Which do you prefer?

Nowadays, many people opt to buy e-books than to buy a 'real' book... Because of our busy schedules we no longer have the time to seat down and read a good book while having a cup of coffee/tea... Some people on the other hand, opt to use e-books in order for them to hear the story that they long to read... For you, which do you prefer? An e-book or the 'real' book(hard copy)? I look forward to your comments/opinions, guys/gals ;) Happy myLotting! :p

I prefferr paperback books, hardback doesn't last long enough, but anyway I enjoy reading, and I don't mind laying down just before bed for a good read, but with my eyes It's getting harder and harder to read so I have been leaning towards Audio books, I like them mostly because I can multi task and my eyes don't end up hurting after trying to read. Anyways it depends on how you think of it, e books help the environment while as a previous poster said it takes away jobs, so it's at a butt, but what's good is there are people who read no matter what format the book is in.

I still prefer the real thing!b I enjoy both hardcover and paperback books. E books are o.k. if you want something quick, but those printed pages just aren't the same as a quality leather bound book.

hello cm! how are you? its been a long time since i last saw you here... anyway, on my part... i guess i still like the real books! yup! although ebooks are more convenient, but still i prefer to have the real copy...coz i like seeing books in our house and with my husband's line of work, he needs those hard copies of books and at least those books, with proper care can last for long...and its always readily available...unlike e books...you can't use them without electricity! haha and what if your computer went off? hehe so for me, hard copies are always better... have a nice day friend!

hehehe hi, cykera! yes, it has been a loooooooong looooooooong time... haha! i've been very busy working... hehe how about you? how are you doing? i hope you're in good condition... hehe going back to e-books/audio books vs. hard copies... you have a point, you can pass your book onto someone and it can also be kept for a long period of time; plus, you'll be able to let the author of the book to sign on it if you want heheheheh:p

For me, I will opt for a hard copy of a book as long as that is an option. I have a hard enough time being in front of the computer for to long while staring at electronic screens, and I think that if I was to convert my reading habits, it would cut down on the enjoyment that I get out of reading. I also like the routine of reading a hard copy book, I like the routine of turning the pages and even putting a bookmark in it when I get done reading for that period.

I definitely prefer a real book to an e-book E-books are nice every once in a while, I supposed. But nothing compares to curling up on the couch with a good (real) book and wasting an entire day reading. When my husband and I buy our house, I plan to have a library, so the more real books the better! I love even the feel and smell of books. I go to garage sales and buy any old books I find, just to have them and think about the history behind them. I love everything about books, and no way will an e-book ever compare to a real book in your hands, at least in my opinion.

I am the type of person who goes for the hard copy. I like to feel the book in my hands and hold the book. I like the way a book smells when you first get it, like how some people like that new car smell, i like the new book smell. I like turning pages instead of scrolling on a screen. I make time to read a good book.

I personally dont care for ebooks though I do have some BUT the ones I do have I've printed off and put into a folder so I can read them in comfort wherever rather than having to sit at my desk and read it off the computer...Same with audio books...I dont care for those either..

yep... i understand how you feel about e-books/audio books... if i were to choose, i would choose hard copies, i have problems listening to audio books.. i can't seem to follow the story hehe :p and it's boring... reading a book, can actually help you practice your eye movement, comprehension and if you do read aloud--it will help you loosen your tongue; especially if English is not your 'native tongue'

I am more apt to listen to a book than to read it. I did data entry for a number of years and listened to lots of books I wouldn't have had time to read otherwise. I still listen to books in the car, books I wouldn't have read. I would love for more books to be available on audio, but since they aren't I have to read them. Between doing mylot of course....

I prefer the real book, even though I will read some e-book on internet. When I have read a good e-book,I will buy the real book in the book shop for collection.

I use a computer for emailing, searching for information, and writing my blog and squidoo web pages, but I don't want to read for pleasure on a computer screen. I love reading a book (usually paperback)and sitting in a lawn chair, or stretched out on my bed or couch. I read every day and have boxes of books to choose from. I go to thrift shops and buy older books for a cheap price. Once in a while I will go to a book store and buy newly published books from current authors. I especially like mysteries and not too many mysteries end up in thrift shops. I also sell books online, so after I read my books I sell them if it seems like I can make a little money. www.squidoo.com/sellbooksonline . If not, I donate them back to the thrift shop. The second reason I like regular books over using a computer is to reduce eye strain. Using a computer all day is not healthy for our eyes. Even though reading a book for a long time can also cause eye strain, it doesn't seem to bother me. I'm not against e-books. Often, that's the only way you can find a copy of a certain title or be able to afford it. But it's not for me.

i agree with you... spending too much time facing a computer can contribute to eye irritation/strain. i like reading books that are in hard copies... it's like having a collection too :) thank you for responding :)

I myself like the hardcopy. I like to hold it and if I want to take it with me in the car or somewhere else, it cannot be done with a e-book. In the summer my husband and I go fishing sometimes and I like to take my books. I can go through 3-5 books on the weekend and a e-book would not be possible for me to take.

I have to say, I do prefer to read an actual book over and e-book. There's something wonderful about the feel of pages between fingers and the smell of new (and old!) books. There's something personal and peaceful about actual books.

Hey cmnavarro! I would most definitely prefer to buy a "real" book no matter what the cost! I like to lie in bed with my "real" book in hand and read it until I feel I am sleepy enough to put it down! I love the feeling of being able to "take" my book wherever I feel like! I have a PC and I don't want anymore "gadgets" in my life! I still love the feeling of having a "real" book to read wherever and whenvever I feel like it! I still buy books on the web! I love to collect books because it's still something that we can do and I refuse to read an ebook! I spend enough time on the computer as it is! I don't even want a laptop! Once I get into my bed it's bad enough that I have my new Flat Screen LCD TV! That's where I draw the line! At least let me have my "real" book to read to put me to sleep!

I prefer a book. I've never read an e-book, but I don't think I'd like it. I can't sit at the computer and be comfortable for long periods at a time. With a real book you can read it anywhere and get comfy. One time I had a book on tape and I guess that's okay for someone who is very busy. You could listen to it in the car or while your doing something else. I guess I'm just old fashioned.

I love reading real books more than e-books. You can read the real book whenever you wish to. One can lie down and read, listen to some soothing music and read, etc. Above all, I love the smell of the books.

Hi cmnavarro, I usually get my reading material from our local library which has a very extensive selection. However, I have also recently started using an on-line site to read books on.One of my favourite authors of years ago was Rider Haggard. I doubt if his books are still in print now but I can read them on-line and am thoroughly enjoying doing so.

Nothing beats the convenience and ease of reading a 'real' book (hard copy). But hard copies of books tend to be more expensive than their vitual counterparts (soft copies or ebooks/audiobooks). So it depends really on your preference. If you opt to be economical, then an ebook and audiobook is for you. But if you don't like to be in front of a PC, or you don't want to strain your eyes and ears, then the pricey hard copy would be more suitable for you.
