That being said-- I am wondering, has anyone near you (family, friend, co-worker) recently sucessfully STOPPED smoking?

It's a nasty habit. I agree. So I wouldn't advise anyone to go for it or do it for once just for enjoyment. But having said that I have been smoking for ten years now and I'll continue to do so. I'm not in a mood to quit, right now.

You really have to be in the right place to quit. I hope you are in that place soon.

I can't swear to this, but I think my sister has stopped smoking. She's not close to me, but I do believe she's stopped smoking. The last time I saw her was when we went to borrow a game from her, and we didn't stay long. The last time before that was at our wedding, I think she went outside with the smokers but didn't smoke. It is a nasty habit, one I am glad I never got into.

You are lucky! I smoked as a social thing. Never for very long and always stopped when not out.

hypnotized? I don't know... now weirder dreams from me? Yes I sure enough have had worse or weirder dreams. There was a recurring dream I had of myself and my sister or sometimes my brother out in a neighborhood and trying to find my grandparents, there was one house we kept going to that looked similar but backwards!

Well true, people dont understand, initially starts as fun or out of stress and later they addict and finally they make the affectioned ones alone. My uncle stopped and he leads a new life now.

Maybe they will when their doctor tells them they have COPD or worse. When you are young you think you are invincible.

Yes it is a nasty habit and a very very powerful one. It ranks right up there with heroin. I smoke and from time to time, I struggle to quit. It is really really hard. Still, I have seen people who do succeed in quitting. Most recently quite a few have been prescribed chantix and I've been told that really works in helping. The ones I really admire are the ones that quit cold turkey. Me...I've tried so many different methods and nothing so far as worked long term. Someday.....maybe?

I do believe there is a method for everyone. Just keep looking. I admire the ones that can do it cold turkey also. I think when you are ready that is the easiest route to take.

Yes both my Dad and my boyfriend. My Dad did it cold turkey and succeeded. My boyfriend did it with acuputure and also succeeded. It was hard maybe the first two weeks for both of them but they managed to get thru it. Now they both can't stand the smell of smoke. My boyfriend now understands why I didn't want to kiss him, due to the smell.

I am glad it worked for both of them. I think it is different for each person. How they go about it and what worked for them I mean.

I havent smoked for just over a month now and its the best thing that ive ever done! Im so glad as there was absolutely no beneficial side to smoking at all but yet i carried on, my family smokes but they try not to smoke around me but to be honest i hate the smell of it at the moment so it doesnt bring on any cravings, quite the opposite. The best thing ive noticed is that things seem to taste a bit better, now someone said to me this would happen but i didnt realise to what extreme i would notice! Im just so glad i got the support that is so easily got and offered everywhere as it is wonderful being smoke free!

Hi friend, Smoking is very bad for health and for the country as well.It increases the pollution and it tares the ozone layer in the atmosphere. When a person smokes we cannot stand nearby that person.I dunno what is there in smoking and what they will get from smoking?
