What do you think about the current state of hip hop, or music in general?

To me everything is just bogus. Kanye West lost his damn mind, autotune is everywhere, and artists that speak from the soul such as Common, Talib Kwali and etc get no recognition. What do you guys think?

Hip-Hop has almost never really set a good example for soul-gripping messages, if you ask me. I think the depressing songs are getting too widespread, though... That's probably why Owl City is so popular (: It's a *happy* band.

I think that it is all too common that the most commercially successful acts of any music genre are those that appeal to the lowest common denominator or are what the money men can make the most profit out of - be it very safe or very controversial. Check what labels the most popular bands or acts are on and they are often subsidiaries of much bigger labels. It is certainly the same in rock at the moment where everything sounds like Nickleback or various interchangable "emo" bands. There's a lot of good stuff around that isn't mainstream that gets ignored - just like in hip hop!

Hip hop will always be alive i dont think its really the state of music as much as its the A&Rs and radio stations they just want to reach the easy influenced masses those who think a song is good because of auto tune. but real hip hop can be found just not for free subscribe to sirus and u will find the good stations lol but other than that unless ur looking online for underground chances are you wont find much. theres so much behind all this i believe its just one big conspiracy to make us stupid and fall in line so they hide the good stuff from the public they hide the truth in the news ts all propaganda we live in a society where the president is no longer the head of the nation the news the media the press is it me or am i the only one who see's this? the world is run by money and nothing else and u dont have a voice unless you have the green.

I agree that Kanye has lost his mind. Hip-Hop has not been turning out impacting songs lately. A lot of the songs have one line that is repeated constantly through the entire song. I am glad that Maxwell came back with a new cd. He is someone I always enjoy listening to. Also, it seems that everything that is coming out lately has Lil' Wayne in it. Nothing against him, but there are other people out there to collaborate with.
