Oh my. I had the same situation 2 weeks ago, and the only thing left for me to do was visit the doctor. He prescribed for me an antibiotic and an antihistamine as my cold might have been an allergy too. As for the sore throat, he prescribed an oral rinse for me, one that has antibacterial properties, and I swear, it felt better after I finished the bottle (I had to bear the bitterness of the oral rinse though, bad after taste!!! Tastes like mint mouthwash, but after spitting it out, UGH) But during times when I can't visit the doctor right away, I try gargling warm water with salt. If it doesn't work, I add in a tablespoon or two of native vinegar into the warm salt water. Gargle only, not swallow. You'll also have to increase your water intake, and stock up on vitamin C. I also try to take in some chicken soup as to liquefy the phlegm.

Oops, I forgot to mention it earlier. My voice teacher once recommended me to make ginger as my candy when my throat feels sore. Simply peel some ginger, cut it into small candy-sized pieces, wash them, then suck on it like it's candy. It might sound silly, but there's no harm in trying. It worked on me

Hi Shia. I mix a teaspoon into a warm glass of water and gargle every few hours for a sore throat. Or a bit of lemon juice and honey mixed and swallowed can also help. I hope you feel better soon. Karen

Me and my boyfriend have had a sore throat for maybe a week now, and i've been drinking maybe 4 cups of black tea and honey everyday and eating peanut butter sandwiches! lol it seems funny but it's been working, i haven't bought any medicine or used any lozenges or anything like that. make sure you keep something on your feet if you have titled or wood floors because if your feet stay cold that makes more mucus build up (somehow) so my grandma says :) but good luck on your sore throat, hope you feel better soon! :) god bless!

Hor Yan Ho is a herbal concoction manufactured in Ipoh, Perak. It comes in a satchel form. You have to infuse one satchel of it with hot water and addition of 2 or 3 sour plums for taste. Then drink it lukewarm and have plenty of rest or sleep. Try it to know its effectiveness. Eh, Hor Yan Ho should pay me for promoting.

Drinking salt water? Don't drink salt water get some really warm salt water and gurgle it, then spit it out. Also don't drink milk or orange juice, these make more phlegm. Be sure first of to spit out as much as you can, so really try to clear your throat. Maybe eat something hot a like a pepper to really open up your sinus's One thing I like is taking some honey, and vinegar, and mixing it in water, warming it a lil in the microwave, you want more honey than vinegar, also if you have some apple cider on hand try mixing some that in there to give it better taste, anyways this works wonders.

I agree with the no to orange juice part. Especially the fresh ones and the ones with pulp. It makes your already sore throat itchier than it already is.

Hi Shia, I just refrain from taking anything sweet. Before when tea is still good for me i used to drink hot tea with fresh lemon. Now i drink lots of fresh lemon or orange juice and i just refrain from talking and give me self more rest and time to sleep.

Hi msfrancisco, Having enough rest is the most important when we fall sick. It helps to build back our body energy and make our sickness recover faster. Drinking plenty of water also important.

Along with the grated ginger in hot water, the easiest way to quick releif from sore throat is to gargle with salt and hot water. Dissolve about 7-8 gms of sea salt in 100 gms of hot water, and gargle deep inside the throat with this. Be careful that the water is not too hot to cause burns, but it should definitely be more than just warm.

Hi, Never use hot water to drink..it will make the throat feel so painful. For me, I am using thermal hot water to soak ginger, then left it for 5 mins, once it gets warm, then I will drink up the ginger water.

This is something that always work for me. My mom always has me get this and works out fine for me when I am having a sore throat or a bad cough. I actually had my husband do this the other day and it helped him with his cough in a day. All you need is a cough drop piece and a lemon. Cut the lemon at the top and stick in your cough drop and suck on that lemon. The lemon juice and the cough drop should help you soothe your throat. Its good to know that you have gotten over your flu, and hopefully you feel better.

What really works for me is a teaspoon of salt dissolved in a glass of hot water. When it is tolerable to gargle the mixture, I gargle it every now and then. It also helps a lot to drink plain water once in a while. This is so when you feel like coughing. I also peel a small piece of ginger and take it inside the mouth as candy (of course, it does not dissolve there) and it helps. Rest is of utmost importance. I have also tried using mouthwash solutions as betadine or listerine for gargling. If nothing still works for you, I advise that you see your doctor.

Well, I'm not really in herbal medicines because I'm not used to mixing and boiling things. If I have sore throat I'll just buy lozenges like strepsils which are antibacterial and good for sore throats. That's only my opinion. Hope you get better soon. Happy mylotting!

Hello, shaia. when medicine is not available i usually prepare warm water with a pinch of salt to gargle and if the symptoms persist I consult a doctoctor. Sore throat may be dangerous if not treated. Two thing may happened if untreated either the bacteria(streptococcus) may go up to the brain or go down the heart(will lead to Rheumatic fever and worst rheumatic heart disease and these are serious complication)and other complication in organs.

I can say I have gone thru the worst sore throats ever, since that is my only sickness once or twice a year. Yes you are correct that drinking ginger in hot water and sipping on it is one of the best remedies for a sore throat. Here are some that will definitely help you. Try looking for the vitamin C 'Fern C' for it works marvolously. What you do if you have it around or if you can purchase some is to take it out from the capsule and dunk it into some water or juice then gulp it in. Make sure it passes your tonsils and throat and it will definitely help your throat from being sore. It helps me a lot so I am very sure it will help you also. Just a reminder though you can put more than 1 so you can put like 2 to 3 in one glass to make it heal faster. Avoid staying inside airconditioned rooms. For some reason that makes it worse.
