As Students, What should They Do to Deal with the Relationship with Teachers?

As we all know, the relationship between students and teachers is very important, expecially for the students. Usually, students spend approximately 5 to 7 hours a day with a teacher for almost 9 or 10 months. So, for students, to get along with their teachers is really useful to lower pressure and pay more attention to their study. If a student has a bad relationship with his/her teachers, they may have no energy on their study. These are my questions: If you are a student, what should you do to get along with your teachers? Have you paid lots of attention to the relationship with your teachers?

Here in the Philippines we treat our teachers as our 2nd parents. Because just like what you've said, we spent about almost our whole day in the school and we see them like 5 times a week. In our case, nursing students, we treat as Clinical instructors as our friends but we have rules that we must limit our relationship to them.

I have not been a student for some time now because the last lot of studying I did was from home so it wasn’t a classroom situation. The important thing, I think is to make sure that the student understands the teacher and is not afraid to ask questions. Teaching is more than a job, I think, it takes special people to be good teachers and many of us have at least one teacher that they have not forgotten. Mine was when I lived in Italy. I had the same teacher from year two to year five and by the time I left to come to Australia she knew me better than my mother did! She was someone who loved to teach and it showed!

I always found agreeing with the teachers helped a lot, treat them with respect and it should work well.Listen to what they say and ask questions if you don't understand what the lessons mean.

I think the best way of dealing with good and positive relationship with teachers is for a student to do their part in doing theri assignments and research work, being active in school, participating in some of the extra curricular activities, have the initiative to learn more, maximize any opportunity to learn and share, gets along well with classmates and teachers, dependable and trustworthy. Maintaining a good student-teacher relationship is quite inspiring so as a student do your thing and i am sure the teacher will be sensitive enought to recogniZe that and even gives you award for any effort and good deed/s.

Well, I was a very shy student and so i never used to interact with any teacher. Yeah that's pretty bad, as you realize that the teacher doesn't even know your name in the end! I suggest you interact with the teacher. You answer any questions raised her him/her and you also ask her questions. After the class, may b you can go and talk to her if you find something difficult. May b you can help her out in distributing the papers or cleaning the board and so on? Well i have seen some teachers interacting with the bright students in the class and that's sure partiality.

Having been a student for MANY years before becoming a teacher, I can say I have had a few good teachers and some very bad ones. There is not much a student can do with a bad teacher except your best and then move one. The system is not perfect. I agree that the best thing to do is to focus 100% on the studies. Nothing else matters very much in the long run, and although the teacher may not like a particular student, if that student does his or her best, there will usually at least be a grudging respect. It does not serve any purpose to intentionally antagonize teachers because they have the power. Let us hope they do not abuse it.

I think respect is key, since the teachers have more sway than the students. Following the rules, unless they violated my moral code. If a teacher was truly wicked, I would tell the proper "higher-ups" rather than lashing out on my own. A lot depends on the age of the student, too...vast difference between the position of a student as a child in grade school and an adult in college! Karen

Throughout high school and college I always tried to maintain a good relationship with my teachers. Treating them with respect and politeness goes a long way. But I would say that asking for help and listening to their answers would have to be the most important things for a student. Show an interest in the subject material, show that you're thinking about it, ask questions about everything you don't understand, if not in class then after. Teachers always appreciate students who sincerely want to learn. (Though I did have one professor in college that despised students who asked questions... he was definitely the exception. :P) It is also good to let them know when you have major personal problems, like money or homelife, because then they understand if the quality of your work is slipping. Teachers are just people, and when they know you on an individual level, they're more likely to be compassionate and cooperative.

hi, i think the most important thing to student is study. and he should be in good relation with his teacher, but do not need pay much attention to it. there is a bad society phonomenum that parents always take too much attention to codle teachers for their kids, but if i was a teacher, i would like the one who studies well in my class.

Hello getbrowser, i think student should have friendly relation ship with teachers. Because it will help in internal marks. During my college days , frankly i doesn't pay attention with teachers. What i thought is "they are nothing". And finally i got reflected in internal marks. When i came out , i realized the value of mark. so according to me atleast for an internal mark, the students should pay attention to teachers and they should be friendly with them.

Yes, relationship between students and teachers are very important. As a student it is your responsibility to abide to certain disciplines in school. When asked to do a certain task as a student it is your responsibility to finish the task in a timely manner. It takes only respect and being accountable to what is required from you can really help develop relationships among teachers and students. It is also your responsibility to ask questions if some issues have needs to be clarified.

yes, a teacher student relationship is important as if the relation is good then the knowledge part will be strenthen and one will get more attention in the class than that of the others. I remember my teacher hated me and I felt bad due to this. what else I can do to make her happy except for studies which I never liked.

Well at the moment I am a student who is studying to become a teacher so this topic interests me. I do know that a good relationship between student and teacher is absolutely essential. A teacher needs to know all about their student so as to learn how to better teach them. Not all students learn in the same ways. Also, students need to be comfortable enough with their teachers to be able to ask them for help or to open up about issues that are bothering them at home or in the playground, for example bullying or abuse. at a young age, a child does not really understand the worth of developing a good relationship with their teacher but as they get older (upper primary grades) they can basically be a good listener in class, cooperate with their teacher, respect their teacher and be open. A teacher will do everything in their power to help a student who is struggling. I think it is the teacher's responsibility to foster strong relationships with their students. Even if the student seems like a disrespectful brat, it is important that they know their teacher is someone they can go to for support.

Hello. I agree with you. Good teacher-student relationship is very important in the learning process. A good teacher must know his students well before starting with the class, which means knowing the students' background, weaknesses and strength. In that case, he'll be able to do what's best for a particular student. Students will appreciate this kind of teacher. The tendency is that they will pay attention to lectures and activities and will be inspired to study more. "He who has never learned to obey cannot be a good commander." - Aristotle

getbrowser hi It has been a long time since I was a student but I always made it a point to listen closely and if I did not really understand something to ask for help from my teachers. this showed them that I was willing to work hard with them to' make a success of my college years. It did pay off with very 'good grades too.
