How to get your voice back

I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat and my voice sounded hoarse. Well, this morning I woke up again with a little bit of a sore throat and my voice is almost gone. I had to go to the doctor to get my stitches out today so I asked what could make me be so hoarse sounding and she told me it was probably allergies plus the change in the weather. So what can I do to get my voice back? Can I gargle with anything? My throat isn't very sore now but when I try to clear my throat it feels sore then. Do I have to just wait it out for it to come back? I've never been without a voice before. lol I bet my husband enjoys it. I can't stand it so it needs to hurry up and come back. :-) But I didn't know if there was something I could do to help it.

Generally voice rest is the best, and the warm soothing drinks help. Usually it's temporary very short term, but if it's allergies then potentially it could last all season. If you don't get your voice back after resting it fairly quickly go back to the doctor - if need be get a referral to an ENT Doc who will actually look at your vocal chords. I lost my voice for 6 months once. I had GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) so bad that I ulcers on my vocal chords. I didn't have any heartburn because of the medication I was taking but the damage was still being done. After 6 months of conservative treatment to try and heal the ulcers I ended up having to have surgery to get my voice back. Bottom line is if goes on very long pester the docs until they tell you why for certain and not just give you a "probably" diagnosis.

Mine wasn't that bad thank goodness. I finally got my voice back. I think it was due to allergies and the weather getting colder here. It went right from summer into winter here. lol It feels like it skipped fall. lol

Ok, maybe try this, try lemon and green tea. That is fresh squeezed lemon. Try drinking plenty of fluids, too. But when you have tried everything else...try prayer. Believe me, talk to the sickness and say 'In the name of Jesus I command you to leave! I command that you be relieved of your ailment and that God is healing you, right now, in the name of Jesus BE HEALED!' You would be surprised by the POWER you have in your words and thoughts. I am praying for you, too.

We all need something to believe in. Prayer is a good place to start and when you do, really believe...not just some half-hearted attempt and then realize that things are not panning out the way you have hoped. The thing is to never give up hope.

You just have to wait and let it heal itself. Drink lots of water, do not strain yourself. Once it comes back, do not talk as loud (or sing as high a range as you did -if you are a singer( and increase the loudness gradually. You have to have plenty of rest and make sure you wear a scarf to protect your throat. I got laryngitis after singing at the Christmas Concert a few years ago, and it took me a month to come back to normal.

Good for you. That is what did it for me. I also sing so I did not want to sing alto so I gradually increased my range back to what it was before but it took forever.

Well if the doctor knows best. I believe your doctor can give you something to help or alleviate the problem. For the meantime you avoid cold water and sweet drinks. Perhaps you can also try some ginger since ginger is very good for the voice. Most importantly, you should rest well.

I've had several people tell me to try ginger. I didn't even know you could use ginger before. I love learning new things on here.

Rest it as much as possilbe, and avoid whispering that hurts it more than talking. Honey is very good for sore throats. Lemon and tea are also really good. I am a former professional singer and I wrote an article about how to protect your vocal cords, it might help you. You can skip through some of it bt you will find some good tims in there. Here is the article. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/962562/how_singers_can_protect_their_vocal.html?cat=10

Thank you. I know honey is supposed to be good for the throat. And I've heard you can drink warm tea too and that usually will help.

when you wake some water content in your mouth get clogged which will not allow you vocal chords to vibrate. Its not a serious issue at all. Use salt with hot water and gargle it inside your mouth for five to six times. Also be careful that you don't drink the water. Even honey with water could help you retain your voice. drink plenty of water to remove any clogging in your mouth before you sleep and make sure that are infected with any bacteria it could also be one of the reason.

I have had that problem before and when I ask my doctor she gave me medicine to take. Also she told me to run a vaporize in the winter and humidifer in the summer. She told me that sometimes the air is just to dry. It did help me so I usually have one of them running.

If your into herbal medicine its good to try ginger powder. In a one cup of hot(not boiling) water put 1-2 table spoon of powder and stir it. You may drink it once a day. It helps to make voice completely back to normal. But if you have a history of gallstone don't try it. It would increase bile production.Could cause harm.

I just had this happen to me a few weeks ago. I just rested my voice because if you try to talk, you can damage your vocal cords. Thats what I was told. I also drank hot tea with honey in it. Don't drink anything cold, and use honey to sooth your throat.

Hey sweetgirl_k1,i feel sorry for you,i can understand your situation.Sore throat usually occurs due to infection or may be as you said due to allergy.Firstly you start drinking hot water not hot cooled or warm water and say goodbye to cold water. You can also try drinking ginger coffee.I think drinking hot water for few days is enough in getting back your voice but if you want to go for medication then you can try strepsils.

I think the best thing to get your voice back is to rest yourself, which means not talking too much or yelling in order not to make things worse ... or at least that's what I did when my voice went on vacation ahah (I laughed so hard when you said your husband would enjoy your being voiceless right now eheh)

I have a supber option for this.. Just go to your enemy and tell something bad about him until he start to shout against you and kindly wait for your turn and when you get your turn just start scolding him with as mush as louder upto your voice limit just do this trick with 10enemies/day and if u have same problem after 3days just to doctor and shout he will do something favour for us..
