to a list because they are always easy to find from the shelves.
