Does reading makes you fall asleep?

I've a room mate before and often times when she find it hard to sleep she read a book then after few minutes she immediately fall asleep. And I'm completely the opposite, every time I read a good book, I find it hard to sleep and tend to keep on reading 'til my eyes hurts. How about you, does reading makes you fall asleep?

Depends on the book. A griping novel will keep me awake and reading all night. I read all 3 of the Lord of the Rings books in 4 days, I just couldn't stop reading it! But some study books put me to sleep in seconds, give me a math book and I am out of it!!!!

Me, as well find it hard to keep my mind and attention on any numerical books. But when it comes to any loves story books I can read 'til my eyes hurts. Well the Lord of the rings was such a great book. I'm more into twilight. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Unfortunately reading has always made me sleepy. I don't know why and it especially does if I try and read before going to sleep. Even reading on the airplane in the morning makes me sleepy. I wonder why this happens to some people and not to others. My husband can read for hours and no effect. One of the differences we have is the speed we read at. He is a very fast reader where I am a slow reader and it is just one theory I have come up with why MAYBE I get sleepy while reading.

Yeah, it could be that reason as why other people easily fall asleep while reading. For me it's because the book you're reading is not interesting, it doesn't caught your attention, or you don't enjoy reading a book. Well for whatever reason, reading a good book always bring us knowledge. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Yeah, I tend to get really sleepy when I read books. I guess that's because nothing is really a happening in the book for me to get interested in. It's kinda like all the talking parts in an action-packed movie. It would have to be really, really interesting for me not to fall asleep, like some fighting going on or something unexpected happened in the story and leaves you hanging till the next chapter (or the next book in some cases).

Yeah, when the book is really boring we can't help not to fall asleep. Me either sometimes when I read a low quality and content of book. Though I'm not really into fighting, I'm more into revelations and twisting of events, that makes me awake. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

I read novels when I was still single. It sometimes grew so interesting and thrilling that I had stayed for longer hours just to read on. But, as I usually laid down when I read books, my eyes got tired so easily. I know it is not good to read while lying down. But one of my reasons for lying down while reading was that I didn't need to go and find my bed when sleep knocked me off, lol.

I'm like you. Every time I read a good book, I couldn't sleep 'til I finished it. Sometimes, I drink few cups of coffee to make my eyes wide awake. But reading books rarely makes me fall asleep. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Yes, I feel sleepy because my eyes get so tired quickly. And especially, if I read lying down. But like you, when the story is interesting, I couldn't stop reading. I can finish a 500-page novel in one sitting.. ^^

It does depend on some circumstances. If i will rad a book that i am tired and i can't sleep i would grab one and read until i fall asleep. but if my system is in perfect condition to finish a book i couldn't sleep if i will not finish the book, especially if that book is quite interesting.

I understand your point. It entirely depends on the personality. Some people read books when they want to sleep. Some read when they feel sleepy. But when you are reading something very interesting, it's hard to get sleep!

Yes, only when I am reading my school books. I don't know why it makes me sleep. It's like my cure to insomnia. But when I am reading novels, fiction, adventure, romance books, I don't get sleepy. It's only the academic books.

Yeah, I have had such a situation too. From where I stand, reading is becoming one of the things I do to make me feel sleepy. Sometimes, when I find it hard to sleep and then, I will read some books to make my eyes tired. Obviously, I will fall asleepquickly. In fact, every time, when I go to the library to borrow some books, I will feel tired because there are full of all kings of books. In total, I have spent much time on the Internet and lose interests in reading books gradually. Happy myLotting!
