For how long you keep your food in refrigerator?

My parent-in-law come to live with us recently. I found we have quite different living habit. One of those is they tend to keep the refrigerator full with food. They tend to buy lots of vegetable, fruit, and meat at one time and keep them all in refrigerator, sometimes, it can last longer than one week... How about you? Mylotters, for how long you keep your food in refrigerator? Does your refrigerator full with food as well? Thank you for your response and have a great day.

Hi karen, We do the same, as the market is quite far from our place. We do shopping for groceries only once a week but when there are still enough supplies for the second week inside the fridge, we buy only those commodities that are not available. Good Day!

Hi Seanbryan, Thanks for your response. There are actually two supermarket near the place we live, it takes less than ten minutes by walk. It is very convenient for us to do shopping there. My parent-in-law form this habit may because the place they lived are quite cold, they avoid to go out often, so they would like to buy lots of food at one time... I myself like go to the supermarket every day for fresh vegetable, meat, fruit.

Hi karen, Well, I think things like vegetables and meat can be store in refrigerator for more than a week. But once you take it out from the refrigerator you will only can kept it fresh for mostly 1 or 2 days in refrigerators.

Hello, Kunizzul, Do you mean if we take the vegetables or meat from refrigerator, even we put it back later, it can not be kept for more than two days? Why is that? Thanks a lot for your response. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hi Karen, My mother is similar with your parent-in-law, they would like to buy the food stocked in the refrigerator that I can not stand. The food will lose the nutrition value when they stocked too long in the refrigerator. I really would like to buy the fresh one to cook even it takes much time to do it. You can politely give your suggestion to your parents-in-law for the kid's purpose. Happy mylotting.

Hello, Sasalove, That is true that the nutrition value is missing after long time stored in the refrigerator. I really feel bad thinking of my kid eating those food. I have ever tried to talk with my prent-in-law about it, they just do not understand and insist of their view... Now I search our refrigerator once several days, and I throw away those food that are stored too long time, especially those food prepared for my kid... Have a great day and happy mylotting.

being an ex chef, there are always heaps of, well everything in my fridge, but im not the only one that uses it so there are alot of old things in there every now and again, i guess its just nature! you know that your never going to eat the rest of someething that you wrap up and store in the fridge, i guess you just do it so when it finally goes off you can feel a little better throwing out old food rather than freshly cooked extras!

Hello, Fezman, Nice to meet you here. Yeah, that is true that it is better throwing out old food rather than freshly cooked extras. It is hard to make it just enough especially when you cook for a family rather than by yourself only. Thank you for your response and wish you have a great day.

Hi Saisakth, Yeah, keep food in refrigerator only for one or two days would be better if time allowed and the supermarket are not far away. I would like to buy food daily from supermarket. It is very convenient for me, it takes less than ten minutes by foot and I used to drop by when I back home from office. Thank you for your response and have a great day.

my family doesn't keep food for more than two days in fridge as my dad is completely against keeping them more than that.so left overs have to get utilised within this time or thrown away.in case of vegetables and other raw materials we might keep them a little longer but hardly over a week.my family prefers more fresh ones over stored ones

I may really need try to talk to my parent-in-law not to store food in refrigerator for longer than three to four days. As it is really not good for us. Thank you for your response and have a great day.

When the food starts to go bad in the fridge then you have to throw it out so its not a good idea to keep food for long in a fridge. Some things you can keep for a long time and others you can't. Filling up a fridge is only a good idea when you can't go grocery shopping all the time or if its inconvenient.

Hello, Bluepatch, I do agree you there. Actually there are two supermarkets near our apartment, it takes less than ten minutes by food. I used to buy vegetables there everyday. My parent-in-law have a quite different living habit from me, they may not aware of that nutrition value are missing during the long time storage... Thank you for your response and have a great day.

Hi there, I and my hubby do the food shopping once or twice a week, so whatever we needed this week we should buy it, to save diesel to keep going back to the supermarket, so our refrigerator is always full. To keep the vegestables fresh and away from mold, i put then in the special plastic bag. It last weeks or more for me,aside from the meat, it takes only 3 days depends on the expiry date, thats why i often buy frozen meat, last longer. Happy myloting.

Before my parent-in-law come, I used to buy vegetable and other food almost everyday. I went there whenever I like to take a walk. It is a kind of exercise, I like it. Have a nice day and happy mylotting to you.

I will keep food only for one or two days in refrigerator. I don't like to keep food in refrigerator for a long time. I don't feel like eating it even if it is not spoiled. My husband keeops all food in fridge. He even deep freeze meat for a week. I always make sure to heat food taken out from refrigerator before we eat. I like to prepare food in small quantities.

Hi Daliaj, That is good if it is convenient for you to get food from supermarket, and you have time to go. I myself like to buy vegetable everday, and I may keep meat for two days the longest... It is said the nutrition is missing for those food putting in refrigerator, even it is not spoiled. The longer it stored in refrigerator the more nutrition it lost...

Are we talking BIOLOGICAL EXPERIMENT here?? Most things have dates that tell when to get rid of them. As far as the fresh stuff, a week is about the limit for me. Things really start growing after that.

Yeah, we do that too. As long as the food is eatable, it will be there until we either cook and eat or it rot and will be away once we do the once-in-a-while clearance. We do the shopping twice a week, one for wet market and another for dry stuff. Since there's only a few people in the house, it will take awhile for the food stock to be deflated. It's natural if the fridge will always be full.

Hi Prinzcy, Thank you for your response. I think you must be too busy to go to supermarket often, or is the supermarket far away from your home? I would rather to go to supermarket everyday if I am allow to. Have a great day and happy mylotting.

We usually kept cooked foods at ref two days at most. Frozen foods can take more than this. I usually have frozen fries for almost two weeks now, but I see to it that its well frozen. Uncooked meat and fish are kept at a week most. Vegetables are kept not longer than three days, and they're the ones being cooked first as they get rotten faster than the others.

I guess all refrigerators are obviously full of food and my frig is also full for a whole week with food and vegetables too but leftover food is kept till morning and the next day it goes in the bin. The veges stay for more than a week and if they begin to rot they go to the bin as well too...smiles...thanx

Well, our ref is full when we have just had our grocery shopping and mostly it can last for a week or so. We are going to the grocery every week and sometimes more than a week depending upon the food that we still have in our refrigerator. For how long do we keep our food in the ref? for as long as we can consume them all, and mostly a week only.
