though this is more an international issue, this also concerns the philippines. many are urprised, even shocked, with the awarding of the world's most prestigious and thus most coveted peace award, the nobel peace prize. do you think obama deserved the award/prize? what about his continuing support of the war in afghanistan and pakistan againsts the talibans, thus displacing thousands of civilians. in fact his administration is sending more and more troops to try to eradicate the taliban. is obama a peacekeeper?

He earned this award. The diplomacy he has shown and universal unity he has facilitated is nothing short of miraculous in the face of the opposition he is enduring from his own countrymen. It would be interesting to see what more he could accomplish if this own country was behind him in a unified manner. Too bad so many fear him as a person and spread rumors about him and try throwing stumbling blocks in his way to prevent him from having a successful term in office. The people who do this are cutting off their nose to spite their face. It is nice that everyone can share in his accomplishments as well as his failures. Like him or not, he is an extraordinary man and it is nice that he has been recognized for his efforts. Let we forget, Pres. Obama did not start the operations against the taliban. He is just trying to make the best of a very bad situation. He is responsible for the security of his nation...enough said.

thank you for responding! let's just hope that with this prize or award, obama will really push through all those peace and stability rhetorics (i.e., cool speeches and the like) into action. methinks this peace prize will be a real great pressure on him to prove himself that he really deserved it though it's obvious that it's prematurely bestowed.

My fingers are crossed too. I hope this award will hold his feet to the fire and positive action is a by-product as well. I agree whole heartedly.

It was the Biggest surprise. Are you saying that USA should stop fighting terrorist hiding in Afghanistan? Should the Taliban not be eradicated?

thank you for your reply! but that's not my point. yeah, the U.S. should pursue its fight against terrorism, get bin laden and crush the taliban and the al qaeda. but thise obama actions are not so peace-like but literally war-like, what do you think? but then again, the classic irony of it all: if you want peace, make war.

I was taken aback when hearing the news. Nobel prizes have ruined their own reputation by doing so.

He won?that's ridiculous, because from what I know about the Nobel Peace Prize, the nominees must have an excellent reputation and achievements about the peace keeping crusade and he or she had at least many years in active humanitarian mission and contributed a lot to the world's dispossessed and in the promoting of peace, justice and solidarity. That's a shocking result because the beloved great Pope, John Paul II, who was more active and more enthusiastic in promoting world cause and justice, democracy and peace and who spent most of his time spreading the value of unity and humanity, only nominated but failed to win. Obama has not yet achieved what he is aiming for in the world and he even sent US troops to Afghanistan, where's the justice of the Nobel Peace Prize award there?I don't know what to believe anymore regarding this prestigious award.

I think he really deserved this award. Obama is all about change, but not only that, but a diversion from the laziness of past politics. Think about it, every president we've had since Clinton, thus far, has only raised our deficit, has not once touched on Health reform, and couldn't do anything about the war in the middle east; not only that, but they also haven't tried to establish/make it known a peaceful foreign policy with other Countries. Obama is doing all of this. Which is why I think he deserved this award.
